i really liked this video, so what if the camera work isn't great, she does a good job of showing us exactly what she's doing, explains as she goes along, and I love her warm, authentic personality.
This was SO HELPFUL! Thank you, you are an excellent teacher. I am excited to try parking with my next full coverage project. I will probably watch a billion more videos before I do, but I feel like I FINALLY get the concept thanks to this video.
I'm glad you liked it! I have actually moved towards working in larger areas than just a row at a time, as I find it's faster, but once you've got the concept, you can adapt it to what works best for you!
Your parking technique is awesome! I am definitely going to try it. I love the way you stagger the sections to ensure you don't see page breaks. I love the John James petite needles also. I never thought to look for them on eBay in bulk for so much less money. Thank you so much for sharing all your tips! I'm looking forward to your future videos.
Your explanation of how you keep track of the threads/stitches was so helpful. I’m doing a large design and parking seems the best method to help me keep track. I did grid my fabric. That helps me so much too. I liked listening to how you handle different situations and how you stitch around the grid lines. Very good tutorial. So happy I found it.
Thank you for explaining parking and ending your threads! I’ve watched so many videos and nothing has made sense so very much appreciated. I love your pattern, I have it on my wishlist 😊
I //love// the way you do parking. This is the first time I've seriously thought about using parking when I start my first HAED. Thank you so much for this video!
I love the way you stitch, the way you stagger your colors, I think that I might try to stagger like you do when I go back to my top most page & do it myself!
Thanks for video--very helpful! Glad to see someone leave the needles on--that's how I plan to park IF I ever get the courage to start one of the full coverage patterns I own!!
Emily, Thank you for showing your parking technique! It makes perfect sense to me. I usually use the 10 x 10 method but I will give this a try when I pick up stitching on my HAED project. I love that it cuts down on both counting and marking time. I love the idea of parking the needle and not re-threading each time..ain't nobody got time for that!!! Thanks again for sharing! Suzette x
Part of that might be whether you have a preference for expensive or cheap needles, and how many colors in a project. The stuff on AliExpress is like 3 bucks for 100 needles, and, well... a project’s worth of needles is never gonna be *that* expensive with that, is it.
Your video was life changing for me. I have tried different methods of parking on my HAEDs but none of them worked for me. Your method is by far the best way to park ever!! Thank you for filming this tutorial................Nancy
Thank you so much for all your explanations. They have helped me a lot, as a bit of a novice! I like your idea of doing 20 stitches in a row, rather than a block, because you’re starting a lot of stitches in an empty hole. Also Parking with the needles attached seems to make a lot of sense! Heather, Ireland.
Thank you! I could never wrap my head around parking but you really cleared it up for me. I can really see how this would make working these large full coverage pieces more manageable/orderly.
Thanks so much, you have a great system and I an going to use it on my first HAED. Please do some more tutorials on this. You are a great teacher. Again thank you!
Thank you for the great and clear explanation. I will definitely try this. I have been getting confused with the methods I have tried so far. I keep wanting to go off ahead. By making t one row at a time I might actually keep myself from running away with myself.
I really enjoyed your video. I park the same way and I agree that it really helps with making less errors in those heavy confetti sections. I also really liked your demonstration of how you manage to keep your needles threaded. I will be using that technique today!
Thank you again for this tutorial. I'm sure I watched it last year when I started my HAED 🤣 my parking method has devolved over time and I definitely needed a refresh!
I have just watched your video and want to say thank you. It is the best demonstration video on parking that will help me. I am actually waiting on my first HAED material pack and have been stressing on the best way to do it as it will be a long project and don't want to mess it up ot give up on it because I am frustrated. I have another project that I will practice on. Thanks again 👍
Thank you for this well filmed and clearly demonstrated video on your parking method. It's the one that has helped me the most so far. I am trying it on my Disney Dreams piece an so far it is going very well!
Oh my goodness I loved this video. Thank you for sharing this method of yours. I also do the row by row, and the 20 by 20 blocks. Definitely gonna do the needle on the thread parking and the blocks that go over the 10 by 10 dark lines so that the definite lines don't have a chance to show. Gonna watch your other videos also. Take care!!
