    My favorite theory about hostile aliens is that we'll never get a chance to fight them. They'll park out in the Oort cloud, aim several large objects from the cloud at Earth and wait for them to wipe out civilization. The few humans that survive would not have the resources to even mount a feeble defense.

      We can accelerate objects at orbital speeds (7 km /s), while an advanced civilisation could accelerate objects at the Galactic speeds (200 km/s).
      Being hit by something at that speed has undescribable effects; a good example would be the shot fired by Moff Tarkin's battlestation at Aldeeran...

    • @rjgoniea
      @rjgoniea 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@rayoflight62 Yes, they probably could fire something that fast. However if their goal is to capture the planet for its resources they're not going to fire something fast enough to obliterate the planet.* Several smaller, slower moving objects aimed at points around the globe would maximize fatalities without cataclysmic damage such as punching a hole through the earth's crust.
      *Imagine the commander of the mission reporting he destroyed the planet:
      Commander: Sir, we engaged operations at sector 8472 as ordered.
      Alien Leader: Excellent! How soon can we send our colony ships?
      C: Your excellency there might be a slight problem in that regard.
      AL: What kind of problem?
      C: Well sir, one of our junior technicians assigned to operate the mass drivers made a small mistake.
      AL: Define small 😡
      C: Instead of setting the driver speed to 20km/s, he accidently put in 200km/s
      AL: (angrily) So you're saying the target planet was..
      C: Obliterated, yes sir. There is now a second asteroid belt in that star system. Sir, It's not a total loss, there's lots of material recoverable from the debris!
      AL: Big deal! Our information on that planet said it had beautiful beaches on par with any in the galaxy! Now where am I going to hold the next intergalactic beauty pageant? I promised a new venue now I've got nothing!
      C: I don't know what to say sir other than I apologize for the actions of my team.
      AL: Consider this your resignation Commander. And I want that junior technician on the next ship to the garbage planet of sector 27.

    Most people think of contact happening in a similar way as Europeans meeting Indigenous peoples, but it’s probably more like how we interact with wild animals. You can watch videos right here on TH-cam of humans placing mirrors in the jungle to observe how animals react, or the animatronic gorillas placed among groups of gorillas. If there are aliens capable of interstellar travel they’d be so far advanced they’d relate, and interact with us in the same way we interact with so called wild animals. Just my opinion.

    Ask yourself this; if you were an alien, would there be any benefit gained by befriending the human race? Or is it more likely that once befriended, the humans will experience a technological golden age and afterwards try to wipe you out?
    We're vicious creatures, 9/10 times only into something for personal gain. Any sense of continuation of species is practicly non existent.
    We have quite a few things to learn and change before we can be of use to anyone, let alone some sort of galactic federation. As we are now, i'd say the chance of being contacted for the purpose of being buddies is next to 0. To me it's far more likely that incase we'd make contact we'd be wiped out, and we have no one to blame but ourselves.
    We could've been further into the future technology wise by now. We could've colonized planets by now, making us far less vulnerable for any nature based cataclysmic event. Yet here we are..
    If only we could set aside our differences for 150 years or so, we'd be fighting about who gets the nicest planet in a solar system. Not about how close nato is to russia's borders..

    • @jayb8934
      @jayb8934 2 ปีที่แล้ว +51

      They might see it kind of like domesticating and adopting a wild animal. They could even be entirely altruistic and make contact solely to teach us how to be better.

      @purpleshaft234 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Everything that makes humans "bad": the violence, the expansionism, etc, is why we're here in the first place. Are basically the "survival skills" that made us the top species from our planet
      And most certainly are the one that made the aliens the dominant species from their planet
      We would be equal

    • @jayb8934
      @jayb8934 2 ปีที่แล้ว +37

      @@purpleshaft234 Except, clearly they will be far more technologically advanced if they are able to reach us. Also, while those traits did allow us to survive and become the dominant species on Earth, now that we have no competition other than ourselves, those traits have become largely self-destructive. An older civilization may very well have learned to advance beyond them. Today our survival depends far more on cooperation than aggression, and a civilization that has lasted long enough to achieve interstellar travel will likely have realized this too.

Prior attempts to eradicate the invasive species proved unsuccessful by the galactic confederation (ALL HAIL!). If I could come up with so many ways of killing humanity/the planet without ever making contact, how much more ways can an advanced alien civilization come up with? I would be sorely disappointed if they did a Mars Attacks/Independence Day style invasion. Do a fly by and go about your day if you want to eliminate the threat.

      There is an inherent flaw in your theory: If the aliens didn't need anything from us why would they show up here? Besides, what Earthbound civilization didn't find something desirable among the possessions of a primitive society? It could be water, minerals, genetic material, some rare element not ubiquitous in the rest of the universe or they may just be incredibly curious. To a certain extent I agree that our history wouldn't be a great help in analyzing the actions, motivations or needs of an alien race or how we should react under those circumstances. However, their true needs, motivations and attitudes would probably be so inconceivable, so cryptic and so bizarre that figuring out what they want, why they're here or how to communicate with them would be a possibly insurmountable problem. They could have a history, physiology and motivation that would be so far outside our experience that even communication would be impossible. Who can even try to predict anything about an alien encounter?

