Rod Stewart is long overdue for his Kennedy center honors for his contributions to American culture. His voice and songs and music and his ability to adapt to different genres have been transcendent to many generations. You might not like his music but he was part of music history. Plus the center have honored Brits before.
I’m in my 50’s and it’s incredible to me how some individuals have this spectacularly potent Life Force where age and 80 is invisible as a barrier. Rod Stewart, Ridley Scott, Mick Jagger, etc. are going strong as ever with no indication of retiring. It’s Inspiring.
I remember I was walking behind someone near Central Park, and without seeing the face of the person in front of me, I instantly thought, 'this guy has Rod Stewart hair.' It turns out, it was Rod himself, just another New York character out for a stroll.
You not going to mention that Jools was in bloody Squeeze and fronts the biggest music TV show in the UK? He deserves a bit more credit for the album, surely? Very talented musician and a nice bloke.
Definetly no Q's: Jools injected some of the finest moments during the squeeze early yrs. The more i got into squeeze and the more i watched jools on tv, either it be the tube dvd or playing piano in a comedy sketch or simply interviewing someone, the more i took a liking to him. Jools holland a total music nut. It was always nice to see gilson lavis drumming away like no other in jools's rhythm and blues band aswell.
Jools deserves more credits then he's getting. This man has his own show and everything. He's the most talented piano player I've ever seen. Rod couldn't have made this album without Jools.🙌
His memoir is a must read if you are a fan. When I read his interest in model trains, I realized he is a keen bloke. My brother had a train set in his teens and wondered why he didn't continue. The book is very insightful to Rod's loves (all, not just the women); you realize he is a well-spoken, well-rounded person.
Taking nothing away from Sir Rod, but you needed to give a little more credit to Jools Holland for this album. He is a great producer and arranger, as well as an amazing piano player. I’m listening as much for the band on these recordings as I am to Rod's vocals.
Just watched this. I was born into a very musicalcentric family. And my Mom absolutely adored Rod Stewart. I was born into the Do Ya Think I'm Sexy? era. What a life that man has lead! Just amazing. I need to get myself a ticket to see him live and now!
Have been a fan since I was a young boy, hearing my Dad play Mr. Stewart’s first album. When he released “Your In My Heart” in 77, his ode to his beloved Football team, as a football fan myself it solidified him as my fav singer/songwriter. We’ve seen him live several times and in the early 80’s my future wife and I were fortunate enough to meet him and say hello at a family friend’s restaurant in SF (House of Shields). He was a joy to meet even if it was just a couple seconds of pleasantries.
"But I've got an amazing talent and you haven't" - Brit wit! 1st concert ever, 17-years old, Rory Gallagher intro for "Rod Stewart & the Faces" - Tucson Community Center, 1973. I had listened and loved their albums in high school - what a force, saying it all to the youth of the 60's & 70's! Love swing and always hoping for it's comeback.
It took me a few years to really get into Rod Stewart. To parapharase Seinfeld's Library Cop "Glam Rock was never my bag." Today, I can now name my top five favorite Rod songs in an instant. 1. Mandolin Wind 2. Maggie May 3. You Wear It Well 4. Rhythm of My Heart (Thank you, Ted Danson's movie Loch Ness.) 5. We Can Win There are so many others. As for Jools Holland, in addition to being a remarkable piano player who clearly loves the old Boogie Woogie style of playing, his BBC show Later With.... is responsible for some of my favorite live TV performances. Some of the best moments are when, as one performer is at work, the camera cuts to the other performers singing along, dancing along to, or just looking at awe. For example, Joe Strummer singing along to Warren Zevon, or when Barry Gibb had the entire room in his hand rocking out to Jive Talkin. Jools himself has had some awesome performances, as lead or backup. I hope this project will introduce new generations to him.
I’ve loved Rod since I was a teenager and have been to an innumerable number of his concerts. When I was 18 and going on a European tour with 40 other graduating seniors from my high school, the main downside was that I had to miss one of his concerts. I’ve lived in Palos Verdes most of my life, and I have friends and acquaintances who’ve played “football” with him here many times or have seen him at Hennessy's in the Riviera in Redondo Beach, and I have NEVER had the pleasure. I even was a good friend of a woman whose stepdaughter was his personal assistant in the “aughts,” and I still couldn’t meet him! No one ever will replace Rod in my “heart and soul!” Plus, my dad also built model trains and layouts, all from scratch.