Loved your video. I have always wanted to try the parking method (never new it had a name) but it was a little intimidating. I have watched a couple of other videos and still couldn't figure it out. But, you really took the time to explain and shown us how to do parking. I started a cross stitch a few years ago and I am excited to try the parking method on it. Thanks again. 😁
Thanks for this video! I’ve tried to use parking before but I couldn’t make it work for me. I tried your method today and got 200 stitches with pretty heavy confetti done. I also used your suggestions for waste knots successfully. There were a few slow downs when I parked in the wrong spot but it not too difficult to correct when you work on a small area at a time. I’ll keep watching for other tips. Hope you have some great stitching time this weekend. Kitsey from Texas
Thanks for your wonderful instructions! I've watched several parking videos, but your's is the first that showed the staggering technique. I could have figured it out on my own, but I enjoyed watching you show me. :-D I'm still a newb to cross stitching, but learning about parking makes me want to run to my LNS & find a full coverage piece to try next! Also, I originally thought it kind of useless to grid a full coverage if I'm using the parking technique, but you've just proven me wrong in that regard.
I love how you showed what to do when you mispark a thread. I usually do something similar although sometimes I can't figure out what color the misparked thread is and I have to just end it off. Great video!
Yay! Finally! I have to admit though, I kinda stopped paying attention partway through. I realised this method of cross stitch *isn't* for me, so I stopped watching. It was great background noise while I made glitter paper though! Now I have craft herpes :-(
This was very helpful. I have yet to park, I'm more of a cross country stitcher. I always wondered if ones kept their needle on their thread and have to start it all over which seems like it would take a lot of time. I'm definitely going to try this on my next full coverage project. Thanks! Oh and I've had parking thread break on me too.
I tried this method last night. It was awesome!!! I'm currently working on a project on black fabric and this helped me so much. Thank you, thank you, thank you!!!
i do something similiar to feather my stitches but i had never thought to premark my pattern. thank you for the tutorial ill start premarking my pattern
Pretty much a mass of random thread! (Though I think that has more to do with how I was handling stitching over the ends of thread than the parking method itself.)
I have been gobbling up all the videos I can find on parking as I just ordered my first HAED, and I am so excited that it actually was shipped today! So I have even been trying to watch the Russian ladies-- lol. I have been worried about seeing page break groove/lines, so your stagger method is awesome-- I also need to work off paper and mark my progress with a highlighter--- I also do not want to have to flip my project over any more than I have to-- so the loop start method (mine will me on 18ct also) will be great for 2 over 1,)--- and I notice where you put your waste knots-- is there anything you can point out about those? Tricks...advise? I seriously enjoyed watching this and subscribed! I have been stitching cross country for 30 years and am ready to do some more serious stitching! Thanks!
When you grid does it make it easier to Crosstitch I am a beginner and that is why I am asking I was watching your videos I've watched quite a few videos y'all make it look so easy I do like to embroider I've been doing that for years but I thought I would try some cross stitching
I'd end up poking myself with all those needles. I like that term you used, "No big". Cute. Question, do you strictly stay on that row. For example if you're on row 3, you stay on row 3 until you cover you 20 stitches? I think I'm going to try this method. I'm looking for a faster method, it takes me all day just to do 200 stitches. I do the fill in the 10x10 square and tie off each stitch. Very helpful. I'll try it.
I've never heard of parking. I like the way you do it. I just cross stitch. I count end and start the next color. I've watched a few of these and you all make it sound harder then it is. Oh I do not! use markers to keep my place. I use a pencil. that way if I want to ever stitch it again? I can erase it. Or if a friend would like to do the pattern.
Very late but maybe there are other people with the same problem/issue. There are erasable highlighters! They get erased through heat so you could probably just use a hair dryer on it and the colour would be gone:)
sorry for all questions but i’m a newbie and want to use this method. I’m doing a pattern where seems every stitch is different so do you then park every stitch it appears?? ALSO. since this is snake method do you look for next symbol from underneath T bottom of far right? OR are you not doing snake and always stitching rows left to right❓does that make sense? ONE MORE. why on downward arrows why park second one from grid and not first one from grid?
Yeah, if every stitch is different, you end up parking every stitch! I have moved to parking in 10x10 blocks since posting this video (and then moved on to working cross country with the Pattern Keeper app). I stitch my rows in two passes - the first leg (lower left to upper right for me) from left to right, then finishing the crosses as I come back from right to left. So I always start the row on the left, and therefore park on the leftmost symbol. Does that answer what you were asking? I confess I don't remember why I did that - it's been so long since I made this video! Quite possibly it's to stagger where the beginning of each row is so there's no visible line where I split the pattern into columns.
@@emilyr2836 i wish more did how you used to👀I don’t have PK but i was doing by color before those ninja stitches mess me up Being new so hard. And you and Needle Ninja only ones w videos (row by row parking)
Thanks for you fantastic demonstration on parking. I have watched this a while ago and started doing your method and I got frustrated and have now realised I was actually trying to stitch 2 rows of 20. So anyway I have just been doing cross country on a page and it's not for me, I get lost in it when trying to fill in spaces so I want to go back and do it your way with parking and one row of 20 at a time. I have only been stitching for around 6 months after a very long break so How would you suggest I change my style with the patterns I have to get me back to your parking method?
