Andrius is both majestic and sad.
He was a noble creature. And he's long dead. We're fighting what's left of his spirit
This theme has always felt a bit underrated to me, it's gorgeous.

I’m so glad we don’t fight Andrius as an enemy but as a trial for him to test our strength. While his story is sad I’m glad we’re not enemies with him.
Besides I’d feel bad to beat up a big, fluffy, dead wolfgod each week if he didn’t want to as well. He’s very chill (metaphorically and literally) and I wish he was in more story stuff.

I would have felt about beating up Razor's dad
makes sense he's not in the story much. Either trouble goes to him or he's chilling. Goals tbh

The land of Mondstadt in the game is closely related to the god of time, which probably explain the ticking sound. This ticking also present in another Mondstadt boss

Basically Andrius is a boss we fight for challenge, not because he's a threat unlike other bosses like Signora or Scaramouche.
He's a long dead god, only his spirit still lives in Wolvendom.

One reason I love watching these reactions is how people just say some comments about how they feel hearing the theme and how it just gets so accurate.
Like, he said this feels like fighting an old friend. That's exactly what happens

3:04 Because it is kind of a test and training offered by Andrius, not a deathmatch. And Andrius is long dead - What we are fighting is his soul with only a fraction of his power.

8:06 actually the official one ends with a typewriter ticking sound. Since it's not official video, it ended like that . Also the ticking sound is also noticed in stormterror's theme, well simply it symbolizes time. Wind and time are intricately interconnected to both the bosses since they're both rulers

  • @brinkjayy

As a character, basically Andrius is like a spirit of his former "godly" self who over time has lost much of his power and has even been abused by evil forces many times before. In this fight, you as the main character are challenging his soul to a duel to be proven worthy and yes in a way he is corrupted as well when you fight him in a few other cases. This is probably the reason for the ticking sounds representing time passing. Also, the chaotic feels would be because he is a wolf and kind of embodies rage and power of a hunter.
After fighting Andrius, his story and time is never over with him degrading and VERY slowly fading away, so that's a reason for why there might not have been a peak or climax really.
Love how the music can convey these things to you.

This sound really blends well into the next boss song for Dvalin, it sounds so good to listen to them back to back. Andrius's theme ends abrupt but then Dvalin's picks it up.

  • @zeroiscubed7823
    @zeroiscubed7823 ปีที่แล้ว +9

Nailed the interpretation once again, it really shows the amount of language hoyomix weaves into their music that, even with no context, talented musicians can pick up on so damn much.
Every other boss in genshin is you beating them, and refighting them weekly for gameplay purposes is a "memory" recreation and not actually a rematch. Andrius is the only weekly that you actually rematch with, because you are never beating him, he's testing your progress as an old godly being seeing if you have what it takes to do what he can't.
The clock ticking shows up in both of Mondstat's weeklies, and while it may come back to have lore regarding a God of Time, my interpretation with current information is that it evokes one of the main themes of Mondstat's story: the issues born of forgetting the past, not in any fancy mindwipe way, but the natural loss of memories and culture to the ticking clock.

I recommend listing to Caelestinum Finale Termini (Or Dvalin/Stormterrors theme) next as it’s technically the first major boss right before Andrius’s boss right
It is arguably the saddest/melancholy sounding boss track the game has to offer

When you said it feels like you're fighting an old friend, it's so close to Andrius' story. He's not the friend of the main character but of the character, Venti, from who's perspective we see a lot of the first act of the game. Andrius was an adversary but eventually he became the protector of a part of Venti's realm. He wants to make sure we, as main characters, are ready to face what's to come. Also, the bitterness in the theme might also come from the fact that the enemies we're facing in Act I tried to poison Andrius and turn him and all his destructive power against the land he swore to protect. Your analysis and how you picked up on the vibes were, as so many times, spot on! :3