    I think the only way that we would stand any chance against aliens in a fight would be two scenarios. One being that they have evolved beyond the point of physical violence in their culture, so much so that they don't even consider threats of violence anymore since they have been so far removed from it themselves. The other possibility would be kind of the opposite, where their weaponry is so advanced that all of their defenses are designed to defend against super high tech weapons, but may be susceptible to our 'primitive weapons'. Something like their defenses are all based on defending from electromagnetic or plasma weaponry etc. but despite doing that well, it ends up actually being susceptible to our dumb weapons that primitively just shoot pieces of metal at each other. Kind of like in the Dune universe where the shields evolved so much that guns were rendered basically useless, but the shielding ended up being susceptible to a simple knife.

      I don't think the second scenario is practical. Let's say our weapons are somewhat effective against their defenses. But that doesn't make their weapons any less stronger. We would shoot one missible and by the time it hits one of their fighter jets, five of ours would be knocked down. So 15 of their fighter jets can take out the entire Royal Air Force. And since they are so much advanced they might even be able to repair their damaged vehicles within few hours if not minutes. So we are doomed anyways. And remember if we can build biochemical weapons, they can build way more deadlier thing than that which may end all life forms within few days.

    • @teedteed9130
      @teedteed9130 ปีที่แล้ว

      Any species that gets that far ahead in technology will of course have written history. They would know what ballistic weapons are and can probably see what kinda weapons we're packing to counter it. Your assumption is that a highly advanced species is somehow stupider than our modern military command. I just don't see how a species would travel countless light-years just to show up and go whoops we have no defense against a missile.

      Nothing is beating Aliens. I see a video of it fly away , nothing moves that fast in decades to come. This thing was so fast you only see it disappear but the clouds parted . There's been footage even A Navy Destroyer came in contact with one. They didn't attack or anything they know better. But this ufo went straight under water then shot out at the speed of light into space. Also if you search you will see UFOs would hover over Nuclear sites and control everything. They can launch and stop the launch of Missiles. The guy working said he could not stop the launch. But miraculously the ufo stopped it. If it is Aliens , they know everything about us . And the reality is they have full control and power over us already. I doubt even a nuclear missile would destroy a spaceship !! The technology they must have is unimaginable!! I believe most of these weapons created are from Alien weapons. Ill never forget a contractor who worked at Area 51 . Said he came in contact with 3 still alive and shot at them. One he said Zapped him and the laser cut him in half. Somehow he survived, even Doctors said that whatever did it is not from this planet or anything they ever seen. A week later he committed suicide. After touching the Alien he said he could see earth the way they see it . And he got the knowledge of everything. He couldn't take it and no one believed him , so he jumped out the window. I believe he was killed .

Now, imagine there are aliens, and their intellect gap with us, the disparity could be equal to the human/chimp gap, or, hundreds of times greater. Imagine the technology available to them, I wonder if we could ever grasp how it works, even if they took the time to explain it to us.
      This topic is equally fascinating, as it is frightening. Hopefully, they think we're more than just walking plumbing with violent tendencies.

      That's why we should put some effort into being out there first with the most. If there are no aliens, great, more planets for us. If there are, well, we get to at least meet them on less unequal terms, far from here, without any obvious stuff telling them where Earth is located. No matter how many ships vanish over the western ocean, it's always better to invent them and send them out than to sit around and wait for someone to show up from the other side.

      Perhaps we are the first planet with life they have ever seen, and perhaps they thought they were all alone, just cruising around looking for a nice spot to chill.

  • @Handsomeanthony68

    Two things.
    1. Why would hostile aliens be the more likely scenario? Earth has nothing that’s worth going to war and wiping out an “intelligent” species over. If anything, it seems more likely to me that they’d be scientists that would want to study a primitive species like us, not unlike how we attempt to leave animals alone to study them in their natural habitat.

      Hostile aliens would be the most likely scenario because we have a rich planet full of goodies anyone could use, and also because it's very unlikely that aliens would travel sooooooo far to get here to try to make friends. Especially after they meet us. The likeliest scenario is that they'd come here for resources or to steal our planet, both would probably mean war which would indeed make them hostile.

      There just aren't likely to be herds of aliens that historically were prey on their own world.

      @@mehere8038 This is a possibility, but it would involve them understanding our biology and understanding our understanding of biology, so that they could create a method that we couldn't circumvent. The invading aliens might have very different physiology to us, they might not be carbon-based, so the weapons they potentially developed against their own kind, may be ineffective against us. They might have even abandoned their original biology or even abandoned biology entirely. If the aliens are no longer biological - having created synthetic bodies/avatars for themselves, their technological skill may be sufficient that they could wipe us out with nanites - these would would be infinitely better than any pathogen as they could be smart, targetable, self-replicating and would not harm the invaders or any other biological life on the planet that they wanted to keep.

    They probably know that making contact in a peaceful way and not cause huge drama to unfold among us would be extremely difficult, so they are trying to find out a way to come in peace without causing mass hysteria. A life form that could travel through space, would be smart enough to know those basic principles of a society. They know were here. It would be a very narrow minded thing to think that were alone in a universe of a trillion trillion planets.

    • @mehere8038

      They could easily make contact in a much more peaceful way than is shown here! Maybe send us a message before even leaving their home planet & asking if they can visit? or coming in a clocked ship & landing at area 51 or wherever & communicating directly with leaders to co-ordinate the reveal of their presence, via government authorities, potentially with gifts given, such as carbon capture machines that would reverse climate change instantly, so as to prove to the people that they come in peace
