      True. The Boxing is actually comical. The hits “Rocky” took to the face and absolutely after the 2nd knockdown if not way before, would have been stopped TKO!

      I understand why people say this... But it is a boxing movie. It has more to it than just boxing because it's a movie. It's like saying Mighty Ducks isn't a hockey movie. Or John Wick isn't an action movie. They all are, but it's just the underlying structure to tell a broader story.

      In all seriousness, Sylvester Stallone is one of the most under-rated actors of his generation. Obviously, a lot of his roles don't give him much chance to show it, but when he does have the chance, he's terrific.

    • @BalokLives
      @BalokLives 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@stormdavis3178 They say he can't act because of all the Yo Adrian and slurring. He was playing the part that he created. That sort of changed as the series progressed, but it was his vision. But in interview after interview Sylvester Stallone shows that he is an extremely intelligent man. He wrote, directed, and acted in most of the Rocky series, and in my opinion, Irwin Winkler should be ashamed of himself and turn over ownership of Rocky to its creator. He's a great actor and American.

    One of the details I always loved in this movie is at the end of the fight it is Apollo that hands Rocky the prize and raises his arm in celebration. Apollo set himself up as the "bad" guy to have a rematch I always believe it was because deep down he didn't believe he won the fight and he needed to know, but at the end he knew for sure that he had lost to Rocky and he was alright with knowing that. Both Rocky and Apollo have the spirit of true fighters. Great reaction and I hope you continue the Rocky journey.

  • @RaymondJohnson

    What's so remarkable about the Rocky franchise is that somehow the first movie won the Oscar for best picture *and yet* everyone who watches them finds reasons they might like the subsequent movies even more.
    Even if you don't grow to like Paulie the person, appreciate him for being a brilliant, perfectly acted character. We see Rocky's compassion in the way he befriends Pauly, and we see Adrian's strength in how she stands up to her brother. If Rocky had to show that compassion to Adrian without Pauly it might look like pity, and if Adrian had to show that strength to Rocky it might have looked like their relationship was weakening, not getting stronger. Stallone's inclusion of the Pauly character was a brilliant move.

      I have always felt Rocky V was underappreciated on its release. Coming off of Rocky IV and where Stallone was going in his career at the time, I wonder if some people were expecting Rocky to be fighting an alien invasion or rescuing the President. I think those who love the fifth film watch the series for the story of Rocky, the Man. And those who dismiss the film watch the series for the story of Rocky, the Myth and Legend.

    One of my favorite lines in any movie is when Rocky says, 'You ain't never get rid of me.' The best part of the Rocky movies is how they humanize every character. It would've been easy to make another empty movie about boxing with lots of action, but that's never been what Rocky is about. Even characters like Apollo, who could've been just a one-note villain, becomes a real person you can relate to and feel for, (especially in the later films). These are heartfelt dramas disguised as action movies, which is super clever.

    This is in my top 5 favorite movies of all time. One of the reasons is Apollo Creed. He may be one of the most understood characters in any movie. You have to remember he was undefeated and the only reason why he ever fought Rocky in the first place was because no one wanted to fight him. Basically Apollo was so good no one ever presented a challenge for him. Until Rocky. When his manager was telling him Rocky kept coming after him it was the exact wrong thing to say. Apollo realized there was finally someone who could finally test him. Take Apollo to his limits and make him for the first time really see what he's made of as the world champion, if he trained as hard as he could and went all out. It was a once in a lifetime opportunity Apollo could not resist. While he ultimately lost, he gave it his all, never backed down, didn't take the easy way out by winning on points, and went out like a true champion.

    I remember watching the films at the end of the 90s, and as a child, most of the lessons went unnoticed, until one day I decided to visit the franchise at the end of my adolescence, and I confess that I went with a bit of prejudice because at that time Stalone was already known as an actor in action films where everything was about shooting and explosions, but this film is so different and it was all so impactful for me that at least once a year I have revisited all of his films since then.

