    Thank you for this info, I love your videos. I just bought my first decent 22 bolt gun at 56 years old & am loving it, The CZ 457 Lux. Plan on bringing those squirrels home this year.

    I tested two lots of Lapua Midas + at 100 yards in my CZ MTR. One averaged .794” groups, the other averaged 1.941”. Average of three 5-shot groups. Shot with a $1,000 one-piece rest. I’m a pretty good shooter.

    This series has been a lot of fun! Dont sell yourself short. Somebody ALWAYS has a better way...... whether it is or not, they will feel compelled to tell you. You did a fantastic job. Laid out the scenarios from the start and followed them! This is what we ended with. I really enjoyed this and you have my respects.
    God bless all here.

      Hear that Adam? 25 shots to season the barrel. Lol. 3-5 is pretty reasonable. I wouldn't do 25 myself. It does make a difference though. I've tested it.

    I thought the CCI SV would have done better but it was up against some tough competition. This series proves whats been known by competition shooters for a long time. Each rifle, each barrel, each lot number, etc. will perform differently out of the exact same set up. Each rifle has its own "personality" preferring one ammo over the other. For the money Eley Tenex and Lapua CenterX should perform the best. I don't know of any 22LR ammo that is more consistent. Enter your Top 3 contenders. One never knows what's best in THEIR particular rifle until you try it. When you do find that sweet spot, go buy all of that lot number you can find. Lot numbers can and do make a difference for the smallest groups. If you're hunting squirrels, even the 10th place CCI SV is good enough.

  • @paoemantega8793
    @paoemantega8793 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Its the mass of the projectile that affects the group size I found (the case and powder differences being inconsequential), so when I get varying groups like that in .22LR, I weight batch the ammo, to within 1 grain groups (like 50.5 to 51.4, 51.5 to 52.4, 52.5 to 53.4 etc.) this way I get the tightest groups out of the standard ammo.. Keep up the great work Buffalo.

    I believe all the tested brands of ammo shot well enough to use as hunting ammo at the range you tested them. The one that wins the overall final test makes a good standard to judge the others by. The question is; how much it costs to use for the difference in performance. Any that the average groups hovers around .5-inches is pretty good performance at 50 yards. It might be interesting to see the best of the best groups tested at 100 yards. That might show what bullets do better at longer distance. This brings up the question of using 40 grain loads that shoot in the 1,200 feet per-second velocity range. Sometimes they do as good as standard target velocity ammo does at 100-yards. You will see target shooters shooting for score make multiple slight sight adjustment shooting for score during a match. They are more interested in keeping each shot inside the X-ring than shooting tight groups. Try that sometime and see why target shooters made target style turrets so popular now days.

    Just got a new CZ 457 Varmint and CCI Standard Velocity shoots great out of it. So far haven't found anything it doesn't like. Wolf Match Match Target, SK Standard Plus shoots very well also. Got a some more to test later. Crazy how different rifles shoot different ammo well.

  • @rudedawg5087
    @rudedawg5087 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Thanks for this series, I've really enjoyed it. I'm not really surprised with the CCI SV's as I have personally seen better to worse groups with different lots out of my rifles. That just shows to the lack of consistency within that tier of ammo and with the new owners pumping them out as fast as they can to keep up with demand so who knows what we'll be seeing. What I am surprised with is the rifle itself, especially having a match chamber. You have covered some very popular target ammo brands but they produced such a varied measure of groups and guessing from the same lot numbers. This leads me to believe something in the rifle is not quiet dialed in. I would hope you can get to the bottom of it or that CZ would be going down the road. Thanks again.

    This has been an interesting series. During this series my wife got her CZ 457 (she chose the "At-One" stock and 24" barrel) and has been very satisfied with it. We have a large stock of Wolf Match Target (older, SK made) ammo on hand and that is what she uses. It did well in your test, but didn't make the cut. If the prices come back down, we will experiment with some of the others you tested.
    I really enjoy these detailed examinations.

My rear bag is a protektor (rabbit ears). My trigger has the yo dave spring (10oz). I was shooting RWS Target Rifle (8.50 a box). Wind was 0-2mph. My average size was 0.371!

    I bought the same rifle last month. I had one box of Midas+ that shot a practice 2350 out of 2500 on an ARA Factory Class target. Unfortunately I only had that one box. Out of all the ammos I have tested beyond that SK Standard Plus has been the best.

