I missed a recruiter's call and saw it on my phone. I thought I scheduled it for Wednesday and thought it was a telemarketer. I was able to reschedule, but I knew the guy thought I was a bad fit. I was super prepared, but that minor mistake messed me up on a potentially high paying job. Good thing I had an interview earlier that day with another company and today's my 2nd interview with them 😁.

Hi Jeff, thank you so much for the content. I've watched most of your videos and learned a lot.
I kind of used the mindset and logics to answer a GCA question today from my recruiter about the Agency Account Strategist position, which was that "you have 100 clients, but you only have 3 weeks, and you have just achieved 40% of your targets and what are you going to deal with this situation".
I answered the question by asking for more clarifications about the priority of the team , is it ROI, or is it how "critical"the project is, or is it the amount of budget etc. and she said I should assume it by myself. And then I said that I would manage this by using excel or Monday at first, and prioritize the list according to the deadline, the urgent of objectives, the risk that we may hold if we delay, the amount of budget or the resources we have etc. And after the interview, when I got the time to ask her questions, I asked are there any gaps or skills needed that I do not have? She said that I should answer this question with details, say what exact actions/tactics that I am going to take instead of introducing the strategies. I was so confused, but I still sent the following content to her later in the follow up email and I hope it helped. Could you please give me some insights? Thank you so much.
"For my answer to the first scenario, I think it's necessary to explain more to you:
When I have 100 clients, 3 weeks to finish 60% of my achievements, I would still expect
    1. to try my best to let all of my clients satisfied
    2. to get the work done and try to achieve the business objectives as planned
To realize the first goal, I would
    A. separate my clients into three categories, which include urgent, less urgent, least urgent, instead of important or not, because they are all important (split 10 days to the most urgent group, 6 to the less urgent group and 5 days for the least urgent group)
-by using Monday or creating Excel forms to list and organize client information clearly including client's needs, objectives, due dates, budget, etc.
-list them in order of highest to lowest priority based on the due dates first, and adjust it according to how "critical" "dangerous" to the team/department, or based on potential ROI or the company's objectives, or based on clients sentiment level in order to avoid losing loyalty
-review the list of clients and identify if there are opportunities for them if we extend the timeline
    B. communicate with clients
-the group of least urgent clients:
    -explain with the situation
-provide insightful market insights or business advice and let them know possible opportunities if the timeline has been extended, eg. We are going to meet the next long weekend in the U.S if we extend our timeline to one more week
-try to meet the targets, apologize when necessary and discuss what compensations we can offer such as gifts, free subscriptions, etc.
-the group of urgent and less urgent clients:
-discuss if it's possible to extend the timeline
-identify if there is historical data that can be taken as reference such as surveys, records, reports etc.
-work with internal teams such as technical team, PR team from the client side to accelerate the speed
To realize the second goal, I would
    A. take extra effort to communicate with the team and supervisor
-showing reports, infographics, presentations to emphasize the situation, and discuss with the team and see what to do next
-working with other internal teams to identify opportunities to accelerate the progress
    B. learn from the lesson and avoid it again
    -summarize why this situation/workload happened
-organize the timeline properly before starting the implementation next time

Yunshu, I always want you to get into the details in your solution, but setting the stage with a good framework is also critical. Good luck!

    Great video, Jeff. So helpful.
I do have a question. I am currently in Los Angeles but the ad says 5 locations are available. It doesn't list remote.
The closest city would be MTV. I am okay with that. I have visited the MTV campus as a TVC.
Am I able to negotiate working remotely? Right now, Google is using the hybrid model but with people getting Covid notifications everyday, I do not feel comfortable being on campus.
How can I bring this up? I am new to negotiations. I know colleagues from previous jobs have gone remote as part of their package.

    • @jeffhsipepi

  • @tracy7275
    @tracy7275 ปีที่แล้ว +1

Hopefully the candidate is able to read the room or vibe - asking 20 questions to a recruiter may not be prudent in all situations

    • @jeffhsipepi
      @jeffhsipepi  ปีที่แล้ว +1

Tracy, 100%!!! It is a lot of questions and they can be prefaced by simply telling the Recruiter, "I like to ask a lot of questions, cut me off any time." And also by checking in while asking and making sure it is okay to proceed. But it is also the Recruiter's job to answer questions and if they reject a candidate for asking too many that would be really sad. Of course, I agree, since we cannot control what they do, we want to make sure we pick up on the verbal, sometimes non-verbal cues to stop asking!

Hi Jeff! Thanks so so much for making this type of videos, they’ve been very helpful in my job search. I have a question - so I applied to Google for a couple of senior roles. I heard back from a recruiter but for a different position that is not a senior role (so more like an entry level) asking if I’m interested. I’ve been working as a senior for about 5 years so it kind of feels like a demotion. I’m connecting with the recruiter soon. Should I share my concern upfront? I don’t want to miss an opportunity bc it is my dream to work at Google, but at the same time I’m not sure if it would be better to ask her for other available opportunities instead (now and in the future). Appreciate your input on this. Thanks!!
