Hello toomanymoths.. Since you did mention that you want to get better at art etc etc.. You could make a day plan for yourself because you're more likely to do it
I can relate to this pretty hard. I always feel like garbage when I'm playing games because I have so many better things to be doing. But when I start to do those things I feel incredibly bored and go back to the games after a bit.
Same. I tried to start to read in my free time instead of playing games but i eventually found myself reading Halo books. Thought it was funny when i realised i moved from games, to books about games which got me into halo so now im play through all the halo games lmao i went full circle.
I have quit video games for 2 years now. What am I doing with my free time you might ask? Pursuing my passion for art? Maybe a bit, but now 90% of my time has gon from games to watching TH-cam and Netflix. It's a slow journey my friends
Gabe Ebersohn i quit gaming 4 years ago. And during the 4 years i spent my free time on gardening (part time job which lasted a year), Instagram Facebook youtube and anime
Same. Why be a filthy casual who spends time playing CSGO, or LoL or PUBG. Never was into that. The only online games that I truly ever enjoyed were WoW and Warframe. Why? Because those have story. You have a story line you follow. But then I realised that even MMORPG's are ruined by the MMO concept, and completely switched to offline solo play. I'd rather play solo player games like the Mass Effect series, Fallout, TES series, Witcher, any rpg really, or the games like Castlevania or The Legend of Zelda, you know, adventurous games, that tell you a stroy, that give the opportunity to live through an adventure, save a universe or two, interact with the characters, experience beautiful landscapes...
the only games i consider time well spent are story driven ones with unique and interesting setting and mechanics, like half life or bioshock. everything else is a waste of time, especially RPGs, since you're wasting time doing boring, monotonous activities just to level up your character, instead of learning some real life skills.
@@WhoopEaterz if you watch 3 hours of this type of videos it's still better than 3 hours of nonsense videos where you watch it just because it feels good while watching. After finishing a trash video you usually feel shit (my personal opinion, don't attack me over this please)
Wanna hear the piece of advice that literally changed my life? I too felt like garbage when playing too much videogames, until I realized they were the sole reason I learned english at a very high level, higher than any of my peers, and without taking any courses (I'm not a native speaker) Then it all made sense, I immediately changed all of my games language to french, looked up the basics online and started playing again all day x) Now, fast forward 5 years I'm fluent in french and italian, almost in german and picking up russian These skills have helped me a lot, got me into some awesome places and landed me a pretty good job, I'm still playing like 2 hours a day and I enjoy every minute of it
@@seansin5603 When learning a foreign languge like that, it's good to absorb as much of it as possible whenever you can. So yeah, watching movies with French va or playing games that likewise have that would help you naturalize in it.
@@desertdevil6451 how long would it take, like a year or so? I have changed my phone's language to french so its a good start. I can kind of figure put what I'm pressing most of the time
Wait what lul, that actually works? I remember doing it for some reason as a kid, watching toy story in spanish and shit. Games will be easier to learn off I'd imagine however. Now that I think about it, I can plqy borderlands 2 over and over again on a different language and still know what they might be saying, so I guess it does get you familiar with certain sounding words so they'll be easyish to learn+remember after a while?
Kaden Wolf failed argument playing the deflection card, dangerous/unrealistic working hours proven harmful to health is the fault of a failed economy and lack of regulation. scientific facts regarding physical/mental health are inconvenient to businesses that try to pressure employee's into dangerous hours, and inconvenient to failed economy's where pay is so low in some jobs that people have to take extra hours (which then slows down productivity/health when the brain passes an X number of hours per week).
AtomicToyRobot the irony being here while some people attempt to argue that any time spent on fun is "wasted time", the same argument can be made against work because of countries like south korea where a work addiction culture (and #1 oecs suicide rates) finally lead to the government stepping and and whipping companies into submission and regulating maximum work hours allowed. too much time spent on fun is causes problems, too much time spent on work causes problems. the key is balance, but in the case of dangerously extreme work hours (that were scientifically proven harmful to health) being required for the minimum cost of living that's a failed economy without sufficent regulation to prevent corporation's from having employee's work extreme hours.
League of Legends has kept me a slave for a really long time, guess it's finally time I unshackle myself and start actually living my life. Thanks for the insightful video.
@Modern it's been over a month now since I've last played league, and oh boy do I feel better. I'm spending more time with family and friends, started putting more work into my college assignments, and picked up digital drawing to keep my mind off gaming. I don't regret my decision one bit.
man i miss tf2 3700 hours, own server network, amazing people but i have a career that has long had it coming and is now skyrocketing and takes all my time and effort. im quite proud that i could just stop playing. no exceptions. i hope tf2 will still be great when i come back because that will likely be years from now.
In other words, if you want to have fun with life, strike a fair balance between work and play; don't be a workaholic, but don't be a gamer that plays all day just to have one moment of a good time (especially with online games). Do your job, do your home chores, do your shopping, and play your games all together in moderation. You don't have to love your job though, just find something you don't hate.
The Traveler it’s not that easy, if you start playing a game you want to be good at it or become high level, and to reach that you have to play very much
@@avprince2672 Thankfully, it's very easy if you play game for fun, and avoid any notion of "competition" or the "git gud" stigma. If you ask me, it's a waste of time caring about the latter.