  • @metubewot

    Loved the video as always Buffalo. Back in the 70's, I had an old BSA 22, with open sights, before scope attachments were standard. It never dawned on me to test different ammos. I just bought anything that I could get, usually Eley subsonic, and put any misses down to my ineptitude. I loved that old gun for rabbits, and once shot a rabbit through the head from 180 yards, while sitting astride a wobbly gate with a bag of rabbits swinging about on my back. I just hung over him a good bit, "that's a technical term", while wobbling about, and drilled him through the head. The unluckiest rabbit that ever lived. I still often feel guilty about that one. Poor unlucky little soul. However it was farm pest control. We killed hundreds of rabbits, the place was moving.

    Buffalo Brother you are just about out of the rabbit hole - what an awesome series thank you much. Now you know in this online game better than anyone else there is always a BUT. There is a lot of debate in my circles that the new boxed CCISV stuff that you have here has a new recipe. I am told that the old CCI was using Vihtavuori propellant which is known for it's clean burning characteristics. The new stuff, I am not sure what it is but it is much dirtier. --- SO that leads me to, do you have any of the older CCISV to test against? I have been trying to find some of the new CCI myself if you know where I can get some please let me know.
    Again great presentation, I can't wait until the finals are underway.

    Very similar groups to what my 457 MTR produced with same ammo. I do not mind trying different ammo as those that do not work out eventually get used up in the rimfire pistol. My best so far was with SK std plus with a 0.2" ten shot group from 50 yds. These lil rifles do have match chambers and seem to shoot best with tighter tolerance fodder. Nice series and thanks for posting.

  • @Strutingeagle
    @Strutingeagle 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    And I enjoyed your ammo test series, thank you for your efforts. Out of every 8 groups a person can expect 2 of the groups to be dime size or less with this ammo.

  • @jeffwood32
    @jeffwood32 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    Very very close to the results I get from my MTR.
    On any given day one SK might out shot what I thought was my best SK
    Lapua Center X is hard to beat most of the time.
    But the best I've seen was an ammo I'd never heard of until my brother got me a box.
    RWS R50 SC = (Short Chamber)
    I can't tell you how much I've enjoyed watching a good old boy do I honest review!👍
    Can't wait to see what you do with that rifle next!
    I think it's about as good as it gets for the money, but I couldn't resist tuning it up a little more.

    Great video, as always. Thanks for doing this series!
    I'm not surprised the different SK types comes out on top and CCI Standard at the bottom - just like my own experience the CCI's can give a good group now and then but mostly it's 3 (or 4 at best) together + 1 or 2 flyers. Doing 10 shot groups makes it worse, sometimes dramatically so.

    They did well in my Ruger, 1/2" grouping with three flyers. Even the AR Tactical had amazing results. You try the AR & how long is your barrel?

    I would suggest SK Rifle Match for most CZ rifles. I've never seen any CCI ammo achieve acceptable accuracy. As you know SK is a sister company to Lapua. There's a Lapua testing center in Ohio and Arizona that will test different lot numbers and several Lapua ammos. They limit your purchase to two cases currently. If I were serious that's where I'd go. CZ and Vudoo seem to like SK and Lapua ammos. I shoot Anschutz which likes RWS and won't touch SK or Lapua. Crazy how that works.
    You may be able to shed some light on this, I could be crazy? With bolt action rifles I tend to not know when my mag is empty so I got some .22 snap caps to put as my last round in the mag. I didn't want to dry fire my competition rifle even if it wouldn't hurt it. We treat em as if they were made of glass. lol The local group shoots at 30 yards but if you're off by 1/8" you're not competitive. I have some nice rifles but my most expensive is a bolt action .22. That's bat shit crazy, no question about it.

    I so admire your disciplined and scientific approach to this ammo comparison series. Plus, I was real invested in learning the performance of the CCI SV, also. Three cheers to you, Mr. Buffalo! Grace and Peace 😊

    Great series! Keep up the terrific work. Have the same cz and hopefully it will do well on crows to 100 yards

    Great series
    As a ling time viewer and shooter i have recommendation...
    Load the 5 rounds in a mag and shoot without breaking your cheek weld!

      Possibility of bullet deformation hence single loading.

    I have a brick of the older CCISV , dark blue box , it shoots well in my Smith & Wesson model 41 pistol . The 41 also likes SK Pistol Match.
