I love the transparency of these ammo tests. I can see everything in the frame in real time. I wish more would do this. 22plinkster shows the side view and puts the target on the screen but in all actuality I don't know if he's shooting at 50 yards or 10 yards. And taking a 25 shot average is much better than just shooting a group. Anyone can dick around until they get a good group on camera. With your tests you don't leave anything to doubt! Keep up the good work!
Finally a 22lr shooter who shoots with a clean bore, it’s hardly ever the fact that one gun likes a certain round, it’s usually one round that doesn’t like the wax or coating from the previous round types
I have shot a bunch of that Federal bulk pack and my 10-22 with a bull barrel likes it. Decent groups and functions well in my rifle. I got my first .22 in 1965. Yes I am an old fart. Remington golden bullet .22lr was about $.75 for a box of 50. My Marlin 39A Mountie loved that ammo. My Dad would take me to Maidlow's store in Princeton, IN. One side of the store was guns and ammo and you could get your hunting and fishing licenses there. The other side was package liquor but I didn't get to go in that side. lol
I fell in love with cz rifles ever since I got my 455. I don't think there is any other gun like it. I really enjoy watching the videos you put out there so much I actually watch them until the end. Haha
Really enjoying this series of videos and tests. Everything is as consistent as you can make it. I picked up a bunch of it about a year ago. This is good inexpensive plinking ammo and I'm not too surprised at your results. Right now, I only have access to a 25 yard indoor range. I'm taking whatever ammo I have, on hand, and trying to follow your lead just for the fun of it. I'm shooting a Remington 581-S that I've had since the 90's. You have a great format and it's keeping me busy. Thanks, again.
Love these videos and thanks for shooting bulk pack. Figured it wouldn't perform as well as the target ammo but it is good to see what it will do in that rifle. I really like the shoot offs you do and can't wait to see the finale. Keep up the good work!

I get about 1.5 MOA with Federal bulk out of a 30 year old Marlin 25N. 3/4 inch or less groups at 50 yards. Had to laugh that your neighbor was out shooting ad well. The sounds of freedom always makes me smile. Happy New year
Good stuff, my father, and step dad both swore by CCI for .22LR, and that's what I learned to shoot with, so that's what I've always been picking up myself over the years, and stocked up on earlier this year for my old Remington 22 bolt action with a simple cheapo Chinoook 3-9X40 scope on it(works well enough for me with a sand bag), but yeah I'm really Impressed with this Federal bulk pack, and I'm gonna have to grab a box, or 2 when I see it back in stock to give it a try. 👍👍
Thank you for a CZ 457 Varmint MTR 22LR "REAL DEAL." For those that have the specific stock CZ 22LR rifle like yours, the ammo tests are particularly informative. My compliments on your presentation style and warm personality.
Nice to see a target rifle with standard ammo. I do these vids with all my rifles- I refuse to pay a ton of money for 50 rds of target ammo. i really like the Aguila too, but I'll run winchester super x white box bulk through my guns, or federal hollowpoint. They seem to shoot fine for what I do. I am glad I have as much 22lr as I have, I have been buying bulk for the last 5 years off and on, so I have a good stock. The stock on the CZ is beautiful. What a nice looking (and shooting) gun
Wow, the bulk federal did better than i thought it would! i’m going to test some bulk myself now with my MTR. i have winchester white box 555 and federal automatch on hand. hmmm ;) great video, thanks.
As a longtime owner of 9 CZ 452s I can testify that they all have their own ammo preference. I bought a couple cases of CCI SV back in the day and all my 452s do pretty well with that but they also have individual preferences. Some like Wolf, some like SK, some like Eley but none seem to like the bulk stuff. Your groups were pretty good for HV bulk ammo. Just my $0.02 worth. YMMV. Thanks!!!
