Yes so worth it😊👍... and I’ve planted many of those bog plants rhizomes along the exposed liner of my pond (covering and beautifying it!)... I hope to put out a video of how I created the other planting section along the exposed liner! Have a great day!
Super helpful seeing what the maintenance of a bog filter is. Beats checking the chlorine level in a pool often though right? Did you add soil to this gravel? It looks like there is a level of earth or mud on top of the pea gravel. Sorry if you covered that in another video.
Oh awesome!!😃👍… totally beats dealing and swimming in chemicals!! My word!!😊👍… yes over time organic material like sludge will accumulate on the top of some of the pea gravel you can either vacuum or scrape off👍
Seems like it could be worthwhile to wrap the PVC output pipe in landscaping fabric, or some other root barrier. In any case, thank you for sharing - this & your other videos are fantastic resources!
Great idea! ... but I wish there was a fabric that wouldn’t filter out the small fish waste that goes into the bog from the main pond! I just wouldn’t want to filter the fish waste ammonia from getting into the bog and completing the cleaning cycle. I would rather have the plants clean out the ammonia rather than me constantly taking out and cleaning the landscape fabric. And I don’t know but I think those rhizomes could penetrate those fabrics... atleast the fabrics I’ve seen and had. Thank you very much for the input and ideas!!👍
Really enjoying your channel!! Any chance you have a video on “the components of a natural swimming pond”? Such as, the “bog” the swimming area, etc, other key areas we should know about before we install? In sunny NC and don’t have a lot of shade yet in my pond area! Looking forward to learning so much more from your channel!! Thanks!
Oh how awesome! Thank you so much😊👍... the initial video I made in the pond series (the overview one) covers the basic components👍. Oh thats so cool yaall are planning your pond out!! Yes if no natural shade from overhead trees then There’s other options! Some options are putting up sun shade sails, another is having water plants like water lettuce or lillies that rest on top of the waters surface creating shade for the water and protection from predators ( but loosing out on swimming space), another is pond dyes that state they are fish and environment safe as they darken the water. I have put a planting fish net mesh around my liner and have been planting bog plants along the edge which has been giving me more filtration and eventually some shade coverage ( hopefully can do a video on it sometime soon). Anyways there’s options👍
So I have never needed to clean the inside of my pipes out so far. But if and when I do, on each of the three 10 foot pipes I have a “clean out” end where I would just unscrew the end cap and have my 7,000 gph water pump force the water and the junk out of the pipes through those ends. The majority of the water will take the path of least resistence and come out the 2” end openings and not as much out of the small slits I created along the 10’ piping. That’s the plan if I do👍
Yes I have been creating a series on the specifics of the DIY natural swimming pond build... the first video is an overview video of the complete build (with the bog filter setup) and my next specific more detailed video I’m working on now is how to create the bog filter with more details and tips. I hope it helps!
I actually have pink china Taro growing and propagating in the bog right now! It is just dormant currently but come spring time it should be producing quite a bit! It was one of the first set of plants I put in the bog filter... Beautiful plant that reminds me of elephant ear👍
Hi, can you tell me the width and length of just your pond please. I am making one myself and it is 30'x50'. I have been watching your videos which are great and in one you said it was 25'x50' I think but yours looks much longer than mine. Thank you and God Bless
Thank you so much! Yes your are right… about 25x50’👍… maybe it’s the camera angle😊…I think my liner I purchased was 70x28 or 29… and that includes my bog filter. Plus I have my perimeter and floating planters for more “bog” like filtration👍
I would put the slits in the bottom of the pipe, it will slow down the water even more. Great video! Thank you
Thank you for the comment! I put mine on top so I can inspect and clean out the plant roots easier. 👍
Fantastic information. Many thanks!
So glad some of it can be useful!!👍👍😊
Wow big job 😃 but so worth it

Love the pictures at the End Results section!!!!
Great!! Thank you! Yes all usable leftovers... longhorn/goat food or compost with the rhizomes and seeds saved for future many uses!👍

That would clog the system sadly
Almost missed the update! Thanks highly appreciated, cool video!

I want to see how you clean the inside of pipes

Do you have video how to make the big pond including filter system

Do you plan on growing any Taro??
