I purchased one of these through a local auction house. I paid about $800. Didn't think I would need it much until we had a wind storm bring down 5 large tree. I ran the chipper for 5 full days chipping the branches. The chipper worked great, BUT, make sure you have extra shear bolts handy if you are doing large branches. We ended up have lots of chips for the chicken yard and a cleaned up yard. The plastic part for the chute is indeed a two piece part. I have not had any problems with the chute. Keep in mind small stuff can clog up the chute unless you run something large to clear stuff out from time to time. it will not chip green corn stalks, tried that for cow feed, but no go.
I've run my chipper about 8 hours now and I'm very happy with it, it cuts green wood with leaves just fine. I noticed the discharge chute is loose and will not lock into a fixed position. I took the chute apart to learn the plastic gasket is broken and the top part of the chute is larger than the main chipper body. I'm using a bungee to hold it for now, do you have any experience with solving this issue?
I have not used mine much still. I have plenty to do with, just more important things to do. Are you having problems with the rotater? I can look at mine and report back.
I am having problems with the discharge chute not staying place. It appears the chute is larger than the chipper, it sloppy and the chute can be moved with the locking pin in position. Take a look at yours and confirm it fits well and locks solidly into place. Thank you!
The rubber piece is just an insulator so the chute doesn't rattle. If yours is like mine, it doesn't matter if the top is bigger than the bottom. There are holes in the bottom portion for the pin to lock into. There is a spring on the pin that holds it in place. Maybe your spring is missing? I hope this helps. If not I can make a quick video of what mine looks like.
the chute is larger than the chipper on purpose. the plastic piece is supposed to be in 2 pieces. When I assembled mine, I put that plastic piece directly under the discharge chute, but after watching a couple videos on the Farmers Helper version, that plastic piece is supposed to go underneath, and you'll need to grease in between the chute and the machine. I've got to take mine apart and switch that plastic bushing and I feel like that will fix the 'sloppy' feel of it
You say in the video that the chipped material that comes out is not suitable for mulch, but making mulch is the main reason I want a chipper. Is that because it is too small, so will disintegrate too quickly? Before a growing season is done, you think?
Yes, that material is too thin and rots quickly. In my opinion is not a good looking mulch, it is really chips. It should last a growing season, but it will probably make your soil more acidic.
Thanks for the video review. I Just purchased the same chipper today and paid $1250.00. Is that somewhat close to what you saw when you purchased. Looking forward to using it after I get the cutting blades hardened. I'd love to see another video of it in use.
I think that is what they were going for. I have been wanting to use it but it has been so rainy this year. It seems like it rains every day or every other day. I have been real busy with work, then trying to keep the grass mowed it has been tough to anything extra. I'll try to get another video up of it soon.
How is the chipper doing? I see it’s for sale for a little less than $1100 on Titan with shipping. Awfully hard to pass up- except with no self feed function. 6” is $1800- I have more wood to burn than I need. Don’t need to burn but so much in N.C. winters & have a lot could clean up by using one. Do you think a hydraulic feeder would be a lot easier? (-around 40 acres to use it on).
It is doing fine, but it has not been used much. There is not much to these chippers that can go wrong. They do self feed, unless there is a branch that catches on the side, ie. a 2'' branch that is forked will either need cut at fork or pushed by hand through the chipper. The BX62 in my opinion would be better with the larger opening for that reason, if you have the tractor to handle it. A hydraulic feed would be better, but they are way more money. I would make a bunch of piles on your land, and rent a pull behind hydraulic chipper to clean it up. Then get a BX62 to maintain it. If you do purchase a chipper, please use the link in the video description. It helps my channel.
+frank hartwig I think there are multiplied Chinese manufacturers making them. If go on eBay and search BX42S chipper a half a dozen come up. There is one for $1200 now. I think Titan attachments also sells them.
