Oh yeah I guess I forgot one thing. Apparently one of the ideas for Fake Peppino's boss fight was for it to be a dance battle against him. Possibly using the song "Ain't got time to dance" and "No time 2 boogie woogie". But it doesn't have many concrete details.
Mcpig said that fake pep would either grab, taunt or jump, and u would need to copy his moves while avoiding obstacles, so kinda gives a image of what this fight would've been (also on a side note, in the reworked mansion, there was a idea where u would get covered in sticky cheese, wich would activate fake pep, who would try to lick the cheese off you, but the idea was never brought to life)

I feel like his overall theme is a goofy cryptid. He’s goofy, but he’s still a horrifying creature.
I feel like from the clones in war, I got the impression someone, probably pizzaface, tried to clone Peppino. Don’t know why, maybe pizzas are immortal and he wanted a friend or he was just bored and wanted to try and clone a human. The cheese could be a way of creating some solid mass for the DNA to stick to, which would explain how he can melt into the floor and create copies of himself, while the frog part is probably because Peppino has a super jump that no one else could do.
It looks like at first, he was supposed to be more mysterious and have his own mansion, but eventually became a goofy fella who’s just happy to have friends, or people who tolerate him or aren’t afraid of him or something.
He’s just a happy lad vibing to whatever’s happening. He still has no idea what to do or how to act, so he just copies Peppino, since that’s what he was made for.

man this video is awesome. when the game came out i thought fake pep was a recent idea, but to my surprise he (and many other things in the game) was pretty much planned from the beginning

One thing I like about the Fake Peppino battle that I never see talked about is how his jump and body slam attack is a reference to Peppino’s old demo 0 body slam animation as well as (possibly) his demo 0 high jump.
I never thought of that. That's great.

The Crumbling Tower of Pizza:
I checked the 2019 April build to see how Fake Peppino acted in the Sewer level; He's honestly not really any different from how he acts in the other levels, though he does spawn in from the ceiling, since Sewer's one of two classic Patreon levels to have its treasure be accessed in a vertical path, instead of horizontal. The other being Factory, where Fake Peppino spawns below the floor instead.
Also, interesting note about the Mansion level; Although the January - April 2019 Patreon builds and 2021 builds are the only ones where Mansion can be accessed normally, it also exists in every other build, starting with the Grinch Race build (where the Mansion level had its collision implemented, but not its tileset/background. A revised version of the classic Mansion level can be first found in the Desert 2019 build, along with the Factory and Sewer levels, however they are very unstable since they rely on code and sounds that were temporarily missing.
Interestingly, all three versions of the Mansion level have survived in the final game, although they all have at least one inescapable instance of a game crash (plus the 2019 level doesn't have working room transitions, as don't the other leftover 2019 levels); For the 2019 level, it's the breakable TV object. Two rooms crash in the April level, and the farmers' required code is absent in the Rework level. The April level also interestingly had been almost completely tiled in the Rework build, and is by far one of the most complete of the post-SAGE unused levels in the final game (though like I said, all the Mansion levels have at least one crash in them). There's a video on TCRF that shows the April Mansion level working in the Eggplant build, although modifications were made to get it to not crash.

Correction; It was actually originally made for either Kung Fu City (An unused level which possibly got reworked into The Pig City) or Oh Shit!, originally under the name, Slimy Pizza.
I honestly really like the idea of Goopino (calling him "Fake" feels a bit too mean) as a little creature. As in, your description of him as a curious animal, or a spider you see suddenly. The frog associations are obvious, but his legs being very sharp and stilt-like, and him sticking to a wall with them bent at that angle... I feel like him being a frog/spider kind of creature, while Peppino himself kiiiiinda looks like a beetle or a busy bee would be a nice little "natural predator and prey" kind of dynamic.
Especially given how Goopino reads more like a silly goofy critter to me, rather than some sort of a Gorefield kind of malicious eldritch entity. Him being animalistic rather than actually evil is more interesting, and makes him more threatening, because when a consciously evil creature can be reasoned with or scared into submission, an animal won't listen, and will only get more aggressive, when scared. But, just like the spider you see, he's just hangin' out. No need to yell or try to kill him.
None of this actually occurred to me - despite my hyperfixating on this game for months now - until you said it, so, thanks for that, and the very in-depth video! I don't think I could go through that Mansion level without actually killing someone, so you're a real trooper.
It was cut from the video due to the recording of the line sucking a lot, but I had a small remark on his name. Which is that I really like the simplicity of the name "Fake Peppino" because it's just so comically blunt to what he is. It's not Peppino's name backwards or some kinda elaborate pun or anything. He's just the imitation, it's as cynically simple as it gets. It really does harken back to stupid names in like Rayman 1, like "bad rayman" or "mr. dark" or really just about any of the "mr." characters.

