Lecture 29 Recycle with Reaction: Which Balance to Use?

This video explains how to perform material balance on reactive systems involving recycle. In the last video, extent of reaction was used to solve recycle problem. Over here, problem was solved using atomic species balance. Further it was emphasized that one has to take atomic species balance or use extent of reaction only when the system over which balance is taken contains a reactor. For subsystems such as mixing point, spitting point, separator etc, where no reaction takes place, one can safely take molecular species balance. This point was explained with the help of a numerical taken from the textbook by Felder.
