Excuse me, I have two more questions for you.
    1. What do you whitewash at the end? Looks like black paint to me.
    2. When do you collect the grafting material and how do you store it?

thank you. I believe these vines were grafted in April but I have grafted thousands of acres of Vineyard in the Central coastal region of CA anytime from the first of February until the end of May and have seen no difference in the results. with the technique we use, we consistently get in the high 90s (percentage of take) of course weather plays a major role in the success rate of "any" grafting. My grafter friends who live and work in CA tend to graft grapes last so...late in their season. But I think that has more to do with the fact that their other grafting "MUST" be done early rather than timing for grapes. Grapes are much more forgiving than stone fruit etc..which "has" to be done early in the window.

I just got the idea to grow rootstock and graft fruit miracle trees for extra cash in the future. we graft Cherries in late winter.. before the trees break dormancy. apples and pears in early spring. for us thats march and april. grapes are grafted in late spring.. again for us, that is late april and early may. but the scion wood must be kept fully dormant. collected in winter before there is any bud swell. then kept in cold storage until its time to graft.