An interviewer's job is to ask questions that people would want to know. It's not personal. Obviously, the interviewer himself is near or past retirement age! ;-)
“Maggie May” an iconic song for those early 70’s rock songs, dating the girl whom would become your wife 52 years later and still not slowing down either.. enjoy trains & modeling those kits
I hear Louis Prima in his voice with this recording. He has always been great in his many manifestations. Atlantic Crossing (slow side) probably is my favorite, though it’s all good.
I love the fact he was one of those unexpected (by many) survivors in this industry. He continues to stay true to himself while also reinventing his sound. He has so smoothly moved from one genre to another. I'm actually looking forward to this album.
I was hooked the first time I heard Rod Stewart sing in the late 1960s. His voice was unlike anyone else - raspy & rough but with a signature style. Those early albums bring back great memories.
I've never been a fan of his past music, but he seems like a extremely likeable guy.... And his voice does seem really suited for doing the 1950s Louis Prima type stuff
Love this man all my life he is just amazing that’s my Sir ROD that’s my ❤❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️💚💚💚💚💚💚⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️🍀🙏🏻 until the day I die he is the best of the best
Rod's voice a shadow of itself today (first clip is him singing to his record) but God that first album 'Every Picture Tells A Story' (with Faces bandmate Ron Wood), title track, Mandolin Wind, You Wear It Well, etc. the brandy-marinated soul voice, absolutely sensational. Timeless. Later Stones take-offs "Do Ya Think I'm Sexy?" and "Hot Legs" and "Infatuation" with Beck and "Love Touch" from Legal Eagles nice too. Jools Holland a good curator of these guys. The Rutles may have been bigger than Rod but stay Forever Young Mr. Stewart!! 🎉❤🎉
A really great guy, Sir Rodney, seniors are invited to stand up and swing it some more because.. music is regenerating, music is healthy and positive, music is the best pain killer anti stress medication above all. Eternal gratitude gorgeous performers that made of our lives a better place, wishing them never get tired having fun cheer us up and singing along...no matter what to the last breath. I love to use web connection and encourage them all because. ..invisible supporters like me have no chances to reach the celebrities universe where ...lucky sons are born already famous. Life is cruel forcing us to do things we do not want to do, therefore I trully wish music stars sons...go for it kids, think about me and help me carry on my vengeance and all those who have no voice to speak up, we need a world of freedom of expression.. otherwise, what an annoying planet of dummies and lifeless puppets on strings huh? These vintage music stars remind us the ages when...mostly in UK there were music happenings every corner of the street, it seemed that people have nothing to do but having fun all the time, and there was plenty of room for all of them, still today, from Led Zeppelin to Tom Jones there's plenty of room in our hearts for all of them and we love them of a lifetime by now and we never have enough of them ❤🎉❤
No one mentioned that 'Sailing' was a cover. Originally done by Sutherland Brothers & Quiver. Rod's a great singer and performer, yes. But how about attribution, please? Merci.
FAABULOUS ... all the way round the track, if you know what I mean? I must share with my Swedish pal, OLLE BERGGREN who actually personally knows Rod and he'll be fully amused as well, I am sure. THANKS cbs - best show evaH. M Sophia Santiago in Costa DeL SoL, SPAIN .
He does have that ability to make it feel like just a conversation between him and his subject, but an intimate one. I think he makes the people he interviews very comfortable, like it's not an "interview", which is huge. Have you noticed his tone of voice is often quieter, like "we're sharing private information now" and he always looks the person square in the eye. He is a very good journalist, for sure.
Oh dear. I was liking him until he quipped, "I have an amazing talent, and you don't!" And laughed. You know there's always a bit of truth in those kind of statements. But, wth, how many people who've filled stadiums are humble? A few, perhaps, but the majority? On another note, I'd really enjoy seeing more of both their train layouts! So detailed...

