Brilliant! Well executed pattern! Made three (so far!) - two exactly the same size as shown and the second one I cut the fabric at 30 inches long by 10 inches wide. Came out nice but think the flap is just a little too long, so next one I'll cut at 26 or 28 inches long. The 10 inch width is perfect. For the fold lines, I marked them 4 inches left and right of center and 4-3/4 inches left and right of center (approximately the same as in the original pattern). Used velcro strips approximately three-quarters the width of finished bag to secure the flap. Love using velcro. Used thick interfacing on one plain cotton material, thick interfacing on another slightly heavier cotton and no interfacing on upholstery fabric. My suggestion is only use thin interfacing or none. These are great bags to carry your phone, wallet, some makeup, tissue, etc. Many thanks for this wonderful pattern!
Thank you! I'm a musician and made one of these to store small items in my case. I'm also new to sewing stuff and this was very easy to put together, one of my first projects. I had to make a couple attempts at turning it inside out before I ended up with the right orientation, but it's pretty clever how it works.Clear, concise instructions without any unneeded commentary. Well done!!
I made one today and it turned out to be a great bag. I made the strap with the same material and put a pocket inside the back part so there is an extra pocket to put my cell phone separate from other things. Thanks for a great idea.
Hey brilliant idea about the inner pocket. I'm making one of these to store wireless headphones so a little pocket for the charger cable is a genius idea, thank you.
Super cute little bag! Thanks for the tutorial. As for the short flap or a different strap - the pattern can easily be altered. The tutorial shows the construction very well. Love it!
@@anisayakhina5408 sorry, I don´t speak Russian. If google translate is correct you asked which tutorial shows the construction - well, just watch the video. It shows everything in good detail. I was just complimenting on a video that is very good in my opinion.
This is so clever! I've never seen this method before! When you did the initial folds at 10 and 12cm...in my mind I pictured them forming card slots...the folds forming little pre-lined tucks for credit cards etc. That's how I felt they would turn out for some reason....and I thought oh that's clever, they're already lined in one step! Cool! BUT...when they actually formed a ready done square base, I was like....erm, wut? 😳 I did not see that coming at all! I think I'll make mine overall bigger...to use as a gift bag for toiletries for my friend, and not bother with the strap loops. Plus use a magnetic clasp and fit it on before assembling, so the prongs at the back of the clasp are hidden between the layers when sewed. I'll make it longer to start with also, so it will form a larger flap that will sit better when closed. I really love this method though! Very clever, I can't believe I've never seen anyone do this before! Totally not what I was expecting! That squared bottom is also much neater AND stronger as a base, than cutting squares off either side and then sewing across the folded corners, of both the inner lining and outer fabric - which is the most common way to square off the bottom of a bag. I'm so glad I watched this now! It's going to be perfect for what I have in mind! 😘😘😘
I've been sewing cosmetic bags that are cut 8.5 by 7 with a seven inch zipper. I also add a 12" ribbon folded ribbon ( 5.8ths side) . In order to turn the cosmetic bag into a wristlet for wallet. If I can find the video and get back to this comment, I'll add it here
Lot of concentration in the mind that for the outcome of each fold to a final end result. Same way today computer programming, it is absolutely your each action is written down and fed in the computer. It's forefather is Macro. Once you know how to write macro with your sequence of operations then your work is easy. This idea really a well thought out bag making with minimal stitching.
Hi, I managed to make a little bigger bag yesterday. Still have to add the stripe. Very clever design! Many have asked the final measurement, please, could you add them. Thanks!
Wonderful tutorial! I'm not fond of the short flap closure, but that's a personal preference... mainly because no matter how small or large a bag I have, I will inevitably wind up filling it to it's maximum capacity.

Thank you so much for the information, I'm sure this would help our viewers immensely, those who are trying to make it more better. I'm pinning it.
An easy pattern to follow - personally I’d make it bigger with a longer front flap, but this video gives a good starting point x
I second that, the flap is indeed small but nonetheless a nice pattern.
Love this! Boxed corners, lined, no raw edges and only one line of stitching! Amazing.

Great tutorial! Yes it is one seam all the way around, with 2 sewing lines on the strap tabs. I love how it comes together! Thanks for sharing!
You are so welcome! I appreciate your knowledge.
Very clever the way the bottom of the bag has been made.