Great series of videos you are doing with the CZ. I realized you might have tested some SK and sure enough I found this SK Plus video. Your results give me hope. I shot a .4” group with my Ruger American at 50 yards under perfect but cold outdoor conditions. This is my new squirrel hunting load for sure. Happy I bought a brick recently, at .19c pr it should last me several seasons of happy hunting. Wish I could get my wife interested in shooting but she is still a keeper. Thanks.
Excellent video! The Federal bulk pack is impressive. Not what I had expected. I did not expect it to be horrible out of that CZ barrel, but not that good.
Impressive bulk ammo performance from Federal. If I learned one thing from these fun trials it's that no matter how much money you spend on 22lr in terms of match ammo vs bulk. It only matters if it really matters. Oh, and that these 22lr videos are addictive. Thanks Buffalo, as always. NOTE: Please do not feel obligated to respond to my comments every time I post. Great test Buffalo. I have a bunch of these Federal Bulk Packs, bought them for about $12/box. They function great in my 10/22's. They generally group under 1.5" at 100 yards, can't complain for 2.5 cents/shot (especially these days).
I have a couple of packs of this, but you know, I never tried it either to see just how good/bad it is in this type of shooting. I am impressed now! I'm going to try this out in my Sako Finnfire II next week. Thanks again,...this is interesting, always.
So glad I snagged a heap of the stuff back early 2020. If you want to get some kind of consistency with rimfire, you can take a caliper and scale, sort stuff by weight and diameter. Could always run a bore brush through every 5 shots, shooting 1 round after the brushing (as a conditioner) before starting the next group.
I am glad you showed a bulk pack in this test. I know this test is quality ammo in a quality stock rifle. But you proved with a good stock setup and bulk pack ammo you can easily get minute of squirrel results. I wish I got some of that SK ammo 6 months ago just to try it. Happy New Year fine sir.
That sure is a nice setup there Buffalo! I "tried" something similar on the farm (rickety old table for a bench), target in front of a tree, and chrono in front of the rifle. But I'd neglected to "properly" line up the chrono, taking into consideration the scope view was "above" the barrel. Very first shot with my 223 blew the ass end out of the chrono :(
I use bulk pack stuff mostly for my pistols and revolvers. All shots at 7 to 15 yard. The bulk pack stuff is fine so long as it goes "bang". And if I'm plinking with rifle, I'm shooting at reactive targets that are not all that small out to 50 yards. I never thought I needed more accuracy from the ammo (I put the blame squarely on me if I miss a 3 to 5 inch target at 50). Good video and good shooting.
I shot tons & tons of Aguila & CCI blazer through my Savage.. both was pretty good for cheap ammo, but the blazer was just way more consistent & accurate.
I've shoot many many boxes of this Federal Champion value pack ammo. It's excellent plinking ammo. It's consistent, surprisingly accurate and very reliable. I've rarely gotten a dud. I remember paying $9.99/box, back in the day!
I have a CZ-452 Model 2E Standard and I can group this ammo at 1"-1.2" at 100m!! I use it for hunting all the time and it has been devastating on rabbits. the furthest shot I got was 130m, single shot to the chest, dead instantly!! It's the oldest rifle I own and got it for my 13th Birthday in 1988!! It's still the main .22lr I use to this day!!
Excellent, as usual. People often disregard "bulk pack" ammo, as cheap junk that's too inconsistant or unreliable. Some rifles do very well with it, in my experience, a standard velocity lead round nose projectile does very well in most of the rifles I have.
I rarely clean the bore but like you I found a long time ago that you really need to shoot at least 10 shots before shooting groups to season a bore to a particular ammo. I am sure you have talked about the trigger in that rifle but I missed it. I had a lux several years back but I really hated the backwards safety. I did a cheap trigger job with some spacers. It that trigger ready to go out of the box? Have you had it on a trigger gage?'
its ebb and flow- I have seen a few boxes here and there, and online it comes and goes- if you can buy online, and are willing to pay 60 cents to 80 cents a round, you have to pull the trigger as soon as you see it in stock, or it's usually gone in minutes. Online retailers are cleaning up. They sell to a lot of smaller shops, so what is 60 cents a round online, is $1.00 a round in some shops. I heard cheaper than dirt is getting sued for overpricing ammo- I have never bought from them, i buy from a smaller retailer closer to me, and they have great service and comparable prices to the big shops near me that buy pallets of ammo.