I had a 3 year length relationship. We used to go out every Friday on the first year, so that's 51 days for the first year. Let's say we went out 6 hours average per day so that's 306 hours the first year. We used to go out more time and see each other at college/work, and hang out at anyone's house and sleep together few times the last 2 years. So let's say thats 9 hours average a day, so 9 hours * 365 days = 3285 * 2 = 6570 + 306 of the first year = 6876 hours spent with her. She cheated on me multiple times having sex with her friend. Exactly. If video games got banned the addicted players would likely just move onto something else equally as pointless and get addicted to that instead. They wouldn't suddenly become productive and motivated people.

As a kid, video games were a rare activity for me. We had one game called Motor Storm and we were lucky to play it once every few weeks when our parents allowed. There was something special about it. On my thirteenth birthday, my parents bought me my first PS3. This introduced me to a wide variety of games. Most of my greatest early experiences with gaming revolved around connection - the thrill of playing with friends and discovering a world one level at a time. I used to ramble on and on about these games with my all friends at lunch breaks. However, there came a time where my friends moved on and stopped caring about video games. Each hour spent training hordes of zombies didn’t grant the same excitement it once had. Nevertheless, I continued to play hours on end devoting my life to these useless games. I now sit, many years later, and nothing much has changed. For the most part, I am still that same lonely kid stuck at home wasting his life away on a glorified video game; living a lie and chasing that high of connection he once felt. In all those thousands of hours spent playing, I’ve begun to realize that I will never be able to reclaim a single minute of it. I wasted over a month straight playing video games and I’m going to have to live with it. I think it’s time for me to go out and make a few stories of my own before my times up. I’m still young, but this is something I wish I’d realized sooner.
Beautiful comment. So insightful. I loved it. I find myself in the exact same situation. At first I would play them occasionally but once I got my own it became more of an obsession. All of my childhood memories, including those of friends, revolve around videogames. I find it even a bit freaky hearing how similarly you and I both came to grow up and self-reflect on our lives now. I know your comment is 8 months old from this one but I hope you've added new, real experiences to your life as I too am planning to do now having been inspired by your truthful comment. Let's go for it! Best wishes: someone like you :)
@@juanzilla6436 Its very freaky indeed, glad some of my friends still hang out and play games with me, otherwise i would be loner (not counting my gf) especially in corona times when pubs are closed and such here. The worst thing with gaming for me is the feeling of void and emptiness, like the weeks, months even years passed but are in my memory only as mere days, if not hours. Im trying slowly to get my self on track with learning about what i love beside video games, but its quite hard to be honest. Good luck in life kings. Stay strong.
For me, I stop when i get bored of a Game. I can't game for longer than 3 hours at a time without getting the urge to do something else. I still like playing games here and there tho.
definitelynotanormie when I was 15-16 I used to play LoL like a madman. If nobody stopped me, I couldn't stop playing. 4-5 hours a day easily wasted. Now I'm 18 and I can't play more than 3 games. It's not about the right game or boredom of a game, because I still enjoy LoL. It's only about the fact that you realise you're wasting time and you have the will power to do something else, eventually productive, with your time... friends, going out, parties (not clubbing necessarily), simply having walks in the park, doing a sport, learning something new etc. there's so much more to life and it is sooo short, so why waste it? you can game for as long as you want when you can't do anything else or when you are old etc. but why waste such important time when you can do something else with it?
You're 100% correct. After all, there are also a lot of things in life that can be considered a waste of time, like school for example, yeah, you can get the diploma from school which can make you able to get a job but you also learn a lot of useless things in school that you won't need in life.
Anything can be considered a waste of time. It's up to you if you want to call it a waste of time or not. It's up to you if murder is bad. It's up to you if Donald Trump is a good president. It's up to you if the sky is blue or green. All you're doing is applying terms to reality... creating a map of reality with symbols and sounds. But of course reality is what you experience with your senses in the moment of now
I always think „Instead of playing I could work on another video“. But when I’m actually editing a video I think „what a waste of time. Nobody is watching those anyways“. Both feel like a waste of time..
It’s hard for me to give up video games because I’m so passionate about some games I play and I’ve made so many amazing memories on it. The day I give up gaming will be one of the saddest days of my life. Sounds stupid but only few people would actually know what I mean.

