There are countless videos about how to grow a small TH-cam channels, but many of them are out of date! Even we have videos on our channel that still get new viewers every day, but feature advice we have kind of moved on from. Today, we'll be setting the record straight on a number of TH-cam myths!

There are still channels that use old system in content creation, slideshows with captions, no voice or any other presence, minimal transformative content apart from spending time in collecting a bunch of pictures, and guess what, they are monetized. I’m not talking about one or two, there are hundreds of them and I see new ones coming up like mushrooms. This totally discredits TH-cam as dishonest and unfair platform because if you try and replicate that, you’ll get demonetized straightaway. So how are these channels getting away?!
I’ve done that confusing part for my viewers. I’ve only recently learned of publishing a video without “notifying subscribers” which might be a life saver. If my subs don’t want the “new video” then TH-cam thinks it’s garbage and doesn’t push it out to new viewers.
Can you elaborate please ? Just uncheck box not to notify subs but keep embedding on right?

The only potential issue I have with this is I feel you may run the risk of splitting the community you build. I could be wrong but that would be my fear in doing that.

It's easy to get caught into why "the system" is screwing you over. The moment you really focus on quality and consistency for "one audience" things just work! Yes sometimes views will be slow and it's best to just keep creating and not focus on it.

I see so many Creators large and small. Blame TH-cam for everything. My personal experience is quite the opposite.

TH-cam is hot garbage for this mess. There's no way some of us including myself have over $1k subs yet when our videos go live, youtube never sends our subs the videos. It's crap
At one point in time youtube was easier, but now you have to utilize *everything* from tags, description, good thumbnail, high ranking title SEO fully optimized, also share on outside platforms you practically have to be perfect for each video to get views, and your video has to be well edited and nice, I also noticed if you have alot of subscribers and get few views it kind of messes up your channel, so its better to get views than subs. The only ones who can get away with no optimization are bigger channels who are already solidified.
Not sure ur correct. I've been at it for only 9 months. It only took 7 months to hit 1,000 subs... and 2 months to hit 1,600 hours so far. I've been sloppy w my uploads, not consistent everyday, and I've never done any editing. Just my 2 cents
@ms_beastie it's because you are using other people's content, so in other words you are riding the wave of others work, in the long run that may not even be good, so it may be hard for you to get monetized when you reach 4k watch time. You can have reactions to other people's material but it looks like you are just copying and pasting.

For me, I use Shorts as a form of getting new subscribers. Even though I am a long-form channel, 50% of my my subscriptions come from shorts videos. Which I put almost zero effort into making. Whenever I'm finished editing a video, I go back to it after I've posted it, and just reduce it down to a 60 second short. Usually takes less than 15 minutes. I definitely recommend making them for new creators. I literally view them as advertisements for my channel/long-form videos. And it's been working so far; Only 4 month old channel and almost at 300 subscribers (I would only be at 150 without shorts).
It’s weird for me. Every time I made shorts from remix of my longs, my next long videos suffer with low views. It’s like TH-cam stop pushing my longs and thinking I’m switching to shorts 😢

@@Tinytales14 this is exactly what happened to me. I stop posting short and ended up deleting them altogether. I started a second channel and put all my shorts on that one.
They are just vanity metrics.....they are useless subs because they DON'T watch long form. many massive youtubers have made videos on this go check.
I disagree with your thoughts on tags. As a super small channel, I posted a video and called at 6 views. I changed a few tags to better suit the video, and it popped off (400+ views)

3:40 I am subscribed to a engineering mechanic who works on all sorts of vehicles, but one video he literally made a sandwich. He asked his audience what his next video should be, and put it to a vote. The sandwich building won.

5:05 - Heck, give it 3-6 months even. On my business channel I tested a video outside my niche. It was dead on arrival. 6 months later, it exploded and after a year it had 700,000 views (my other best video was 50,000 at the time). I then made a series of new content in that experimental niche that's unrelated to my primary niche and all of those videos have over 500,000 views each and are my bread and butter.