While I do like the silly lil goober we got in the final game I honestly miss the old Pep, just something about a monster that is loosely copying you chasing you through the level in short bursts is anxiety-inducing, like an uncanny valley effect
It's not a killing machine that doesn't stop at any point like Gigamonty of the Pizzaplex, it's not a monster that just messes with you like the thing in It Steals, it's not even The Thing that pretends to be friendly only to brutally devour you, it's just _something_ that follows you slowly and stabs with it's tongue when it has a chance
The Clones don't bring back that nostalgia since you can kill them, and you have the shotgun in the level that is super intense, old Pep was fully invincible in a normal level and you really couldn't do anything about him
Wonder if next content for Pizza Tower will give Pep his old role for at least a level, genuinely the only thing that unsettled me in the earlier builds

i know this is a dude trust me thing but i was part of the pt server when it was still in its beta, lights out was a unmade level wiht a light mechanic, it wasnt a tunnel it was to be a apartment complex almost such as the apartment level in wario land 4 with a similar light mechanic, though if i remembers correctly. the lights in the level would only cut out after entering the long tunnel youd see fake pep, and the lights owuld cut before a chase takes place (keep in mind this is phone gamed from mc pig talking about possible ways the conceptual level would function)
the gameplay of the level was never really done but most things turned into the fake pep today. like the dark tunnel and the escape along with his eventual mansion level form
Fun fact: Fake Peppino's hit animation is based on one of Noise's hit animations

@@antoniovilar63 I'm talking about the one heard in the final game. The one that was heard in the demos was ripped straight from Wario Land 4, but they had to change it for obvious reasons, so they had Kyoobot remake the sample. If you listen to both the final version and the WIP version of "It's Pizza Time" you'll definitely hear the difference
This is just a random comment but I wanted to post this opinion on a video that's about fake Pep's design
Honestly, as a horror artist, fake Peppino is really fun and pretty easy to draw, as I usually go for more realistic body proportions than cartoony, which makes it hard for me to draw the characters in Pizza Tower, but because FP is supposed to be horribly disfigured and made of dough, I can go apeshit with his design and not turn an eye because I can draw a cartoony body without breaking the rules of my art style
If there was a fake peppino level in the final game, i hope he could like, kill a cheeseslime in the 1st room to taunt you (like he does with john in that one concept) and it would add to your combo and still let you have no enemies for eeriness purposes

i think the "pepperman selling the mansion to peppino" thing is a reference to luigi's mansion with the haunted mansion being sold to luigi, much like the phantom tower music is also luigi's mansion inspired

anyways now this just gets me thinking about the funny history of Vigilante/cowboy cheeseslime... from a humble megaman 8bit deathmatch skin to a boss in the game...
Vigilante is a funny one. I really do hope he eventually gets his spotlight as a main character someday, he's got Meta knight energy and it's awesome.
@@Droglodyte he's especially memorable for me for all the hype and buildup there was to his reveal in the discord. i very vividly remember him playing out a big reference to the spongebob episode where patrick has the secret box he wont let spongebob see inside in the general chat. it's also especially funny for me since vigilante used to just be as scared and nervous as any other cheeseslime

You said it. They're horrible. I've come to realize what they expect you to do is bait them into kicking once and then they have a recharge until kicking again, but it's unintuitive and also just doesn't work regardless...

Huh... With the context that PIZZA TIME NEVER ENDS was going to be the first music to play in the final level -- along with the original title sounding like an attempt at motivation -- that context makes the song sound exhausted, *struggling* to get going, like Peppino's trying to tell himself, "Okay, Peppino... *huff, huff* You're almost home... Just keep it up a little bit longer..."
Oh, and that Mansion concept sounds like it could be its own game, honestly.
Ha. I like that interpretation. It does have little moments that it sounds triumphant, and right at the end it speeds up just like the normal Pizza Time. Which I'm pretty sure isn't included in the final game's loop or the fight is much too short for it.