Your point isn't a 'video-game' problem. Tons of people don't know what they want to do/study/work on. Tons of people swear they'll get round to learning an instrument someday and never do. If it's not video games, it might be TH-cam, sports, reading etc. You can't expect to be productive 24/7, and some people fatigue quicker than others. Myself and plenty others are avid gamers - who are employed and/or in college. Also, another thought - the guitarist who practices 10 hours a day might think "what am I doing practicing 10 hours a day?". He might consider that wasting his life. It all depends how you look at it.
Morgan Blem Playing guitar can get you somewhere, gaming doesn't get you anywhere (unless it's your job). And yeah it isn't technically the fault of the video Game, but the same can be applied to drugs and food and literally anything pleasureable

@@TriFekt Yes, in moderation. 10 hours a day of game playing doesn't though, while 10 hours of practising literally any other skill will get you somewhere. Plus even if you are getting a cognitive boost from gaming, it kind of goes to waste if you aren't using your mind on other things. Gaming is not a problem in moderation, every one knows that and I'm not talking about that. I am specifically talking about gaming for many hours each day
I grew up alone as an only child for the first 8 years of my life in a single parent household. My mother always worked, so I stayed alone at home in a furnished, but quiet apartment. To cure my loneliness and boredom, I took solace in my GameCube, playing Legend of Zelda: Collector's Edition. Since I was 3, i've gamed for almost 10 hours each day. It gets especially bad if it's a new game that i've never played before, and VERY bad if it's an online multiplayer. Sometimes I feel like my actual life is a mere conduit for me to play video games- that whatever happens doesn't matter, as long as I can play them. I'm 18. All of my friends have jobs, girlfriends, or are college bound...While I sit at home in my room all day, bathing every 3rd day and wallowing in self-pity. I hate myself and I constantly work myself up...To calm myself down, I play a video game. I'm stuck.
I disagree, as this is highly subjective. For example: I got a friend, who`s building his own model railway. This building stretches across 3 out of 6 rooms that he lives in. He dumps hundreds, if not thousands of € into new locomotives, decorative stuff (houses, trees, bushes, benches etc.) and new railways. He sits there all day long, fiddling around with details and stuff, repaints things, you name it. He pours his heart and soul into this. If it makes him happy, I won`t ever tell him that this would be a huge waste of time. If it makes him happy, it`s not a waste of time at all..
I agree. If you are happy and successful in life, good for you. But what if your friend just spent all this money without a job, just more layers of debt. Spend the time and money only if you can. He’s not wasting his time, but he can definitely be doing something better for him.
mazze1091 well u just turned my back on Comp, i’ve played up to 2400 Hours CS until Global and played more than 900 Hours Rainbow but after some time it just gets boring and it makes you so stressed. What exactly is a waste of time? Reading a book? Watching a movie? Riding your bike? Technically everything could be considered a “waste of time” so why not just enjoy whatever it is you’re doing for fun? People have hobbies for a reason...they want something fun to do that is a waste of time. Drinking, bowling, billiards, skating, laser tag, board games!! I mean come on the list goes on and on...some people just like video games! Edit: Now there’s a difference between a hobby and an addiction hahaha when something takes over your life and you can’t live without it, that’s a problem.
Exactly what I think! People being told, they should stop with their hobbies because other people don't see the appeal in it and say it's something bad. It happened to me, but I don't listen to this crap and follow my passions. I don't know why someone wants to read a book if they like video games much more, it's not like you become a better human or smarter because of books, it's a different thing to entertain yourself and everyone got their preferences in life. If you would call that addiction then EVERY SINGLE PERSON would be addicted to sonething, like videogames, sports, reading, phoning, chatting or whatever someone just LIKES to do! Enjoy your life, do what you like and don't overthink too much! Ignore toxic people and those, who dislike your hobbies. Life is not about them, it's about you!
Balance and moderation is everything. Just like with diet and health, you can't always eat junk foods all the time without suffering bad consequences. But, you have to give yourself some time to relax every now and then. You can't always keep on working hard all the time. That's why things like video games exist. Think of it as a reward after working for some time and after achieving something in life.
I practice moderation by only working part time. Oh wait? The only thing that matters is serving your life sentence at work you say? "You better not have too much fun there bud, get back to making me money".
Thats exacly what i have done, i set myself a goal, be productive all day, and if you acomplish your goals, you can be rewarded with a couple of hours playing your favourite vide game.
There many good habits that you can relax without wasting your time to a pointless virtual world. Videogames are highly addictive and can mess with your mental health. Exercise, reading books, socializing are all better ways to relax with many benefits to your personal development You have one life, don't waste your time with addictive digital products like videogames.

