  • These flowers are so necessary for monarch butterflies as they migrate each year. They reseed easily, are gorgeous perennials and basically take care of themselves. They are a great addition to your backyard garden and will draw in droves of butterflies every fall! Don't wait until the butterflies are on the move, plant them now!

I never think to plant them until it's too late. Thanks for the heads up!

Same! I'm getting ahead of the game this year. I'm hoping the seeds I plant germinate well, but I'll have these for back ups in case I have problems.

Does yours die back in the winter? I've read where the tropical milkweed dies back for a lot of people and they have to replant it year after year. I want to plant it close enough to see the butterflies, but not so close that I'm in a milkweed jungle. Lol

Thank you for the reminder to start looking for milkweed and I love that live oak behind you!

Aren’t they beautiful! When we first walked onto this property I felt like I was standing on a movie set. It’s one of my favorite places to be. 💛
Do you have a favorite milkweed that you like to grow?

I have a few orange milkweed plants tucked in the edge of the woods that have been here for years. I guess they are native and I bought some tropical milkweed last year that bit the dust. Hurricane Laura did a number one most of our hardwood and a lot of the big pines on our land, so I’m gonna be honest…I’m jealous of that beautiful oak! 😉

@@oldchick67 I’m so sorry to hear about your trees. I know Laura devastated so many families. This one is a tropical milkweed. I haven’t seen anything else available yet. The milkweed I started from seed just says “native milkweed” on a pack I got at a seed swap. I’m hoping it does well. I’m looking for aquatic milkweed and swamp milkweed. They just sound like they belong here. 🤣🤣

Harmon's Greenhouse & Nursery in Crowley! Maybe call a nursery near you and see if they have any ready before making a drive. I went for strawberries and was pleasantly surprised!
