I was once homeless and unemployed. I'm now employed and have a roof over my head. When I have a bad day at work I listen to this song. It improves my work performance and reminded of what happens when you are unemployed. I love this song because it is a message and not just a song.
I worked in a steel mill the nights were long and hard but not when I would heard this song.(on eight tract player )GOD it was long ago such memories!!!
Man you guys hit it. Driving the bus and dealing with everything imaginable out there 8-10 hours a day. Making that living to pay the bills. We gotta be a Blue Collar Man!!!!🤘🏻
Dude. That’s amazing! I had free room while I was grinding to get on my feet. It still can be done in America. If you’re immigrant though, you gotta learn English. Take one day for rest and hit local library. You work your a$$ off, you will do well, and all real Americans will respect you for it, no matter race or origin. Some will even lend a bit of hand out of respect.
im a electrician. I own my own business and work for a large solar contractor. I work 50 hrs a week and drive 2 hours each way to the jobsite. This is a great song.
I feel you diet coke.. i have a similar situation in San antonio..just actually read the lyrics and paid attention to the words because my wife says this song reminds her of me. Totally blessed and motivation on 100!
If everyone would appreciate his work and spread good spirit at work world would be a better place to be. I say if you're not happy after a day at work, quit and find something you'll be proud of because you're doing it the best you can in a honorable way. Don't remain and make your coworker's lifes miserable because of your bad attitude.
Blue collar keeps the world turning. Never doubt that. We wouldn’t have the things we do without the blue collar guys & gals. To me, there is no better feeling than coming home tired because I made something with my hands.
This song inspires a man to become self-sufficient and not to be dependent to others. It always gives me a ring (bell) to do my best for my job - as a blue collar man. Tnx for the inspirario. Mr. Tommy Shaw did write a great songs 🎶for the great Band - STYX forver favorite band. ♥️♥️♥️👋👋👋👍👍👍
This is a rockin' song! This song was written at a time when it was depressing on the economy back in the 70's. Now, this song has come full circle because it can be used for what's going on today. A struggling economy, layoffs, and lost hope. This is one of my favorite songs by Styx.
Jig, why does it break you? It makes me feel better to know I am not, and have not ever been the only way that feels this way. I have been unemployed since Feb. The lyrics of this popped in my head when someone tried to give me money "Not a charity case" so I came to look it up. Thanks for posting this werner, I needed this right now.
i have a corporate job and i have so much respect for the working class..i only wish people would have more humanity towards them..and have more understanding..in fact if i could play the guitar so well, this would be my no 1 song to play at a corporate office party
I Have a hearing deficiency where I cant often hear most of the lyrics but loved this song for many many years, Just recently got this one with the words and nowif it's even possible to improve on This truly great song I like it even more
Another song that reminds me of Hard Times with Charles Bronson. What goes better with it, this or Play The Game Tonight by Kansas (I hope someone else here saw that movie)?
...........still in the unemployment line, due to the International Monetary Fund/Russian Federation/European Union austerity measures, who established debtocracy in the place I live, greece, the land of eternal political corruption. Yet,I stand proud against the rich of this world and their all time loyal servants, the politicians. I 'll always be a blue collar man,and will always belong to the social class of the many, till the final eradication of the few (and wealthy) ones. LONG LIVE ANARCHY.
This song th-cam.com/video/erSJGrpfnOI/w-d-xo.html would be a companion piece to Blue Collar Man. My father and grandfather both worked in the steel mills in Pittsburgh their whole lives, I remember as a kid sometimes the entire sky was orange because of the output from the smoke stacks of the steel mills. Both of these songs are like an anthem to me.
Well that's quite the broad statement, putting down people who simply have different opinions than you and I. Let's like this, and spread the philosiphical genius of seaturtle106
Employers of Las Vegas! I not looking to Sue you. Only Costco 563! And the big ones who have destroyed my life. That doesn’t mean if they harass me I won’t say something! Have a heart Man! I am a kick ass bartender!
Willowville I honestly think when he said "keeping my eye on the key hole" In my opinion I think he mean looking for an opportunity or something like that, forgive me if I'm wrong though
I think that what he is implying is that the man in the song was looking for the keys to success and decided the best way to do so was to put his nose to the grindstone. That's my opinion though, it's music man whatever you decide it means is what it means. It was only created to give people enjoyment and make the band some money while doing what they loved. Hope everyone here has a nice day also this is the best Styx song lol
Way back in olden times door locks had a key hole that you could peek through. He is looking through the key hole to see the people in the other room living a better life, and by grinding out a living he hopes to achieve that better life.
I thought I was the only one that remember this from big daddy Mr. Herlihy why don't shut the hell up before I throw you through the window like last week. Last week was a fluke being on women hahaha so funny of a scene

Blue collar keeps the world turning. Never doubt that. We wouldn’t have the things we do without the blue collar guys & gals. To me, there is no better feeling than coming home tired because I made something with my hands.

I'm an Ironworker and this song wakes me up more than my XL coffee in the mornin'.
This is one of the best creations that Styx produced.

this song describes so many of us at one time or another........
i love the how he does the vocal octive fall and rise "where happiness is only a heartbeat away"
. how it drops low and right back to soprano
powerful and immense Tommy Shaw
Man, I love this song.
Saw this live about two months ago, Styx is still jsut as awesome today as they were back then.
This song is the perfect blend of hard rock and soft rock.
I would say it's in the middle of Metallica and oasis
And it's perfect.
Stupid comment but don't be sad you've got Metalloasis
46 years old and still a loyal listener of Styx!!!

Still jamming this in 2022. This song is highly motivational. I am to be a proud blue-collar man. All ready there, baby!
I heard this on the radio and instantly asked what the name of the song was
all who live in constant turmoil will know peace
I consider this the official Rock anthem of the organization of the United Brotherhood of Guys That Get Shit Done.
I wish to be a blue collar man, again. Shouldn't have cared about the stress of dishes, needed to help my uncle Phil but still.
YES!!!
So true

Just imagine how much better off our economy and society would be if more people on welfare/unemployment took this song to heart and lived it out.

Econ part 2
I have to admit, I don't really understand the line about keeping his eye in the keyhole. Might someone explain it to me?
Willowville I honestly think when he said "keeping my eye on the key hole" In my opinion I think he mean looking for an opportunity or something like that, forgive me if I'm wrong though
he is chasing a dream
I think that what he is implying is that the man in the song was looking for the keys to success and decided the best way to do so was to put his nose to the grindstone. It's referring to an open door is an opportunity for success and he's waiting on it to possibly open
Way back in olden times door locks had a key hole that you could peek through. He is looking through the key hole to see the people in the other room living a better life, and by grinding out a living he hopes to achieve that better life.
@Eric2827 I'm not even going to waste my time with someone who has to go back to grade 2 to learn how to spell.
Im great not superior.
do you think is the song somehow praising the U.S working class ?
no music during the game
I thought I was the only one that remember this from big daddy Mr. Herlihy why don't shut the hell up before I throw you through the window like last week. Last week was a fluke being on women hahaha so funny of a scene
eww 240p
Despite the fact that blue collar work now pays better than any fast food work. Just shows that no one likes to get their hands dirty anymore.
Trump kinda killed the message of this song huh? If you're unemployed, you're an effing bum.
This was me until I snapped. I had my last time in the unemployment line. Then I became a United States Marine. I will never be a charity case.