My mom spends several hours a day on Facebook without realizing. But will say I am wasting time on my DS. Social media almost always makes me feel like shit after, not just looking at highlight reels of peoples lives, but the polarizing content and clickbait to get your attention. I often found myself arguing in the comments and just generally getting angry at the shit I saw online. Everyday I encounter a story of murder or theft or someone being cancelled for something and it’s just so toxic to me. Mario, Kirby, etc don’t give me these feelings. Then again, I’m a handheld, single player gamer. I’m not a big fan of the online gaming considering it gives those same feelings listed above. Unless I’m playing with friends, I prefer single player games. The music, art, and gameplay is so relaxing to me and I always feel better after playing. Never felt shame or anger. It’s a relaxation method for me. And because of this I can complete some tasks, and then shut off the system to play another time.

I love video games and I don't see them as a waste of time. I do many things to control my play time. This also makes me enjoy it even more. 1. I usually don't play at daylight. I mostly play when its dark outside. At least when there is good sunny wheather outside, I don't enjoy playing video games at all. Spending time outside is much more enjoyable in this situation for me. 2. I differ singleplayer from multiplayer: singleplayer is pure enjoyment and relaxing. Fun is the main point. I haven't regret playing any singleplayer game whatsoever, because I enjoyed it. So there is absolutely no waste of time. Multiplayer is different. I can relate to what you said in your video. Expectations and willing to be good at it can ruin it. However, as long as you play with your friends and enjoy it, everything's good. You can also reduce your anger potential by eliminating risk factors. E.g. make sure to play in a full team of 5 of your friends in ts at e.g. csgo. Or generally lower your expectations. Also be aware of the fact that there is always a high chance that there will be a guy who is better then you (because hes more talented or has more hours etc whatever). It's simple pretty unrealistic or even impossible to be the best at a game - be aware of that. 3. Make sure to play only if you have time for it. So doing your work that has to be done is key. Stuff like working, studying, sports, etc. For me this works great!
you didn't really waste it compared to like 99% here. You have a TH-cam channel which somewhat benefits from your video game 'addiction'. Rarely anything in this world can ever be wasted
Video games are something so special to me because they allowed amazing worlds and experiences and journeys to come alive. Games are so much more than "fun" or "addictive", it's what we get out of them. And I get so much out of them than I can quit for a couple of months, try different hobbies, be happy and content, and still feel like video games are such an amazing art form and that making them a part of my life only adds more value to it. That being said, don't expect to play video games all day and feel fulfilled, cause video games only add value to your life, they shouldn't define it. And you shouldn't cope with your problems and insecurities by immersing in them. You should breath through them to find inspiration and value and beauty or just to have some fun, but never let them breath through you. With great power comes great responsibility, you guys, and I'm sure that video games have the power to break lives, but also to make life one of the most amazing experiences ever. That is the magic of the video game art form.
No video games don't "break lives" nor are they "addictive", fun yes, but not "addictive", it DEPENDS on the people & how we use them. But yes, video games are amazing art form!
This video was spot on with my past League of Legends Addiction. I would play just to have fun and I did in season 2,3,4,5 (2012-2015) . But like this guy , I got pretty good at it and hit Diamond elo, the games pissed me off when they weren't going my way. I took out my anger on my family who did nothing wrong and I kept playing to gain back the points I lost in ranked. I would play just to go even in my ranked points, 2017 was probably the worst year of my life as I got so addicted I would cut class to go to internet cafes to play, I didn't socialize AT ALL even if girls were hitting on me in class :(, I gained weight, was depressed,I played 12 hours a day. I woke up ran to my computer and played untill night, I only got up to eat food, use bathroom,I would only go outside once every 5 days because I considered it a waste of time and pointless. At the time I was addicted to porn and sugar like soda, chocolate, etc too, yeah....I could go on and on. But now I do none of those things , lost 25 pounds or so ,socialize, am the happiest I been. I still play League but only like 2 games opposed to the 12-13 games a day. If I could do it you can do it , reply to this comment if you are in a similar situation right now. The change didn't happen instantly it took months of effort.......
Sad story bro, I'm in the same situation I'm playing Dofus and I get more and more progress every day, but I have to replace play games for progranming.
I was in the army, I got discharged and have been looking for work for over 12 months with no luck. I play the new call of duty for 16 hrs a day but I don’t want to do it I just can’t afford to go out and do anything else and I want to socialise and get friends but I have none I don’t even have any friends online yet in real life. I haven’t even been to a party, been drunk or had sleep overs and I’m 20. I want to experience life.
My brother is 22 years old and is addicted to games. He is depressed too. He is all those things you mentioned. I lent him money so he can look for a job, made a CV for him and even applied to some jobs online for him. He didn't attend the appointments... and I can't do that for him. I talked to him about his future a million times, he pretends to change for a day or two and goes back to sleeping all day, not showering and playing games all night. This scares me because I will have to move eventually. What is his life going to become?