Good shooting brother keep it up where did you get those wide extensions for the triggers on your 457 czs I sure would like to have about the three of them the ones that make your trigger wider and goes over your trigger the ones you have on your cz? Beagleman
Thanks for your ammo tests I have a cz457 and I found the 325 round bulk federal auto match shoots pretty respectable groups compared to the federal ammo you used but it’s 1200 fps so a little closer to subsonic also if you get a chance try the Norma tac 22 it’s 1100fps it’s about the same as the sk ammo really good groups sub moa at 50yds. Keep up your videos thanks
That exact box was always the best bulk you could buy imo, as far as accuracy/consistency is concerned- leagues better than say Rem Thunderbolts. But the last box of them I bought within the past year or so, I had about 10 duds out of about every 100 shots (bad primers) and they were very inconsistant like Thunderbolts tend to be; some clearly had more pop than others. Then I remembered that Fedral/CCI was aquired by ATK/Vista Outdoors and quality went to crap afterwards, so it made sense. I had the CCI Stinger squib load that destroyed my TX22 in my curse heavy review of it (sorry), then the very next box of Federals I bought performed nothing like they used to. I'm afraid these brands we used to rely on are no longer what they once were. I would say I hope they can resurrect the quality issues and bring a quality product back to the table like they used to, but I have pretty much already sworn off of their brands due to the way I was treated by their customer service when I called about the squib, namely by being called a liar. I'm assuming this box you have here in the video is a couple years old? All I know is I'm not the only one, because a lot of people have come forward on my videos partaining to it sharing their experience with bad ammo from CCI as well. I didn't really say much about Federal in the videos, but they are basically the same company. Anyway, sorry for the long winded comment Buffalo. That box you got there performed very well for bulk. I would be curious to see Thunderbolts if you have any, because I got money on them being worse lol. Also, as I'm sure you're aware, the difference between bulk and match will be much more apparent at 100 yards. So I ponder if you will try bulk & match at 100 when you are done with the 50 yard series, just to show where the steep price tag for match starts to pay off...
I thought about doing that in this video but since I didn't sort any of the other ammo I have tested I thought it would be best to test it straight out of the box. A separate video on sorted vs unsorted bulk ammo is a great idea though. I wrote it down in my handy dandy notepad. THank you for the idea!
When you're comparing this bulk pack ammo to some match ammo, that is pretty respectable groups. I like the Federal bulk packs. I found that it functions real well in my auto rifles compared to some other bulk ammo. Like this review, always fair and honest as usual.
What you found out is the same as I did years ago. If you don’t like spending $25 dollars a box for 22 target ammo. With a little extra work you can make less costly ammo shoot small consistent groups for a lot less money. Every 22 rifle likes or shoots better with ammo that has a certain size rim thickness. If all the rims measure 0.43 inches most likely that makes them do better. If they all weigh the same in weight that ups the accuracy too. The ones that have variations in rim thickness and weight make decent practice ammo. If you take the time to put them in boxes and mark the boxes with their size and weight they shoot better too. I went to shooting matches and winning or losing was just a one point difference. I didn’t have the best rifle made or the best ammo. I wasn’t the best shot either. All I did; was use the things I could afford and make them better with a little more work. I ended up close to the top and won some matches too. It isn’t always who has the most money or fancy shooting irons that win. It is better to have the best knowledge of what you can afford than spending money on things you don’t understand; thinking it makes you shoot better. These things only matter if you want them too; I will tell you this; they do work and make a difference.
You some kind of steady, Mr. Buffalo. No hint of movement till the shots gone. With low level ammo! Never had luck with Federal Rimfires. CCI "Blazer" works in everything I own. Of course, now unobtainable.