Yeah, as long as the thread's not too long, I just run it along the back. If it's going to be more than a couple of inches, I'll end the thread and start it again when I come to the next stitch later.
I do - I currently have a random clamp-style one I found at a thrift store, but I don't love it because I struggle to get it high enough for me to stitch two handed comfortably.
This was very helpful. I've never used this technique before and I'd like to try. One question, how far away does the next instance of the color need to be where instead of parking, you determine it's too far and you just end it?
Thanks for this useful video. I am doing a quite a bit more complicated pattern with lots of confetti and I was trying to see all the instances of where a particular colour was used by symbol, and I was missing a lot of them, which amounted to lots of “one-off” stitches woven I to the back. I do have a question though. Do you find carrying threads down or over to the next occurrence uses a lot of thread? I turn into a total Scrooge when it comes to using threads and I live I fear that I’m going to run out of a colour so I fear carrying them too far. Also, once you clipped off a thread (because you’re done that colour or you’re going to have to carry it too far to its next place), how do you do the loop start again with the length of thread you’ve been using? I mean, it now has two open ends with no loop. Thanks.
Emily Dyes Fiber thank you so much for responding! I have some other Crosstitch questions but I don’t know who to ask and I haven’t been able to find the answer by googling. may I ask you?
i noticed you parked your thread way over on row below with symbol requested rather than the symbol that appeared below further to right. DOESNT that make back with a lot of carried threads? us that a problem?
It doesn't bother me! You can definitely end off threads sooner if it does bother you. I do tend to avoid parking into the next column, even if there's a matching symbol nearby, because I find it's hard to remember which colors I've parked over there, and I don't want to end up in a situation where I've got multiple of the same color parked in that column (not the end of the world, but it's not as efficient).
Thank you for this, it was very helpful, and the videos you linked to in the description were great too. I just have one question though, I don't really understand the reason why you stagger your stitches at the start and end of each block, could you explain that a bit more? Thank you again. :)
@@emilyr2836 Thanks very much for the explanation. I was going to try this method on the big project I am just about to start but I might try it on a smaller project first. :)
Hey Emily! Awesome demonstration! I have a few questions. 1. A youtuber said she tried doing a very confetti heavy chart but her back was so messy that her worked area got very bulky. Does that issue come up with you? 2. Im thinking of doing tent/half stitches on 28 count for a faster finish. Have you ever tried tent? 3. On 28 count its recommended to use 1 strand for full crosses and 2 strands for half stitches. My problem is i want all my stitches to lay straight. With 2 strands my needle sometimes twists and my finished stitch looks like 2 ropes crossing. With 1 strand thats not a problem. So tent will give me faster stitches but the 2 strands will slow me down vs 1 strand which i prefer but full crosses will slow me down. Any idea what to do?
Emily Dyes Fiber awesome! I was just viewing your Flosstube videos and saw it on the one where you hate cross country! I think it looks fabulous! I will be trying to do it your way and the only reason i think i can tolerate 2 strands is because of the loop method. Railroading stitches is dreadful, ive tried using a bigger tapestry needle as a laying tool and its not for me. Thanks for the superfast reply! Ive subscribed!
Emily Dyes Fiber wow thanks for the advice! I will definitely try both methods and see! Cant wait for more cross stitch videos!! You can even upload videos of just you stitching! I love watching people stitch! Also your teaching methods are wonderful, you can upload multiple videos on how to grid/organize your floss and WIPs etc. Btw thank you so much for the free monthly flowers pattern! Its truly beautiful!
This made sence to me. You did a good job. Could I use this on a regular pattern? It has clouds with 3 colors. Confetti stitches in the clouds. Thank you for this wonderful video.
It's just because there are so many spots with one stitch of another color and I make a mess when I just stitch the one color and try to add in another color in the vacant spots. Do you have any other ideas?
Emily R Thank you so much. I think I am going to try it. There are only 3 colors in the clouds and a lot of single stitches when the colors change. I want thid to look great, because it is fore a wonderful friend. Your stitching is beautiful.
I noticed that your pattern had a lot of the same stitches bunched together and makes it very understandable with your description...thank you btw.....but I had a question about parking with a pattern that had a lot of different stitches is there an email address I could send you my pattern and you could possibly give me an idea how I can possibly not make a huge mess out of what in doing....I feel like I kind of am so far and could really use the help Thank you 😊
@@emilyr2836 it's not the messy back that gives me a panic attack lol it's trying to keep the floss organized when it only has one or two symbols for each 10 or 20 squares does that make sense? This is why I wanted to see if you had an email so I could show you the pattern and get your advice on it
Thank you very much. Excellent video. You explained things beautifully. I get most of it but I find I would be confused as to which thread belongs to which symbol when looking at them hanging down. Also, isn't it a bit wasteful doing parking, which you kinda' mentioned, isn't it? Anyho, great video and thanks for your reply!