Lol I just stopped playing after gold 3. Probably could grind more, but I wouldn't spend my whole life on this toxic game. I'm way better at enjoying my passions, dancing, playing piano and driving trains.
Right now I'm stuck on a forced abstinence of gaming because my laptop died, my mind is a mix of excitement so that I can start figuring out my future and anxiety because I don't know yet what to do with the free time since I'm on vacation. When I was daily playing games I always felt distracted from all of this, but since the day I sent my laptop to repair I've been feeling down and anxious
It has a lot do with instant gratification. When you finally finish that quest or win a game of ranked you are instantly rewarded and feel a sense of accomplishment. This behavior is very similar to partying, smoking weed, or drinking alcohol. The result is an instant pleasure that you put relatively little to no effort to enjoy. Now compare this to the thousands of hours needed to master a musical instrument and it becomes clear why you and so many others find it easier to rely on video games for gratification; because its quick and convenient. Unfortunately, as is the case for many gamers, we become exposed to instant gratification at a very young age. The only solution is to re-wire ourselves and engage our minds to be more responsive to productive behavior. Masturbating to porn has to be one of the most detrimental of all. Which is why I've since stopped doing it, as it also dulls the mind and breeds complacency. Since I've stopped, I feel like I'm significantly more focused and powerful. As men, our sexual drive is what gives us strength and motivation; If we're constantly depleting it, then we're simply wasting our potential.
Absolutely agree. More so, people who use to get easy pleasure gratification are becoming less responsive to pleasure hormones, like dopamine, so they need more and more dopamine to be satisfied. So usual life activities are becoming very dull and boring for such people
But what about hard games that require skill like dota or sc2 are those also part of the addiction or similar to learning a new skill to develop the mind. That’s where I found a flaw with the video he talks about playing relaxing games to stop frustration then plays hard games and says the frustration is bad. But I thought he said frustration is a good thing and video games ruin the sense of working hard, but then he plays video games that make him work hard and says that those games being hard is bad
elida dlr if you tried to forget that this point was your own you’d see that your “applied to anything” logic ignores his point. Of course everything is addictive because we are emotionally creatures, nobody is saying that only certain things are addictive but it’s almost always universally true that things that are easy aren’t worth doing! You should absolutely work smart not hard but that saying is incredibly enabling for lazy behaviour. You should absolutely bike to the store it’s great for your mind and body. That’s harder the driving but it’s smart. The point you miss about the instant gratification argument is that it’s the factor that makes gaming more addicting then doing homework for a high grade in a class you need! Work hard not smart and things like video games and porn give the mind chemical satisfaction without any reality based satisfaction. If not a hindering or crippling addiction due to the instant gratification factor it’s the bias towards laziness, inaction and procrastination. The factor towards doing what you want not what you need. I hope you’re able to consider the points I’m making honestly.
I just deleted the game I was most addicted to about a month ago. It's been a tough journey, but I am proud that I made it through a month. I hope that I can continue this for the rest of this year. Fingers crossed...
Games are not the problem, people who doesn't have self-control are. I follow a philosophy in which willpower is the way to achieve any goal. I play as much as I want, because my will leads me to do it and that leads me to do other activities
Truth, it’s your own fault if you are 22 and have no job living at home an not going to uni. Like you can’t blame that on gaming because it’s his fault for not making sure he had a path in life planned
I was wasting all my time with videogames for years. I still went to university and graduated, but continued playing all throughout, and even after I found my first job. I had something like 50+ days in league of legends, 2000+ hrs in Rocket league, 2000+ hrs in Fortnite, and more. I've reached top 50 on the global leaderboard in the rocket league solo duel playlist. After some time I sat down and really thought hard about the way I utilize my free time, and came to the conclusion that videogames have never paid off in any way. They've always only given me short term pleasure, and long term guilt. Once it was clear that videogames were useless to me, I deleted all of them from my computer, and began improving my software engineering skills by solving algorithm challenges / working on side projects. Doing this I am investing into my long term future. Once you get over the need for constant short term gratification, it all begins to make sense. The reason why it's so difficult for people to become successful is because they take the greedy approach to life. Their actions are meant to give them the most instant gratification that they can find. The actions that will make you successful are those that may not give you gratification for weeks, months, or even years. But after you wither the storm, and overcome the obstacles, you'll be happy that you embarked on the journey, and will reap the rewards.
Nah man I'm an instant gratification kind of guy, I ain't doing all that shit on the off chance that something good will come of it, and I'll always take the greedy approach to everything.
Accepting I have a guitar addiction when I instantly recognized the guitar tabs from Steve Vai's Tender Surrender at 1:20 haha. Computer games mess with my mind and dopamine levels and completely waste my time. Guitars don't. Play guitars guys! :D
To got nearly no negative experience means that u obviously didn't got the opportunity to learn from them. To not risk anything isn't good or helpful. It's just Cowardness. I have been in the same spot. Go out, meet girls, take risks, u won't regret it.