Great test Sir through a proper rifle, I would be very curious to see what weighing the rounds with powder scales would do, I have that feeling things would really tighten up! Thanks Brother
I just bought a couple of Winchester M22 1000rnd boxes of 22lr at Walmart. They where $49. I’ve never shot that ammo before but I was told it’s pretty good, and I couldn’t pass up all that 22lr starting me in the eyes lol. Thanks for the video as alway!
Buff I love your vids. Everyday I look to see if you posted a new one. I've done 22 experiments for years. I've found that each one of my 22 rifles has its own favorite ammo. Have you experienced this or am I just crazy?
The MTR has a match chamber, correct? Vs the other cz rifles. Did that make for any tights chambering with this lower grade ammo or did the bolt seem to close just fine?
Have you tried the Remington bulk golden point HP , I use them in my model 150 leatherneck for the yard varmints pretty accurate in this rifle but I’m only shooting 10-30 yards.
I'm surprised but then again it's a CZ with Buffalo behind it...explains alot. You have me looking for your exact rifle as I'm typing this comment. I've never seen bulk pack 22lr shoot so accurate! Happy Holidays brother and hope all is well with you & your's!👍🙏✝️🇺🇸🦅💪
That's what i like none of the pick your best group kind of deal. That federal bulk is actually a very consistent lot. Good shooting no bias no pk your best group and edit.
I was at Whittaker's yesterday and they had the eley 10x and one other target grade .22 lr ammo. A box of 50 cost about what that 1 box of bulk pack cost when in stock. I think for the cost difference the bulk pack did quite well. Also, the Federal bulk pack seems to be the best across all .22s I have ever run it in. Maybe not the best for that particular gun, but it seems all guns like it well enough that it is just about the only thing I buy in .22 lr ammo anymore.

I have some Federal Champion 40 gr round nose bullets in 50 round boxes I bought from Walmart in Jan 2022 that shoot 1 MOA or less at 50 and 100 yards in my Tikka T1X. They shoot as good at SK Semi-Auto Rifle, Eley Target, and Eley Force that cost 2x more. I did not buy the bulk pack Federal Champion. I doubt the next box of 50 rounds of Champion will be any good.
I would like to see exactly where it falls in the line up and how many of the expensive brands it beat out. I know I can go back and review each video but I hope you show all the ammo at the end and what place they rank 1 thru 10 or 11 if the bulk pack is just an added extra in your original 10. Thanks
That's what I expected. The industrial process improved to a point that bulk is not as bad as used to be. I know these days you shoot what you have, but I suggest Lapua Center-X and perhaps Midas+. My CZ really likes them, even better than SK.
I've always had good luck with the blue federal bulk pack stuff. My Tikka shoots it well! To pick your brain quick, if you had to pick 17hmr vs 22mag what would you pick and why? Thanks brother! Hope y'all had a blessed Christmas.
I have always found the Federal Champion bulk pack ammo to be the most accurate and reliable bulk pack 22LR ammo. It also shoots pretty clean for rimfire ammo. At least, that’s my experience with it in my 22s. Of course, not all 22s like the same loads.
No mods. I wanted to do this ammo test as the rifle came out of the box. The only thing I have done is added the Area 419 scope base, Vortex rings and Sightron SII scope. I do have some mods in mind after I finish this series on the ammo tests.

You're starting to hurt us now Buffalo...a CZ. My, my my! Superb fit, finish, and action. Just the furniture says SOLD!
It is a great rifle for sure. CZ builds em right. Thanks for tuning in!
I've shoot many many boxes of this Federal Champion value pack ammo. It's excellent plinking ammo. It's consistent, surprisingly accurate and very reliable. I've rarely gotten a dud. I remember paying $9.99/box, back in the day!
Great video buffalo. I shoot a lot of the federal auto match. 40g lead round nose. Accurate stuff for bulk ammo.