Nice Bullitt! The actual chipping action is really quiet compared to some other PTO chippers I've seen. Thanks for the video. I've been window shopping for quite some time but haven't pulled the trigger to purchase one yet. I was wondering if you had a chipper. I was going to ask you sometime back. Thanks again and I wish you and all viewers a great Thanksgiving. Be safe.
Have you had any issue with it clogging up? We got one and every time a twig will get by the chipper blades and stops the wood from blowing by. Cannot figure why but it makes no sense. Kevin
No, I have not had any issues with it clogging, but it has not been used much yet. Is yours a clone? I think the clearance between the rotor and stationary blades may be excessive. It is supposed to be 1/32'' to 1/16''. It probably would be easiest to set with a feeler gauge. Here is the procedure on page 21. fieldmaster.co.nz/wp-content/uploads/PTO-Woodchipper-VC-40.pdf Let me know what you find out.
I will need to try that out and see if it helps. I hope it does because I have a lot of brush that was piled all around the property to try to clear out.
Did you consider a gas-powered chipper before buying? It's really surprising how well the 6.5hp Yardmax, Bearcat and DR chippers can swallow 1-2" branches, and they make finer chips than your PTO unit. I'm thinking about a PTO unit to run off my Mahindra 40hp tractor, but between the extra $700-800 and adding hours on my tractor, it seems tough to justify. I suppose if you're doing serious chipping (20+ trees) it may be worth it.
No, I did not consider a gas powered chipper for a few reasons. A gas powered chipper cost more and has less capacity. Gas powered chippers are ususally only towable. With the 3PH unit I can get into some tight places or go over rough terrain. A PTO unit requires less maintenance. I'm not that worried about putting hours on the tractor, that is why I have it. I'll probably only put 10-20 hours a year on the chipper anyway.
I'll add in something, I bought the PTO chipper just like this one instead of a tow behind because I didn't want another motor to maintain. also, like he said, those are good for 1 to 2 inch limbs, I'm doing up to 3 or 3 1/2" stuff
Thanks for making this video. I'm surprised these are available for sale. I'd have thought Wallenstein would have shut these down hard. It's one thing to clone a chipper (if indeed this even is a Wallenstein clone), but quite another to use the same model number and sticker design. I've seen these for sale all over the place but just won't buy one on principle.
I'm not sure "the Chinese" generally would have cared to wait until Wallenstein stopped making the chipper before starting to clone it, unless you're implying an agreement between them and Wallenstein. I also discovered Walco chippers yesterday, based in Elmira ON, 15km away from Wallenstein in St. Clements. They use a similar sticker design so it does seem like there might be a story behind this. I also just noticed that your sticker is oval. The ones I've seen for sale around here have a triangular sticker, albeit without the white border like Wallenstein had and Walco has. Interesting. Well, I'm done playing sleuth, and back to deciding between a used Wallenstein or a new Woodland Mills.
Nice video looks like a nice light duty chipper like to get one but i try to burn most of the tree it all makes heat ! LOL take it ezy and have a happy thanksgiving ! Kioti Curt :-)
Thanks. It is a nice match for small tractors. I cut everything down to about 3.'' I thought I had better show a larger piece in the video. Have happy Thanksgiving.
My buddy had the same issue until he checked the knife clearance. It’s supposed to be 1/32” and his was way more than that. Once adjusted, it does fine on green stuff, just don’t try to feed to fast and mix in some bigger sticks with the green. I have one of these I bought from Beststco (sp?) and it works great behind my BX22.

Mine came from an auction too. Maybe they came from the same one. This one was in PA. I've clogged it a couple of times. The one time was with pine.

@@billburkhart I just bought one....same problem (made in China should give you a clue).

Your tractor seems to go well with this chipper! Definitely has power to chip your selected tree limbs!
Yes, it does. Anything larger would be firewood.

Did you have to trim/cut the PTO shaft to fit?
What is the hp on your tractor?
23 engine
17.7 PTO
@@TractorTech Thanks, mine in a Yanmar sa 221 . Been looking a chippers. I know hp is important..

Nice video, looks like a pretty good light duty chipper. What's the PTO hp on the bota?
It is a perfect match for a subcompact or small compact. The BX is 17.7 PTOHP.

I had the Wallen stein chipper bx42 and could not get it to work on green material so I sold it
I'm not for sure, but I think you can adjust the rotor forward and backwards to help it feed.