I love video games and always will. BUT so far my life has been ruined because of addiction. Before I bought myself a Xbox one for Christmas (Yes my parents made me pay 75% of the price.) I was destroying school, smashing out A+’s in every subject. I nearly had an idea for a possible career, played Basketball (Still do but only in my spare time, which isn’t often.) hang out with friends, all the good stuff. I quickly became addicted to the Xbox. After 4 years of gaming I’m now in my final year of school and I’m failing every subject, I have severe depression, I no longer play games for fun just for the sake of it, I have social anxiety, I left my friends because I didn’t want to dedicate myself the time to spend with them, I get anxious at work and screw up a lot, I’m skinny and unhealthy, I don’t talk to anyone even online. I also have no ambition and motivation in life. My parents tried really hard to discipline me on technology but I always found a way to game. They didn’t understand technology enough to help me. Please if you are still young, consider worrying about the time in your future not the time you missed gaming. Please. Edit: I really appreciate the support I am receiving and I will be setting out on changing my attitude towards my life at once. I have also noticed that a lot of people are believe it's my own fault and not video games. And I agree. Video games are a blessing for our generation and the last thing I want to do is dump my problems on them. My life has been ruined because of my attitude towards my addiction. I could say that I am addicted to anything other than video games but I still must admit that it's my attitude that needs to change not the problem itself. I must now work on my self control if I want a better future. (Update) - 11 months later. I’ve never been happier. For the last 9 months I have completely disciplined myself with self-control. On average I spend maybe 10 hours a month on video games, because I don’t know what ticked, but the thought of sitting there playing it bores me and makes me feel useless in some sense. And yes the few minutes I play feel great but they soon evaporate which is fine. It all started with reading and meditation. This year alone I have clocked about 27 books, 250 pages of journaling and a daily routine of 20 meditation. I managed to turn myself around in the final part of my year and I topped English with one of the highest scores. I have no idea how or what set this reaction to video games off but I could explain it as a hyperactive sensation that requires me to fill my time with meaningful tasks. I can’t remember the last type I felt depressed or lethargic. And my fitness has never been better. I’ve been hanging out with friends at the gym playing basketball for the local team and I get along with my family so well. Everything feels great. I know this transition may seem hard to believe, and trust me, I am in disbelief! The only advice I can give is to pace yourself. Only play games that have no competition (to begin with). Start by playing an hour everyday and cut your internet at a certain time to restrict yourself. Then, take a walk. Come inside and grab a book. Read for 30 minutes. Those 30 minutes earns you 30 minutes of more gaming. Soon you’ll start to feel the motivation kick in. Start to consider the things you do in the day as health benefits or harms and learn to seperate yourself from the bad. My new found passion for learning and reading makes gaming feel like a waste of time, but then I think about it as time well spent to relax and loosen the mind. Start thinking about your health and the impacts of everything you do. That’s my advice. Thanks again for all the support and criticism, because it all helped! Gaming is awesome, but life has better graphics.
This is definitely me like right now this year, sorry you’re going through this. I guess the solution would be to keep on striving man, to fill the void inside and to balance out our lives. Have work, a social life, get educated in school and have spare time for yourself where you can play games or basketball in your example or maybe some other form of entertainment. It’s just hard when none of those things make you happy and you stop striving. Maybe we should tell ourselves to stop whining and just go for it, to not give up and to keep grinding to become happier... idk you tell me what you think
agreed man, currently in senior year of hs and I play video games as an escape mechanism and just waste away. Started failing subjects and my depression picked up hard. People that think addiction is not real or is “just in your head” need to stop, this shit is real and it’s happening every day with games like fortnite and tf2. You are responsible for your actions and that’s why it’s so scary.
Sometimes , u can't escape a certain game , and just keep on playing , grinding and playing , sometimes i think about "What can give me this? And what will i achieve with this?"
yeah but you could literally find any excuse to justify your lack of ambition.. you think discipline and self control just comes naturally to everyone? maybe 1percent have a genetic predisposition to that kind of thing, but also, a lot of these highly ambitious people end up being workaholics, make some okay money, have "it all", burn out, endure a devastating existential crisis, and the stress kills them in the end.. i dunno man, just, if your inner voice says play less games, listen to that.. not having integrity is far worse than too much xbox
@Grailer most of people didn't have food shoved right into their mouth sweetheart, we need money to support ourselves, and job provide one, I'm sorry if you parents put you in cage and throw banana every now and then, it must be convenient for you
I dropped out of school because I'd played video games too much, I have not done anything for my self, I tried to learn Japanese but I failed because I'd played video games too much and don't spent the time to learn Japanese. And I realize I stop playing video games and I began to learn English, its have been 3 months I have a lot of improvement in English cause I have lot free time when I'm not playing video games, I notice that instead, I spent a thousand hours of video games I could learn a lot of things else like reading book and I might know 3 languages and play instrument.
I can't thank you enough for this wonderful video, I have been looking everywhere for information on my addiction and they just say to find a hobby. But then I'm like, I got a hobby, playing video games, and I like that better than anything else. Then you said, we don't do these hobbies because they tire us out too quick, and I realized that it's not that I don't like anything, it's that I am too lazy to improve myself! Thank you!
6k hours of csgo here. Cant relate to the things you`re stressed out of tho. The key to enjoy your lifestyle is time management. As for me i do sports 5 times a week, working in a retail job and visit university. But i can still game as long as i want because i mostly start if i have finished my to do list. I think this is possible for everyone if they just spend time on planing their day

