I like how this song was starting off with Cobra sort of taking some of the spotlight in the first part and then you hear the G.I Joe theme a few minutes its like "Fuck you Cobra we arrived" YO JOE!!!!!
2:16 "G.I. Joe is the codename for America's daring highly trained special mission force. It's purpose: To defend human freedom against COBRA, a ruthless terrorist organization determined to rule the world."
I just got done helping my dad move out of our old house and I found a whole chest of all the VHS tapes and this dvd and most importantly all the toys he had as a kid that were passed to me I had never been so happy this series is truly one of the greatest to ever exist
I know I'm really nerdy for it, but this song still gets me pumped up every time I hear it. I suddenly remember why I bought the toys and pretended I was a GI Joe...
The tv versions of GiJoe's theme some were PERFECTION. Yet somehow they topped it for the movie. Damn. It is so earnest and creative. What a performance. Does anyone do this anymore?
The very concept of the movie/TV theme is going away and I still say it's one of the things that's actually hurting said industry. Not the "woke", not "forced diversity"... Far more simple. Seriously, a theme helped give a show its very identity! Helped set the pace and feel and was like a primer for the viewer. I swear, I could do a full essay on what a theme brings in and of itself!
Duke was supposed to die in this movie but when Optimus Prime died in transformers the movie it was decided that duke was in a coma instead then recovered.

@KrazyKupo You make a very astute observation in a very elegant understated way. True. People have become so mundane and un-magical that investing whole heartedly in a fantasy to make it come to life is beyond most "artists" In the 80's NO ONE was scared to go hard and make it happen. The passion the performers have performing this theme with song really has no "modern" precedent. Shameless fearless unapologetic make-believe. AWESOME.
I remember dreaming this song in the background, too. The problem was I was a Cobra Commander who had unknowing became a sane normal person, which meant he was no long the commander, but a guy having a nightmare based on bad memories.
there was some old rock /metal band with song (be like gi joe ) , someting about this tv series but i cant find it .Thi music was fast ang great and cant find it :(
Weeeell, I actually found the Cobra-La origin of Cobra Commander and Cobra-La itself to be... Well, it didn't just fit the military fiction world of the 80's G.I. Joe. It's like it was just slapped on there.
@@foldabotZ It was bizarre as hell to say the least. I mean, Serpentor was weird enough but then they came up with Cobra-La and that was even stranger. So glad Larry Hama did not include it in the Marvel comics series he did back in the day.
I didn't grow up with this version of G.I. Joe but instead I grew up on the classic G.I. Joes (the 1990s classic 1/6th scale figures), though I do love G.I. Joe but I prefer the more military classic line than the action adventure kind.
80s GI Joe movie casting if it would have come out that decade. Bruce Willis - Duke Carl Weathers - Heavy Duty Linda Hamilton - Scarlet Arnold Schwarzenegger - Destro Bruce Lee - Storm Shadow
Between G.I. Joe the Move and The Transformers the Movie, I liked the Transformers movie better. Mostly because of Cobra-La in G.I. Joe. The intro sequence with this song, I liked!
The Transformers film is indeed better but both are still entertaining and miles better than their live action adaptations so far sans Bumblebee. That film was pretty good for the most part.
I theorize it's because nobody in the project really has a clear idea or direction with what they want to do, just the desire to make money. So they look at all the trends in action movies and film making in general and tried to make something they felt would capitalize on all that. Trying to pitch a movie that would be like a live action version of cartoon/action figures fighting grand scale battles with lasers and a tongue and cheek sense of humor would never fly with execs.
I always loved that call and response, "Cobraaaaaaa" "COBRAA!!!"
The person saying that is Chris Latta the voice actor for Cobra Commander in his actual speaking voice and he's singing background vocals
It's like he got lost and is calling for them in the dark.
