NoGood Boyo, the groundbreaking trash-trad group dubbed the Sex Pistols of the 21st Century, and Wales' answer to Rage Against the Machine, made a resounding statement with the debut performance of their electrifying new track, ‘Not My King.’ Taking the world-famous city of Wrexham by storm, the outspoken band delivered a musical manifesto that challenges the status quo.
NoGood Boyo is a force to be reckoned with, blending the influences of Enter Shikari, The Prodigy, and Meredydd Evans to create a sound unlike anything else. Their unique fusion of rap, punk, numetal, and EDM, infused with traditional instruments, captivated the audience who were held in the palm of their hand throughout their performance. The song presents a sobering dose of reality, shedding light on the societal disparities with thought-provoking lyrics such as, "Charlie spends a bomb putting crowns on his head, whilst the kids get fed from the food bank instead."
Lead singer Beth, unafraid to voice her convictions, explained, "We're not trying to court controversy; we're simply stating facts. The number of food banks outweighs McDonald's branches by almost two to one. It's f***ing criminal. If those who support the monarchy get to voice their opinions, why should we remain silent? This isn't about being anti-monarchy or anti-Tory; it's about being pro-equality and pro-human rights. If we're anti anything, we’re anti-bulls**t, and everyone has a right to know why. The longer we stay silent, the longer this circus continues." The inspiration behind ‘Not My King’ draws from the likes of the Manic Street Preachers, The Sex Pistols, and the organisation Republic, and NoGood Boyo encourages supporters to raise their voices and make themselves heard.
NoGood Boyo's stage presence is equally as distinctive as their music. Dressed in an ensemble reminiscent of a steampunk Welsh Nana, the band seamlessly blends traditional Welsh language songs with the vibrant sounds of '90s rave and nu-metal. Their attire, featuring boiler suits, sunglasses, and traditional Welsh hats, pays homage to their heritage while embracing their unapologetic recklessness. With their latest single, NoGood Boyo solidifies their position as a driving force in the Welsh music industry, destined to conquer new territories.
Embracing the label of "trash-trad" bestowed upon them by traditionalists and proudly incorporating mashed-up Welsh music into their 21st Century sound, NoGood Boyo fearlessly challenges expectations.
Their forthcoming single, "Not My King," is scheduled for release on June 17th, coinciding with King Charles' official birthday celebration. As they boldly declare, "Go loud, or go home boyos."