Same. It cost me 3 years and the most wonderful girl in the world. Why am I still playing? I don't know. Almost every session ends in rage... It's stupid. The cinematics and art are great tho
It is hard these days to balance play time vs being productive, as most modern games are designed to keep you playing them as long as possible and to keep going back with things such as daily/weekly objectives, limited timed events, log in bonuses and long play times required for 'good' unlockables (or alternatively an attached price tag to those unlockables). At least with older games they had an end point. The older I get the more I realise I have much less time to play, but the games themselves demand more of my time to be played. Without giving up your entire life you will never outplay the game, so IMO it is much better to devote that energy to some form of personal development. Now I use the time I have to persue other interests, however I still keep informed about game news for the games I am interested in.
Completely with you man. And I would like to suggest to anyone who's reading this to stop playing mobile games, even casually. I only played them for 2 years as an "experiment" and they really fuck with your brain. If you really want to spend your time with videogames just BUY a good console or PC game.
Just dont play games...when u will realize it will be way too late....instead read books.....just read..dont fall into the trap of anime........and yah that news part i also do but i have got over my pubg mobile addiction
This hits really close to home. I don't play games for 24 hours straight and refuse to sleep or eat, but i do stay up late and procrastinate my goals to play games. I've wasted a lot of time playing video games; time that could have been used to learn to code, learn to write a book, exercise, etc. You only get one shot at life, and it's a crime to waste it.
I think the best way to solve this problem is to connect “fun” with “work” together. Best work when you love it, enjoy it, and has passion to this. I know that you have 1 question - “But, What is it?”. Sometimes “this” is closer than you think, sometimes ppl can steer you is right detection. Look at your interested directions, and you will see all questions that you ask before.
Right, if you find something to work with and you LOVE it, it wont be a work...because u Will have fun with It or like It a lot. But you need to know that anything Big in Life needs effort...
I once met someone on ARK survival evolve who had 489 days played, that’s 11,746 hours of his life sunk into that trash heap of a game. He’s probably well over 500 days played now at this point
Funny thing though. RUST (and I presume Ark) have crafting timers, sometimes long ones. You can set up a crafting queue in safety, that will run for an hour. Then you go have some dinner or do some chores. I once did this to craft enough C4 and rockets to wipe out a clan base. Every hour i'd come back, place the item in a box, grab more raw materials i had saved up, start up the queue again. I wasn't actively playing but it counted to my total play time because i was logged in.
That was actually a very reasonable video. Some people watch Netflix after work. Some people read books. Some people do nothing but try to get parties going. Some people play video games. I'm the latter, like you. Everyone has a hobby, something they do for fun. If you don't, something is wrong. Addiction is not the same. If what you want to do for fun the most is play video games, that's not an addiction. That's just what you enjoy doing. And I think every hobby can have its bad moments. Maybe you feel you've wasted your time reading a bad book or watching a bad movie, or you get frustrated when you still can't play that song on the guitar after all that training, or you've ended up hating the painting you've worked on for a couple days. Just like you can get frustrated at your own skills in multiplayer games - it's certainly not limited to gaming. Also, maybe your job is the most fun thing to you, and I suppose that means you're lucky... or not, because I've also read some studies on how being forced to do what would usually be fun to you has the potential to completely ruin that, but I don't know which is true. I design websites at work. That's not the most fun thing to me, but it's not a job I hate either, because it is close to what I do for fun, which is drawing cartoons and cartoon characters (aside from playing video games). I don't know if that's the most ideal kind of job in relation to your hobbies, all I can say is that I'm happy with it, and I'm not getting fatigued of gaming or drawing, either. Don't feel bad for "wasting" time doing things you enjoy. They don't have to be productive, that is just a byproduct for people who do happen to have productive hobbies. It's like feeling bad about wasting time while sleeping. You're just covering your basic human needs. @Moths, I can't help but say it... your Soldier SFM ending is getting extremely depressing :( It went from being fun to ending the video on an awkward note. I don't even know what it's supposed to mean, I just see the association with death in it. I dunno.
For me I've noticed it's much easier to regulate single player games than multiplayer games. In single player stories there's a beginning and an end. Once I get to that end I stop playing. I'm also not competing with anyone else and since it's a story based game I feel like I can leave and come back anytime. With multiplayer games it's neverending. There's always that "one more match" urge and the desire to rank up. Whenever you lose a game and are doing bad you want to keep playing so you can "end on a good note". Nowadays I mainly stick to single player games and I play games for the story. I don't want to spend my whole life sitting in my apartment playing games trying to achieve some rank that really doesn't matter. There's so much more to life than being diamond rank in league of legends or whatever game you play.
Yep, I stick to single player games as well. If I want to play witb friends, there's always co-op games like borderlands. With co-op, you're not competing with anyone and you can stop and comeback whenever you want just like singleplayer games
@@ifacecamp717 I just personally prefer single player games over multiplayer games. I'm willing to pay $60 for a game like red dead or the Witcher and I found myself not willing to pay that much for the next cod, destiny, or whatever. Many multiplayer games are designed to be addictive to keep you coming back forever and usually ends up in frustration and annoyance after enough game time. I still play some games like rainbow six siege from time to time with friends but I stopped chancing the rank. I use to just go to work from 8 to 4:30, go home, load up siege(or whatever game we're into at the time) and play with my friends until I go to bed. Then one day I noticed my life was just flying by and I had to stop and get out of my apartment more.
I also felt this kind of urge back then when I was so addicted to games such as MOBA, FPS and MMO, I always have this feeling to play more to win and get better which is why it's never ending. I never thought about this idea playing single player games which is indeed a good idea of not getting addicted in my opinion.
Pro tip: Don't play games, which you find frustrating, just because it can be amazing rarely. This is especially true in online games. And also games with a lot of grind, mostly games with microtransactions. Just uninstall them.