    Addie, you have many more surprises to come, in the "Rocky" franchise! "Rocky I" had been my all-time favorite, until I saw the sequel "Rocky Balboa." The follow-on "Creed" movies have become a favorite of mine also. If you plan to go through the entire Rocky Series of movies, plus the Creed follow-ups, all I can tell you is "buckle-up!"

      They only one that everyone hates on is "Rocky 5." Stallone had paired up with the original director, John Avildsen in the hopes of trying their best to replicate the success of the original movie. Thank God that Stallone had decided to make "Rocky Balboa", which I believe had ended the series on a more positive note. 😎🥊🇺🇸

    About Mickey, and your surprise over your growing fondness for him. It's interesting to think about how he was hurt and disappointed in Rocky, for taking the enforcer job, instead of doing more with his boxing talents. Mickey seems mean to Rocky in the first movie, but it's because he truly cared and saw more in Rocky than Rocky did in himself, perhaps.

    • @hemlock399
      @hemlock399 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I always liked Mickey in the 1st movie, too. It's easy to think he's trying to exploit Rocky when Rocky gets his shot at the title, but that's a misunderstanding of his motivations. He always wanted to help Rocky make the most of his talent.

    Yo, Addie. If you didn't expect to cry during Rocky II (1979), then Rocky III (1982) is really gonna hit you harder. BTW, at 12:00, the camera that is used to film the commercial that Rocky was in is a Panavision Panaflex camera, the same camera used to shoot this movie. You've seen several other movies throughout your entire life shot on those cameras

    Rocky II is my favorite out of the first four movies (due to personal circumstances, I never got into any of them after IV). But speaking just about those four, I think what made them so great is the way they built upon the strengths of the first movie. Those sequels were so good because they kept adding to what had come before, making us feel closer to the characters we knew and caring about them even more.
    III and IV actually have elements that I think make them better, in some ways, than I and II but, all things considered, Rocky II remains my overall favorite.
    Making each of these movies even more enjoyable, though, is watching the way you're becoming so connected to the characters and drawn into their stories. Seeing how emotional you get helps me (and many others, I'm sure) relive my original feelings in such a strong and wonderful way.
    Thank you, Addie! 🤗

    My seven and eight-year-old kids watched through the whole series around Thanksgiving this past year and it was my wife’s first time watching. I always loved the Rocky movies because my wife’s demeanor is a lot like Adrian’s… at any rate, during the slow motion, part in the slow count while Apollo and Rocky are trying to get up on their feet, both of my kids were screaming at the TV for Rocky to get up. Over 40 years old and seeing my kids totally engrossed in the story was remarkable. just a heads up, that many more emotions await you. If you continue with the story, my kids were just as much into those as they were with this one, just still so amazed that they were yelling at the TV screen.

    In Rocky 1, it is about going the distance, in Rocky 2, it was about getting back up.
    Rocky isn’t really about beating someone up or even being the best; Rocky movies are about resilience. In every movie, the battle is within himself, with each movie exploring a different demotivating factor.

    34:12 Going by the actual rules of boxing, only Creed would be counted as being knocked down. Rocky fell over from exhaustion and overbalancing, not from a blow from Creed, so he would be ruled to have slipped only. However, Stallone wanted drama when he wrote the script, and so the referee (who was a real-life boxing referee and judge, btw) counted them both.

    I just found your Rocky reaction and watched both of these reactions tonight. I love how invested you are in this. I look forward to seeing you experience the rest of the series. Rocky was one of my favorite film series growing up. I grew to love those characters. And there are moments in the films that still make me laugh, cry, and cheer as if it is the first time I've ever seen them because they are so well written and powerfully done. A lot of people will probably say skip part 5. That one is by far the weakest in the series but it is still worth a watch and is necessary to truly understand and appreciate where things are when you get to part 6 (Rocky Balboa).