If you build an audience and eventually evolve your content you might align your audience. Your suscribers are the first one that affect YT´s algo to new viewers feed, if they dont watch your new content it will lower the videos impressions and will lead the video to have only a fraction of your usual views.

Im currently in the quicksand, my videos were getting like 50k plus views, but then I didn’t post for 6 months (got married and had a 2nd baby) and since I’ve started posting again, I’m getting like 200 views per video and it’s very frustrating 😂. I also decided to stop doing shorts even though they get awesome views they don’t do much for me at all

LOL I was not expecting Doctor Who on here.
My two channels have taken a dive since November. Now I barely get more than a few hundred impressions on a video. I usually have 10-20% CTR but that's as far as it goes. I have no idea how I'm supposed to get more impressions when the two things I can control, thumbnail and content, have no influence over impressions, and descriptions/tags have so little influence.

I started my channel 2 weeks ago and the first few days my shorts were getting thousands of views but now it hardly gets 1 view even tho I post 2 shorts per day. Ill just keep posting till something good happens.

My channel is a perfect example of TH-cam shadowbanning my shorts. I started off 2k to 6k views on my first 2 days and then suddenly my shorts started getting literally 0 views.
That happens to everyone
Here is how I view shorts:
1) not to grow subs.
2) not to make videos from shorts.
3) the regular viewers of your long form videos get to see you in a short. Keeping “top of mind awareness”.
So I make them but not for the reasons many do.
Sometimes I feel so sad, and feel like my channel isn't going anywhere.... but I try to keep my head up, and stay positive.

While I dont believe in shadow bans, I do believe in getting very low impressions. When I first started on youtube my videos would get legit 6 impressions for months. Luckily if it wasn't for someone in my niche who recommended my video things got better.
Only massive channels who make controversial videos get shadow-banned, if that's really a thing.

Be good to have a similar video based on unsigned musicians with channels, who put up music videos of their songs, not the tutorials. For me, finding trends to emulate goes against the type of channel mine is. I just make videos for my own tunes. I gather the same concerns would be for all music acts on here. For us it's more about finding fans of the music genre we produce.

My videos have been getting between just 8 and 80 views recently. I switched from mostly shorts to mostly long form content a month or so ago and they havent been getting any views. Ive changed the thumbnails and titles and they either didnt make a difference or the view count went down. (Its a skiing channel btw.) DO you know why this might be happening? (They are getting suggested to people, but have been getting a 2 percent CTR.) Thanks so much for responding and stuff if you do and i loved the video!

My channel is for hobby purposes only. I have no desire to get monetized or go full-time as a content creator. The best thing about having a channel as a hobby is the freedom to upload whatever you want whenever you want.

I have a suspicion that those who complain about being shadow banned are not big enough to get attention, and thus have self-shadow banned themselves by making videos that don't hold the attention of viewers. The videos on my channel that got thousands of views did not get views immediately. Sometimes, changing the title and/or thumbnail can refresh a stuck video. Sometimes, creating a new video that is better than the last video is the only thing that will get your channel unstuck. When all else fails, make a new video and make it better than your last video.
Question: if I have money made in TH-cam and I make a new Adsense account (after closing one), will my money save in TH-cam or will it go to the closed Adsense account and be lost? Also should my Adsense account type be individual for TH-cam? Thanks!

I have a question on reusing content. If I split my channel into two different channels one that focused on comedy and the other on esoteric textures, would it be considered reusing content if I (deleted and) reposted all the comedy (and wildlife) shorts on a new channel?

I started youtube channel about a month ago. most of the videos are lists/top10s. I made only 8 videos so far, but I cut each video and made shorts from them (10 minute top10 video makes it pretty easy to split them in 10 parts under a minute each). I upload main video first and later I upload 1 or 2 shorts daily. I try to use them as trailers for my main videos. is this good idea?