Thanks I like that Federal Auto Match. Good ammo.
Ohhhhh getting fancy with your sliding overlay skills. Great vid 👍
Thanks! I try to learn something new now and then just to keep things fresh.
@@buffalosoutdoors looking good
I have a CZ-452 Model 2E Standard and I can group this ammo at 1"-1.2" at 100m!!
There's virtually no ammo around my area. I reluctantly shot a few mags through my new 1911. Can't wait for it to return to normal.
its ebb and flow- I have seen a few boxes here and there, and online it comes and goes- if you can buy online, and are willing to pay 60 cents to 80 cents a round, you have to pull the trigger as soon as you see it in stock, or it's usually gone in minutes.
I doubt ammo availability will ever return to "normal" if the liberal democrats run this country. Sorry to disappoint.
Good shooting brother keep it up where did you get those wide extensions for the triggers on your 457 czs I sure would like to have about the three of them the ones that make your trigger wider and goes over your trigger the ones you have on your cz?
Beagleman
Thanks Buffalo for another great video. Not bad for bulk ammo.
Thanks for watching, I agree it done pretty good.
Thanks for these test. Love that rifle
So I ponder if you will try bulk & match at 100 when you are done with the 50 yard series, just to show where the steep price tag for match starts to pay off...
in my 457 training rifle, the federal auto match bulk pack ammo is consistently one of the most accurate rounds it shoots, its crazy
Will you try to sort bulk ammo with rim thickness gauge ? Result would be very interesting. Hornady gauge will do
I thought about doing that in this video but since I didn't sort any of the other ammo I have tested I thought it would be best to test it straight out of the box. A separate video on sorted vs unsorted bulk ammo is a great idea though. I wrote it down in my handy dandy notepad. THank you for the idea!
Some match shooters will weigh each cartridge with a digital scale, and select the rounds that weigh the same when shooting bulk.
When you're comparing this bulk pack ammo to some match ammo, that is pretty respectable groups. I like the Federal bulk packs. I found that it functions real well in my auto rifles compared to some other bulk ammo. Like this review, always fair and honest as usual.
Great groupings with this flavor, looking forward to the “Shoot Off!!”
Thanks for keeping up the great informative videos !
👍👍
You some kind of steady, Mr. Buffalo. No hint of movement till the shots gone. With low level ammo!
Never had luck with Federal Rimfires. CCI "Blazer" works in everything I own. Of course, now unobtainable.
Great test Sir through a proper rifle, I would be very curious to see what weighing the rounds with powder scales would do, I have that feeling things would really tighten up!
Thanks Brother
The 40gr Federal ammo bulk pack shoots damn well out of my 10/22
Awesome!
mine too, it's great ammo
Federal auto match is my favorite bulk 22lr. Usually in a 325rd. Pack
Thanks for the great video again! All i shoot is bulk ammo, its plenty accurate to put food on the table
If you see it buy it! Never know how long it might be before you see it again! Thanks for watching!
I’ve been in the market for a bolt .22 LR. This might have to be the one, great video. Subbed
Nice. Thanks Buffalo!
Pretty impressive Buffalo!
Buff I love your vids. Everyday I look to see if you posted a new one. I've done 22 experiments for years. I've found that each one of my 22 rifles has its own favorite ammo. Have you experienced this or am I just crazy?
man that gun just shoots! I bet it would even make remington thunderbolt look good lol
The MTR has a match chamber, correct? Vs the other cz rifles. Did that make for any tights chambering with this lower grade ammo or did the bolt seem to close just fine?
cmmg recomends fed bulk pack for their 22 ar i have one and it functions well
I had to stop at the common / not so common remark for a good chuckle......lmao
Have you tried the Remington bulk golden point HP , I use them in my model 150 leatherneck for the yard varmints pretty accurate in this rifle but I’m only shooting 10-30 yards.
Cool beans! This is really a useful experiment!
God bless all here.
