    Great review, very useful to now how you feel about those bags after having used them for months or years, respectively - thanks!

    Great review. When I got my AX5, I made sure to really break in the plastic side inserts. Filled the bag to capacity, let it sit for a day or two, filled with another disc, repeat.
    At this point I can comfortably carry 20 discs in the main compartment - that's 12 drivers, 4 mids and 4 putters. So I imagine 22 drivers would be no issue. I prefer carrying 18 discs in there, and at that point I can easily fit my fist in between the discs.
    Completely agree on the high "lip", though. Should have been a little lower, to make it easier to get discs out.

    Been waiting for a review on some bags. I’ve been rocking the Prodigy BP-1 v3 for the last 3 seasons, and I’ve been looking to freshen it up n get something new. My buddy has a grip like you showed here and it’s def made well, but very annoying to get discs in and out of the bag. Glad to see a direct comparison between the two. The broken zipper on the squatch hella sucks, like real hard, but that pocket stays open for me usually. The straps not being sown in is a game changer I think.
    Blah blah blah aight man thanks for the vid. I wanna see an update eventually on how the squatch is holding up after some time has passed!

    I’ve had my Grip bag for the same amount of time, got mine in 2019 and I love it. I was bummed though, I really wanted that brown bag, but had to get the gray as that was all they had in store. I doubt I’ll grab any other bag, unless this Grip falls apart, but even then, I’ve got a warranty.

    This is perfect for me. Just had my bag stolen and am in this exact dilemma. My son got a Grip. It’s an amazing bag. Had my eye them both. Can’t say the video helped. If grip dropped that lip or Squatch put rails on the bottom. Why wouldn’t they? Kind of a bad move. Anyway thanks I do appreciate this comparison.

    I have the Handeye Mission Rig as my "big bag" for tournaments and when I need more discs. I got it on sale for about $125-Normal price is $150- and I have to say I like it better than both. It's a nice combination of both of these bags' features. It holds 21 in the main pocket for me, and the Grace is my fastest disc. It also has two putter pockets, holds discs in the lower side pockets, and can fit a jacket/towels/a handful of discs in the top pocket while remaining comfortable. It's nice and sturdy, and doesn't show much wear in over a year. The zippers still work great. I actually had to get a smaller bag to stop myself carrying so much on casual rounds. It's a steal compared to the higher tier bags, but definitely isn't as fashionable to tell people about.

    I've got a mcbeth black flag ax5 that i love, primarily my bag for use with my rovic disc golf cart, otherwise i love my ranger h2o with my zuca backpack lg which is my standard setup. When not carting cuz of weather or hills i use a fade crunch tourney bag with four point straps. My one question here, as I've been really thinking about adding a squatch to my collection, do they have a lifetime warranty like the grip bags?

  • @pinkmusicdude
    @pinkmusicdude 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

    The rails on the sides of a grip bag after use stop bending so drastically, so yes you can fit 22 discs comfortably into the main compartment of a Grip bag.

  • @somainevent1

    I heard someone once reference “the squatch flop”.. instead of sitting it down on the group, kind of flop/drop it into place. Sounds silly, but this cut down on my tipping by about 70%.

  • @bruceleo2607
    @bruceleo2607 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

    You could transfer the rails on your grip bag to your squatch, if you're crafty, or are willing to pay someone who is.
    I switched from a DD Trooper to a Paratrooper. The Trooper fell over all the time. I was researching how to keep it from doing that before I decided to switch. There were videos on TH-cam about using narrow pvc pipe to create an internal frame that kept it from tipping. You loosed like 2-3 discs worth of space, but another idea if you really want to fix that one issue.

    • @chiebert290
      @chiebert290 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I think that would likely void the lifetime warranty. Maybe a really thin piece of plywood on the bottom would help though

    Pro tip. Buy the grip disc divider insert, it fits in the squatch perfectly. Keep the dividers out just use the base. Prevents drooping and tipping over is minimal.

    I'm at a crossroads, do I try to consolidate my bag and narrow it down to 10-12 or give in and bag everything? Fortunately, my chances of becoming a touring pro will not be impacted either way... so I got that going for me, which is nice. I like the Grip, maybe I should look at their smaller models. That was a helpful comparison. I see you're over 75% to your 10K goal, I like that.

    if you roll up a towel and put it inside the main disc compartment along the back wall, then put the discs in, it helps tremendously with not having the bag fall over. search the subreddit for a video demonstration, someone posted it like a month or 2 ago.

    I compared these exact bags just recently with the exact same conclusions. Ultimately I stuck with Grip because I don't really need more discs, and I personally felt Squatch was noticeably heavier and didn't feel like carrying that all around. The rails and overall durability of the Grip are ultimately what did it for me.

      @@tonygutermuth9347 When both bags are maxed out on discs the AX5 is far lighter, and much more durable and rigid than the Legend. I don't *really* need all of the discs the legend can fit but I'm not going to leave empty space. Loaded out bag, I'd take the AX5 all day.

    • @tonygutermuth9347
      @tonygutermuth9347 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@kygurnz LOL. That's a silly argument. If you put the same number of discs in each bag, the Legend is far lighter. Period. With regards to durability, the Legend is far more durable. Cordura has been proven in the lab to be far more durable than the standard nylon that the Grip bag is made from. I will concede that AX5 is more rigid in the bottom where it hits you in the back.

  • @Mdjagg
    @Mdjagg 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

    Grip would be the best bag ever if they prioritized the amount of space for disc carrying. They really missed the mark with how the top opens, and with a minor redesign, it could easily hold 6-8 putters/mids. The side pouches would take an even more minor redesign to fit 4-5 more discs per side. Seems like the Grip design team does not play disc golf, which is the only way the current Ax5 would've happened.

    I'll stick to trooper.. I made my own pockets for the trooper on the zipper flap a disc now fits just like the grip and squash I made a mesh front loader where the discs sit and were it says dynamic discs .. .. I put plastic deviders at the bottom for light weight and never fall over.. and I fit 22 discs ..
    The bag is 20lbs or less .. and I maxed my price tag at 70$ when said and done with everything added..
    You spent near 180$ more ..
    To toss plastic into trees..
    The best is someone who payed 700$ for a recycled wheelchair .and they toss from whites no more then 300ft per hole..
    I laugh cause they literally spent a construction paycheck to toss plastic 300ft