  • @someonealive4397

As a player you are first confronted with this battle when you do a quest about a boy named Razor, who lives and was raised in Wolvendom ( a forest region) by the wolves and starts to realize the differences between him and the wolves. Andrius is like the leader of wolves, who pointed out Razors differences and that he's not a wolf, attempting to send Razor back to the humens. It ends in Andrius giving Razor a trial to prove that he's strong enough to survive and protect himself and others.
At least that's how roughly I remember that, without looking it up again, please do correct me if I'm wrong :)
That's barrely covering the surface of this quest, but yeah, I hope it's not too confusing.
Basically it's the inner conflict from Razor about weather or not he's a wolf or human and where he belongs and Andrius is trying, in a rather kinda harsh and heartbreaking way, to help Razor understand his situation and to find an answer for Razor himself.
I think the feeling of fighting with an old acquaintance comes from Razors relationship with the wolves, who practically raised him almost his entire life and the depressing atmosphere could be because of the cause for this fight or the fact that it's like telling Razor that he doesn't belong with the wolves...
That's just my personel estimation on why it is like that and how I myself feel about it. I'm not an expert...

That old wolf died long ago, nothing left of it except its soul. Its sad that it made itself not to rule his territory (uk wolves are territorial creatures and not letting one have a territory is basically saying them to fucc off) it's sad in that way

i love this theme. It was easily the best piece of music to me till end of inazuma plot line and enkanomiya. And only Scaramouche and Apep theme replaced 'best Genshin score' place in my heart. I love how both phases makes you feel melancholic. Feel like you're farewelling an old friend. Feel like you try to reach to someone in this furious blizzard just to say bye. Feel like the TIME has come.

  • @gyannunez
    @gyannunez ปีที่แล้ว

The feelings you’re picking up on likely come from two places.
The initial fight comes from Razor’s story quest. He’s a boy raised by wolves, and Andrius, also known as Boreas, Great Wolf King of the North, is one of his parental figures. In that quest we and Razor have to fight Andrius.
The other place it may be coming from is that Andrius is a fallen god, and one of the only ones remaining. In Genshin, below the actual Celestial Gods who preside over everything, are the gods of the mortal realm, and a few thousand years prior to the game they were culled in an event called the Archon War, where the 7 victors would be granted the title of Archon and given rule of the remaining territory of the game’s central world/continent, Teyvat. Andrius fought a god named Decarabian for many years, with Andrius going on the offensive and creating a perpetual blizzard that engulfed the entire nation, and Decarabian going on the defensive and creating a storm barrier around his capital city. Decarabian later began to be viewed as a tyrant by his people who yearned for the world beyond their city, leading to a revolt that ended in his deposition and death. Several of the key figures in this revolution died during the process, including their leader. Andrius was technically a winner of the Archon War because of the death of his rival, but found he didn’t have the love of humans required of an Archon, so he let a wind spirit named Barbatos that had aided in the revolution and was close to its leader ascend to godhood and become the Anemo Archon, whereas Andrius became one of his servants, the North Wind, Lupus Boreas. His physical body died long ago, so what we see and fight is his spirit.
He is one of the few non-Archon gods who was allowed to remain after the Archon War, and one of the only ones of those who is still around (though not “alive”).

Also do it in chronological order so you can feel how the animation and music evolve! or lvl up! basically it gets better and better if you do it on chronological order.

Your interpretation is not entirely accurate. I can definitely see where the interpretation comes from, but we're not fighting Andrius after knowing him for a while or anything like that. The battle starts and ends as a chance encounter and has every right to be bombastic or action-packed and have "fighting for your life" kinda music. The fight is very much a misunderstanding, but nothing that elicits melancholy or anything like that. The fight ends on very amicable terms.
I think the piece is instead focused more on the atmosphere that Andrius has around him. In lore, Andrius is an old, noble, very taciturn god who fought alongside Venti to end the tyranny in Mondstadt. He preferred to be left alone back when he was alive, but now that he's dead and his spirit is tied to Wolvendom (the battle arena), he's become something of a vague, forgotten legend, hence the more majestic-sounding parts of the piece. When Andrius and Venti won their revolution, a new god was meant to be chosen. Andrius was noble enough to sacrifice his position to Venti because he though he didn't have enough love for humanity. In present day though, Andrius' spirit raises an abandoned boy named Razor, showing that Andrius has more than enough love for humanity after all. The ticking clock in the music symbolizes the passage of time, accentuating just how ancient Andrius is, but also how forgotten he has become since he made his sacrifice.