Happy Holidays to you and yours as well! Thanks for the great comment!
That's what i like none of the pick your best group kind of deal. That federal bulk is actually a very consistent lot. Good shooting no bias no pk your best group and edit.
Once that barrel warms up those groups come together. Great rifle btw
Some great shooting Buffalo and another fine video. 👏👍
Thank you!
How did you find a day in the last month when the wind wasn’t blowing 100mph?
That gun is badass.your shooting is excellent.i tell people that have shot my db9 how well you shot that. I usually have to show them.not that they don't believe me but we are from Missouri.
Hello over there in Missouri! I am glad you enjoy the videos. I still have that little DB9 and carry it sometimes when I just need something to throw in my pocket.
@@buffalosoutdoors I wish I could shot mine as well as you.i got it for Christmas last year and I can't shoot it worth a damn. Everytime I take to the range the wife asks me how it went (knowing not well) then tells me that I asked for it...lol. I really enjoy your channel.thanks for taking the effort.
@@Rumpleskin Man I hate that yours doesn't shoot well. I get comments a lot telling me that mine doesn't shoot well either but I have been pretty happy with it.
@@buffalosoutdoors not convinced that it isn't me.i had to talk a buddy that is really" blind in one eye and can't see with the other" to shoot it. Center of the bullseye! But it stovepiped and it was trying to leave his hand.i told him to hear down on it when he did it was low left like me.i think I pull it trying to hold on.. it's a handful. You do much better than me... 😂
That's a very nice rifle
Nice presentation...good shooting
I have some Federal Champion 40 gr round nose bullets in 50 round boxes I bought from Walmart in Jan 2022 that shoot 1 MOA or less at 50 and 100 yards in my Tikka T1X. They shoot as good at SK Semi-Auto Rifle, Eley Target, and Eley Force that cost 2x more. I did not buy the bulk pack Federal Champion. I doubt the next box of 50 rounds of Champion will be any good.
from my 10/22 result was terrible on same distance same ammo, impressed
I have a good bit of that ammo, looks pretty good to me. Thanks for testing it.
You're very welcome! I am blessed to be able to do it!
Great shootn Thanks for sharing just picked up an MTR will check your channel and Reviews on some Ammo 👍🏻🎯
Thank you. I hope you enjoy my video on this awesome .22 lr rifle.
I would like to see exactly where it falls in the line up and how many of the expensive brands it beat out. I know I can go back and review each video but I hope you show all the ammo at the end and what place they rank 1 thru 10 or 11 if the bulk pack is just an added extra in your original 10. Thanks
I am saving all the targets and will definitely rank them at the end. Thanks for watching!
Great bulk ammo
That's what I expected. The industrial process improved to a point that bulk is not as bad as used to be. I know these days you shoot what you have, but I suggest Lapua Center-X and perhaps Midas+. My CZ really likes them, even better than SK.
Buffalo what size is your rear bag form top to bottom thanks
I've always had good luck with the blue federal bulk pack stuff. My Tikka shoots it well! To pick your brain quick, if you had to pick 17hmr vs 22mag what would you pick and why? Thanks brother! Hope y'all had a blessed Christmas.
I have always found the Federal Champion bulk pack ammo to be the most accurate and reliable bulk pack 22LR ammo. It also shoots pretty clean for rimfire ammo. At least, that’s my experience with it in my 22s. Of course, not all 22s like the same loads.
Great vid and great shooting
Hey Buffalo, can you provide details on that 457 you are using? Any mods, etc? I really enjoy these videos, thanks for posting.
No mods. I wanted to do this ammo test as the rifle came out of the box. The only thing I have done is added the Area 419 scope base, Vortex rings and Sightron SII scope. I do have some mods in mind after I finish this series on the ammo tests.
@@buffalosoutdoors Thanks for the reply. Good approach on your tests. How about testing some standard velocity? Hopefully you post a vid of the mods.
@@RadYOacTVe Will do for sure!
