Technically speaking the AI says that water backing into the drive core is what causes the explosion, not a reactor meltdown. I don't believe repairing the reactor would have changed anything. Probably why the captain and other crew who could have tried to save the ship abandoned her.
I know this is late, but the captain actually went down with his ship. He heroically stayed behind to try and bring it in for the softest landing he could manage so that any survivors would have more supplies to scavenge even though he knew he would die in the crash no matter what.
To be fair all we did was reseal the breaches to prevent the water from filling in more, the bulk of the damage has already been dealt. The only way to repair it would be to prevent the reactor from having any further reactions with the water or figure out how to drain out most of the water out from it's drive core
The best part about the glitch to get into the ship early is that as a result of that existing the speed run for this game is so fast that you leave the planet in your own rocket before the Sunbeam even gets a chance to call you since the trigger for that is time based and the run is sub 30 minutes.
So if you pull this off it becomes canon that the sunbeam detects your distress call, comes to assist and instead ends up finding you in a rocket on your way out of the system.
@Nyghtking does this trigger really exist? I think I'll test that tomorrow, just cheat a bit, explore Aurora before the explosion, find plans, build a rocket and escape before the first escape pod comes in and maybe I'll be picked up directly by the Sunbeam.
It would be possible to beat the game after aurora has exploded and sunbeam will arrive soon (Timer on screen). Then you could think that you save them from dying since the canon is off! 🤣
I havent launched the rocket yet (got there in a prior run but dithered about launching it), but it would be cool if someone made a mod that played that out

When your repairing the reactor your only repairing the external casing. All of the internal damage has been done and a simple repair tool can't fix that.
The only thing that will make me replay is I’ve had this idea to build a base in every biome. (I know not original) but it’s almost like my PlayStation can’t handle that many assets 😭😭 but there is something about building a comfortable area in an otherwise dangerous place yk. Super cool

They actually planned on that being one way off the planet was by doing exactly that after first contact from the sunbeam they give you so much time to be able to figure out a cure and make it off the planet safely but the problem was because of the kind of story they were telling it would've made seem kinda bad if it that way because of it was that easy to get off the planet in the first place then their wouldn't be any need for the kind of game we have now in fact Subnautica would've been a much different game because of this so they scrapped the idea but kept the sunbeam encounter made it a new story tie in instead and then they wrote a whole new detail out for the ship itself to be able to match with the story they were going for
last time i went there i found 10 reaper leviathans chasing me only 6 hours of gameplay and im abt to get smoked without even a seamoth blueprint and i already got a cyclops blueprint

I actually was surprised the scripted event still happened because I'm used to Skyrim where if you force one scripted event out of order it will break the prior scripts and prevent them from happening. I assumed the entire game would softlock when the aurora is repaired out of order

God i wish there was a mod to restore the aurora.... Im autistic so im super sentimental, and i hated seeing the aurora wind up in the state it was in, it felt like a dishonor to the aurora and her former crew not to extinguish every fire, and reposition all furniture and items in every playthrough
intresting cause when i played and did the repairs it NEVER exploded. i think the pass through walls glitch may have made the triggers not go off resulting in you getting the explosion and not the saved. yes i have gone back and some times waited for it to go boom but nothing happened if you repair it.

Literally none. It doesn't change anything. You just repair it for fun, and to find the prawn or cyclops upgrade you find in there