SAGE fakepep crashes you because the healthbar doesnt exist, and it tries to play a sound but "fails". The sound plays but it immediately crashes the game afterwards.
Oh and if you spawn him in retail, he acts like a shadow/cosmic clone from the Mario series.

Being odd wouldn't be a big deal. Streamlining Mansion to the P rank format of the final game was what made it unreasonable to keep I'm pretty sure., as well making assets for the various different rooms to make them unique and recognizable within the house.
@@Droglodyte thats the reason mansion got scrapped, not why floor 5 has only 3 levels. that reason is because the crumbling tower of pizza is the 4th level of floor 5 technically
@@Womoisreal So you mean a 4th spooky level wasn't made because Crumbling Tower fills the quota? Guess that's a fair assumption. Tho I personally wouldn't count it, more so its own thing. And CToP has been stated to be just a cool spectacle that syncs to the music than a real level.
@@Droglodyte Yeah! Kinda like how the tutorial is technically a level - giving floor one five levels. But no one actually sees the tutorial as an actual level, just like how CToP isn't an actual level - just a mad dash to the bottom of the tower.

There is no proof that he is *actively* trying to be like Peppino. There is no proof that he *wants* to smile all the time. There is no proof that he was intentionally created, and the game's development history indicates that the clones are copies of him, not the other way around - hence the need for frog DNA to keep them stable.
In fact, when people presented multiple theories about his possible origin, McPig took the same stance as the creator of Courage the Cowardly Dog: believe whatever theory you want, because he certainly doesn't know. Looking at Mcpig's concepts and occasional mentions of the character, it seems the idea was always just for him to be an unexpected, unexplained, and thoroughly unpleasant surprise. Just a spook. Peppino, but *too much.*
As for the tongue color, I'd argue that the cheese is less gross, because then you at least know what it's made of. The red tongue opens up a lot more nasty possibilities, including but not limited to: alien body snatcher, reanimated corpse, and obsessed human. I do agree that Bruno is not his name, though. It seems far more likely that there's just a graveyard of abandoned restaurants in the tower, like some morbid trophy collection.
What a rant! You know what's funny about it? He's not my favorite character. I WANT to like *all* of them, but people constantly assuming his permanent smile is from being happy/friendly bothers me and makes me think about him more.
I mean of course the whole video is from my own experience and interpretation of the character only. It's the only one I have, because I'm me!
My "character analysis" is also partially not serious at all and just how I see him. I'm not trying to make "Fake Peppino EXPLAINED: Essay".
But at least with the credits I feel like it's very overt that either he always somehow does the same thing as Peppino on accident or by nature, with the trash bag and Halloween party and all.
I also think it's not because he's mysterious that his deal has to be much more complex than the other very simplistic characters. So "guy that's creepy because he's copying someone else badly but is having a good time" feels right to me. As opposed to "guy (Bruno) who was mutated into a tortured perpetually smiling mutant who now is forced to enact someone else's role because he doesn't know who he is" just feels too unlike the final game and fanfic-y.
I can't get too hung up on his lore tho. Because obviously it doesn't matter to his actual portrayal, he's fun either way. It's PIZZA TOWER. It's just fun thinking about these things.
@Droglodyte Sure, that's valid. The main reason I wrote all that was because there's too many people out there who just blindly repeat what they heard on internet instead of considering the facts and drawing their own conclusions. I hope at least one of those parrots-with-phones reads what I said and stops to really think about it, instead of just assuming *everything* you said about the character was pure canon.
@@dalehayden3830 I guess I know what you mean. But playing unofficial "lore keeper" is very frustrating. Specially on a silly property or that has lots of kids fans like this. Most people don't care at all and just cling onto something they hear, and that's fine. Tho sometimes it goes a little far in stating that as absolute truth to the degree of shutting down others. Just don't stress over too hard over what's "definitive proof".

Tunnely Shimbers was actually meant for Act 2 of Sewer at one point, not for Lights Out.
Sounds fake and Peppino. Where you heard this? From what I knew Bite the Crust was the second Sewer song, and it shares the same "filth" theme as Tubular Trash. Tunnely sounds nothing like either, and I always heard it was meant for Dark Tunnel.
@@DroglodyteTunnely Shimbers was also considered at one point. The early OST leak confirms this because the filename of the WIP is "EARLY_WIP_Sewer_level_act_2_-_Slimmy_Pizza".