I too felt like garbage when playing too much videogames, until I realized they were the sole reason I learned english at a very high level, higher than any of my peers, and without taking any courses (I'm not a native speaker)
Then it all made sense, I immediately changed all of my games language to french, looked up the basics online and started playing again all day x)

AtomicToyRobot There's always a way to change thing

So let's say thats 9 hours average a day, so 9 hours * 365 days = 3285 * 2 = 6570 + 306 of the first year = 6876 hours spent with her. She cheated on me multiple times having sex with her friend.
I'd rather spent those hours on The Witcher 3, TES5 Skyrim, RDR2.

You gonna find time wasters when you don't wanna do anything productive so it is one thing or the other.
Its not like reading novels does any good. Or playing football or wrestling. Every hobby has its ups and downs. Nothing is a waste of time really.
I can second this. It's literally me the past few months
Exactly. If video games got banned the addicted players would likely just move onto something else equally as pointless and get addicted to that instead. They wouldn't suddenly become productive and motivated people.

vid maker is childish, he's so far from the truth, whatdver a man do, it's wasting time because evetyhthins is conceptual, and illusion, we dont have inherent value or meaning

Morgan Blem it all depends if the guitarist loves playing the guitar.

If it makes him happy, it`s not a waste of time at all..
when you think about how much time people waste on relationships/marriages......

I strongly agree wiith your 2nd point. Singleplayer games dont stress me out, only multiplayer ones do Cheers

Wow this should have more likes
Absolutely agree. More so, people who use to get easy pleasure gratification are becoming less responsive to pleasure hormones, like dopamine, so they need more and more dopamine to be satisfied. So usual life activities are becoming very dull and boring for such people
Straight Facts!! Thank you sir

Games are not the problem, people who doesn't have self-control are. I follow a philosophy in which willpower is the way to achieve any goal. I play as much as I want, because my will leads me to do it and that leads me to do other activities

Ew fortnite Minecraft is better
Thank you.
In university now and have no problem balancing work school and games some people just need to live in a bubble i guess
@@ebolamonkay7847 Keyword is addiction. Good thoughts, weather the storm though not wither. 😉

LuKeS yikes being on youtube dosnt help bud
(tho i get the point)

Nice pink theory. Doesn't work.
Yeah oh yeah
Right, if you find something to work with and you LOVE it, it wont be a work...because u Will have fun with It or like It a lot. But you need to know that anything Big in Life needs effort...

Ouch. Rust is also addictive like that.
Ivan Soto man, rust is probably the most addictive out there, you’re so right haha
I dunno.

Thank you for opening my eye,I have to stop playing all day.
But I have alot of good times with friends in multiplayer games. You dont have that in singleplayer games.
Yep, I stick to single player games as well. If I want to play witb friends, there's always co-op games like borderlands. With co-op, you're not competing with anyone and you can stop and comeback whenever you want just like singleplayer games
I like to keep it social so I do not play singleplayer games.