what a dork, from playing with Steampacket in the mid 60's to the Jeff beck group in the late 60's and on to the Faces and a couple good EARLY solo albums, he's found a new niche. Wasnt the American Song Book bad enough, now this. go jump in your 4 million dollar ferrari and head to the nearest soccer or as you Brits call it football field and join one of the teams of aging ex rock geezers.
Rod Stewart is long overdue for his Kennedy center honors for his contributions to American culture. Agreed!
I was just thinking that when I saw this!!!!!
Sir Rod you’re really a wonderful person!! ❤Maria

he was the best part, you dont expect the dopes at CBS to know that. Jools is a great Boogie Woogie pianist.
Definetly no Q's: Jools injected some of the finest moments during the squeeze early yrs.

Love Rod! Saw him in concert years ago and for 2 1/2 hours he sang, jumped and proved he's a brilliant showman.
Personally, I think this feature sells Jools a little short! He is an accomplished musician and presenter in his own right!
Yeh but nobody knows him in America., That’s what the Yanks are like.
It is great to see Rod Stewart branch out into different genres of music. I will enjoy listening to this musical collaboration.
Jools deserves more credits then he's getting. This man has his own show and everything. He's the most talented piano player I've ever seen. Rod couldn't have made this album without Jools.🙌
His Hits are what I sang growing up He is Truly a National Treasure God Bless Him!😘
I love seeing Jools Holland in the limelight! Love me some Squeeze!

Already got my copy from my girlfriend Katie Couric!!! JK about that last part. I wish. BUT I got mine from the public library. Much obliged!!!
I just love Rod Stewart. I love him more now that I know about his model trains.
Taking nothing away from Sir Rod, but you needed to give a little more credit to Jools Holland for this album. He is a great producer and arranger, as well as an amazing piano player. I’m listening as much for the band on these recordings as I am to Rod's vocals.

for myself, I'd add "The First Cut is the Deepest".
Love Rod Stewart. Listened to his music from the beginning. This segment was NOT long enough!
I’ve loved Rod since I was a teenager and have been to an innumerable number of his concerts. Stop asking people when they're going to retire. You're basically telling them they should give up already.
An interviewer's job is to ask questions that people would want to know. It's not personal. Obviously, the interviewer himself is near or past retirement age! ;-)
If people are gullible enough to buy tickets to watch a 79 year old, why would they stop?
He can’t do studio. But crowds feed his soul.

This makes me a very happy man.

The music 🎶 World 🌎 would be awful 😞 without you Rod Stewart
I've never been a fan of his past music, but he seems like a extremely likeable guy.... And his voice does seem really suited for doing the 1950s Louis Prima type stuff
My mom loved him as much as i do ❤
I love Sir Rod Stewart's songs and he gives so much joy with his concerts.🙂👋👏💞💖💯🥇
as fun an interview as the guy still is! Bravo!
I like his old music. It is great that he can sing different kinds of music. It is amazing that he is still wanting to make music.
Rod is a great talent and has such a nice hobby with his beautiful train set

Love swing era music.
"Jools, do you want to come over and lay down some tracks?"
"Yes, shall I bring my piano?"
"No, a box of Hornby"
I never knew old peoples homes were so jolly.
Especially when they are multi-millionaires!
Love Rod Stewart! 💕💕 Such a great entertainer!
I love Rod Stewart!!

This isn't exactly Rod's first 'American Songbook' He put FOUR cds of the Great American Songbook and did a smashing job of it too.

Please do a segment on Rods Model trains
Just my opinion... should get rid of the wart....😊..He has recorded 2 albums of standards ... already ...but this sounds soooo much better.....
Jools Holland was the real talent in this segment.
Rod is a Boomer, and Boomers don't just rock, we roll!
And use words like "boomer"
Jools is a talent.
No one mentioned that 'Sailing' was a cover. Originally done by Sutherland Brothers & Quiver. Rod's a great singer and performer, yes. But how about attribution, please? Merci.
Ask Rod why he played Sun City.

Great segment, but Anthony Mason's interview style and skills were sorely missed.
He does have that ability to make it feel like just a conversation between him and his subject, but an intimate one. HA HA he's a pseudo rock expert.
Ron, check his lay out.
Concerts at old train stations?
Oh dear. I was liking him until he quipped, "I have an amazing talent, and you don't!" And laughed. You know there's always a bit of truth in those kind of statements. This makes me think @youngsheldon episode could of happen
He should thank MR LOUIE PRIMA ...
I love rock and pop Rod and I love standards . However, Rod and the standards don't do it for me.
I thought this reporter was a tad rude and a little resentful.
