That dash looks so dope and retro futuristic because it uses Vacuum Fluorescent displays, a technology we should've appreciated more while it was more widely used. VFDs look so much better than modern LCDs yet most people gave up the their superior contrast and delicate glow for boring full color LCDs since :(

Plenty of exotics, old model A's and Model T's and 1 very special 1986 Nissan 300ZX Turbo in sky blue with less than 10k miles on it just like this one. I used to drive our family 1986 Nissan/Datsun (the car had both emblems!) Maxima station wagon as a teen, and I was so proud that my car talks while my friends’ newer cars didn’t. Hop in the car, put the key in ignition, have it tell you, “The key is in ignition,” - and we were off! God, I loved that car to bits (with all the rust, it was kinda falling to bits around the edges😂)
When I was little, we took that car (purchased as used car) on a family cross-continental road trip from Ohio to LA and back. It never complained once during the whole trip, and never complained while we had it.
One cold winter’s day, the car wouldn’t start, and my dad decided to finally part ways with the vehicle because the very simple repair was far above the car’s base value at that point. I still regret we made that decision. I miss my Maxim.

Yes, my mom's 1985 Maxima had the robot voice. Mom only fills the gas tank when the needle is just barely above "E." As a result, she usually only refueled the Max when the robot told her to.

I had one of these; used it for daily driver and trips. Fantastic electric adjustable seats, and it would cruise at any speed you'd set it on. On well known Interstates, just set in on 100 mph and let the car take you there in a few hours. It was a very comfortable car!

Seriously. These “infotainment” centers where you have to scroll through 13 menus of what will become a 25” screen just to adjust your seat belt just seems needlessly-futuristic to the point of boredom. Imagine if sci-fi movies about traveling through space were a guy sitting in a white room with no windows or controls and just a touchscreen, typing in a destination and sitting there. That’s where this is heading; this car I look at and feel hopeful somehow.

I had a friend with an 85 Maxima that talked we didn't know until we replaced a blown fuse with the door open. We tracked down the source and it is a small tape recorder that cues itself to the track it needs to play the recorded voice on, the bell chime is an actual physical chime located in the glove box complete with mechanical striker.
