Even in physical domain human diversity and dexterity is unmatched ! True animals can run faster and lift heavier than humans but none of them are are dexterous like humans and none can enhance their physical abilities with tools like humans. It’s still too early to predict AGI based on recent success of transformer models but it’s easy to get carried away.
Interesting viewpoint. Humans cannot climb mountains like mountain goats do. Or tip toe around objects as cats do. Or climb trees as monkeys do. The dexterity you are referencing is likely of the opposable thumb variety. This is not an unsolvable problem in a machine. There has been a massive change in the opinions of AI researchers themselves - not just lay people - with regards to how quickly we might now get to AGI. It is hard to ignore the progress...