Emily, thank you very much for your replying! I appreciate all your information and it is fascinating! I've recently returned to cross stitching after over 1 decade (maybe more) since I last cross stitched. So, I am behind the times. I've only recently heard of parking - had no idea what it was. However, your wonderful video makes a lot of sense and helps me understand it better. I am afraid to park and although I could get more floss if I run out of it while parking, I feel bad wasting it, but it beats starting up for every single stitch, especially confetti.Thank you again for replying to me and your great video!
Again Emily, thank you for replying. Yep, it's wonderful all you can learn through YT videos on cross stitching. I love watching several ones (very few stitchers), but I find that the majority of females, (maybe 1 or 2 males), ramble on and on ad nauseum! They ramble on and on about their cats, their marriages, everything but very little about the subject matter - CROSS STITCHING! It's ridiculous and the click bait gets me every time, so I wind up either fast forwarding or existing. It's embarrassing that these people don't leave that problems at home or at a support group.Btw, I ordered and received your Sharpie highlighters. Thanks for all your info. Take care.
Interesting how everyone has their own thought processes on stitching. I tried parking and hated it. I just follow the color and stitch as it makes sense to me. Not too far because I want to avoid counting errors. It gets too confusing to me to have threads all over. Do what makes you happy!
This is a very clear video, and much appreciated. Thank you. I park, but not using this method and I will be trying this on my next project. I have a couple of questions I hope you can answer please Emily. If you have a stitch in a colour at the end of the row, (stitch number 20) and the next one is stitch number 1, do you carry the thread all the way back to stitch number 1? Also, do you stagger the bottom of your stitching, between the page you are working on, and the page below?
Is this the loop method from the front that you could not find? She shows the loop as well as a pin stitch. peacockandfig.com/2015/04/beginning-and-ending-threads-loop-method-pin-stitch/
too many threats going at the same time. I dont premark my patern. I start at the center of the chart and work my way out. which is the old school way of doing cross stitch.
i really liked this video, so what if the camera work isn't great, she does a good job of showing us exactly what she's doing, explains as she goes along, and I love her warm, authentic personality.

Quite possibly it's to stagger where the beginning of each row is so there's no visible line where I split the pattern into columns.

i wish more did how you used to👀I don’t have PK but i was doing by color before those ninja stitches mess me up
Being new so hard.
When parking a thread to you run the thread on the back of work..with no cutting off thread..and rethread..tia😀
Yeah, as long as the thread's not too long, I just run it along the back. If it's going to be more than a couple of inches, I'll end the thread and start it again when I come to the next stitch later.
@@emilyr2836 great thank you again😀
This is a really interesting way to stitch 😀 do yiu use a stand with your q snap?
Thanks.
Very nice explanation! Are the threads to the right the tie off’s if there are no other symbols for that color and those gridded areas?
@@emilyr2836 i talking about your parked thread
Thank you for this, it was very helpful, and the videos you linked to in the description were great too. I just have one question though, I don't really understand the reason why you stagger your stitches at the start and end of each block, could you explain that a bit more? Thank you again. :)
@@emilyr2836 Thanks very much for the explanation. I was going to try this method on the big project I am just about to start but I might try it on a smaller project first. :)
This is helpful, thank you!
I noticed that your pattern had a lot of the same stitches bunched together and makes it very understandable with your description...thank you btw.....but I had a question about parking with a pattern that had a lot of different stitches is there an email address I could send you my pattern and you could possibly give me an idea how I can possibly not make a huge mess out of what in doing....I feel like I kind of am so far and could really use the help
Thank you 😊
@@emilyr2836 it's not the messy back that gives me a panic attack lol it's trying to keep the floss organized when it only has one or two symbols for each 10 or 20 squares does that make sense? This is why I wanted to see if you had an email so I could show you the pattern and get your advice on it
Could you please tell me the brand name of the retractable highlighter you are using. Thanks.
Agreed!
So what about the heart and square things in the pattern.
Are they all cross stitch
Is this the loop method from the front that you could not find? She shows the loop as well as a pin stitch. peacockandfig.com/2015/04/beginning-and-ending-threads-loop-method-pin-stitch/
Are you on 25ct? One full cross over one?
👍👍👍💐🏆
too many threats going at the same time. I dont premark my patern. I start at the center of the chart and work my way out. which is the old school way of doing cross stitch.
Me, too!
