It's a question many of us have heard growing up in Church. Many have grown up believing that good works and trying to be a good person is sufficient for bridging the gap of separation we have from God, due to sin. My dad grew up with those same beliefs and thoughts until the gospel was presented to him clearly when he was a teenager.
In this video, he shares his journey from being a young sinner to being gloriously transformed by the saving power of Jesus Christ.
I am so encouraged by my parents and their love for the Lord - That they were able to help our family grow to see what the Christian life can be and how to know Jesus as our Personal Savior!

Well, if that was not the best thing on You Tube, I don't know what is! What a blessing you and your family are, Gil! I am 71. I was saved at the age of 8. My parents were divorced and never went to church, but my Grandma loved the Lord and when I was at her house I went with her to church and Bible School. She was even my teacher most of the time. When I was home I went to the Baptist church and that is where I accepted Christ. My stepdad eventually was saved and my mother got right with the Lord. I married my high school sweetheart who was in my youth group and although we only had three children, we now have 12 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren! Not all of them are serving the Lord, but it is my constant prayer that God will work in their hearts. Your family is so encouraging. Erin you are a shining example of the love of Christ, as well as your husband. God bless you each one for the light you bring to You Tube. I watch every one of your siblings who are on.
I agree the Bates family is a huge blessing. I was saved at the age of 10 and I'm 37 now and I am so thankful for Erin and her entire family.

I was saved at 24 and all of my immediate family soon gave their life to the Lord. Many years later after many, many prayers my daddy was saved at the age of 70! Never give up, never stop praying for the lost. ❤❤❤

I keep praying for my dad. He is 95 1/2. I know God is keeping him alive for him to accept Jesus Christ as his savior. My mom was saved, I believe, but she died at 66.

Wonderful testimony! Were it not for grace. My parents went to a similar church, even became Sunday School teachers, and never heard the Gospel until they were in their 40s. What a difference in our lives when we realized it’s not about religion but a personal relationship with Jesus Christ!❤

I met your dad and your brother Jeb when I drove through Knoxville on my way to Virginia. The one thing that stands out about your dad was that he was so intent that I knew the Gospel, and that I knew Jesus personally. He even gave me a tract and a Bible. I passed on both to someone who did not know the Lord, as I do know the Lord. But he comes to mind very often when I meet new people because of how intent he was to make sure I knew Jesus. I shared that story with my small group with hopes that we would share the Gospel just as your dad inspired us. Thank you Gil (and Erin) for sharing this. We appreciate you.

I love Mr. Bates testimony! My 11 year old daughter and I met him and your mom at the boutique. They were so down to earth and kind to us. Invited us to come to their church when were back in TN. I love this! It could be the testimony of so many who go to church but are spiritually dead. I am a Christian and accepted Christ at an early age and was baptized, but my walk was far from God as I became a young adult. I was in an adulterous relationship for 17 years, but God brought me out. He held on to me for all those years. It was a painful heartbreak in my life when the human relationship suddenly went away. In my heart, I knew it was God's hand of grace bringing me back to where I belonged...in obedience to Him. I've never looked back except to repeated thank God for taking me back and taking me in to serve Him.❤

There are so many people who were raised in churches like Gil was, where they don't even preach the Gospels! How is that possible? Good works and being a good person does not get you into His Kingdom. Thank you, Gil, for sharing your testimony ❤

I have a very similar testimony Gil…faithfully attending church but never heard the presentation of the gospel. Came to know the Lord at a youth camp @ age 12 but still did not grow in my faith. While in Nursing school was blessed with a Born again roommate and started attending her church with her…where I finally heard the gospel preached. Prayed the sinners prayer and was RE baptized! I think you so much for sharing your testimony.

Pastor Gill Bates is definitely a humble man who has looked inside his own personal life and asked our Heavenly Father to cleanse him of his sinful ways. Many don’t realize that we are ALL born as sinners and We must be born again to enter the gaits of heaven. Knowing and believing upon John 3:16(God so Loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in Him shall NOT parish, but have everlasting life.) Thank you for your testimony! I was saved at age 18 after a very sinful and selfish life. Now I'm the wife of a Pastor with five wonderful children! Praise God for his long suffering and mercy. Eph. 3:14-21

Thank you for this vlog. I now go to a Baptist church that is a Bible believing church and have learned so much. Grew up in church, but was more on following church rules. Mr Gil Bates, thank you so much for sharing your testimony. I was raised in a born again christian home, But I have many children that all how the Lord needs to draw them close to him in a new way. I was almost in tears today. Listen thinking, my family members have accepted the Lord as their savior, but their walk in their talk is not showing Christ flowing out of them. This was one of the best things on TH-cam today that I saw thank you, Jesus for the Bates family for their heart for you, Lord and their bold testimony. That was wonderful encouragement, I too came out of a worldly lifestyle to Jesus. As a child I heard @ him, but as this Dad said, I didn't know Jesus. My salvation was 12--8--1985. If any man, or woman be in Christ, he/ she IS a new creature. Only then is the old passed away! Hallelujah what a Savior! 🧔♂️💕

What a beautiful testimony, Gil. I have a similar story. I thought I was a Christian for a long time, but kept living a life of sin with no remorse. I’m so glad that God changed my heart, my life, and generations to come that will honor and glorify Him ❤