I try really hard to understand why some videos only have 2 IMPRESSIONS, just my hands drawing, no copyrights, no AI, my voice, no sex or violence, just me drawing animals or hot air ballons and only 2 IMPRESSIONS. Does anyone has any idea please?

QUESTION: Why is it that my views for a video in the TH-cam studio, and the views shown under a video on my channel page can be different? I checked one of my videos on my channel page and it had a little over 100 views at the time, but then when I looked at the stats in the studio it said the views were in the 70s. This wasn't as brand new video either, it had been up for a little while.
The views under the latest video are monitored in real-time, while the views in the "content" section accumulate over time. TH-cam verifies whether there were any fake views during the initial "live" views (the crucial first 30 minutes) to determine if your short video will take off or be flagged for issues like fake views. However, this is not a final decision. If, within 6-8 hours (maximum 8 hours), your short video doesn't gain even a minimal number of views, it may result in a shadow ban.

This discrepancy usually only happens to me when I view a video on my channel while it’s private to check if the subtitles are timed right.

you are getting raw views (last 10 videos monitoring), they have to be verified by yt algo in case to became unique views = second stage (content tab). More unique views in the first 6 hours of your material lifetime = shi* tones of views or viral after.
If you're not gettin any views in first 30min, not even 1 = first alert. If after 6 hours u have 0 views = shadow banned material, short is dead.

Mine is more so my shorts. I was hitting 1k/2.5K and for a small channel, I was pretty impressed, but suddenly going into 2024, I started hitting less over night. I don’t know if the algorithm was updated, Id understand if it was over time a decrease, but to happen over night is weird to me.. I am concentrating on long form content this year anyway, my aim, but regarding my shorts that was doing very well. I’m just baffled why over night my shorts just stopped getting views

I always felt invisible on content platforms. Maybe it was due to I just did what I was interested in, and it was no quantity and no consistency behind it. If I ever chose one topic and stick with it, I'm sure that would've had more success. With AI I see a danger of low quality content flooding youtube. You see many vids these days, all same style with an AI voice. It's just like modern games or music - they just have no soul anymore.
Shorts is the key i feel. I make only shorts videos and the shorts view time ie higher as these videos are in lesser duration
But driving shorts to full form is one significant challenge
My last question is, is if your hands and voice is the only part of yourself in the video, is that considered faceless? For example, I am doing mostly Tarot Card ASMR content. The cards, colors, the textures, ambient sounds, and whispers are the subject of the video or Livestream, is this considered faceless?
I am not scripting my videos, but occasionally I use voiceovers and minimal AI (tools) in the editing process.

Just keep active. Good sound, interesting content (subjective!), be yourself more to camera (like you). Use shorts from remix of older (or newer!) videos of relevance to the time (Burns Night gave me an excuse to revive a couple of old videos by remix). Don't care about the money: care about the journey being nice.

7:27 is it better to have a second channel exclusively for shorts? Or to just put shorts on the regular, long-form content channel even if they don’t add much value?
Question: My most recent video for the first time ever got 98% of its impressions from "Suggested Videos", whereas my videos normally get the most from "browse features" and maybe only 30-40% from suggested videos. As a result, my CTR was TERRIBLE (1.3%), normally my CTR is pretty decent like 5% or so. I feel like I got screwed because it is much easier to see thumbnails in browse features than in suggested videos. Please HELP!

The CTR goes up and down like crazy it's hard to tell if it is actually helping the video or not.
Regarding shorts. 33% of my viewers watch both long and short content of mine. Is that a good metric to tell me that there is actually crossover?
For me personally I don’t hate shorts, but lately I have been producing them as a way to either make filler stuff or even make like a chunk size action bits from my longer stuff. I also see no harm in making them every once in awhile as long as it still follows the theme of my channel.
And besides if I am out and about or at a cafeteria. I’m not gonna have time to watch a long 30 minute video! I mean hey it’s practically common sense. 👍
