    As of 7/24/2022, the trail is safe to do again. Just be careful for new rock slides. CORE has just cleared the Boulders (a great off-road organization that works to keep trails open, check them out and I’d recommend joining them… I believe in them so much that we are a small sponsor of their efforts).

      Thanks for the great video and the update! Some buddies and I will be in the area in a couple weeks and I hoped it would be open by then. I will check CORE out.

    Hey Dewie, I want to thank you. I found this channel looking to see what my Renegade could do. I ended up planning a full week trip to Colorado. I actually traded the Renegade for a 2dr Wrangler Rubicon. We spent half a week in the Boulder area and half a week in Ouray. We did the Switzerland Trail, Loch Lomond (to the gate), Chinns Lake, Engineer Pass, and Ophir Pass. We had a blast. So amazing. Amazed (or maybe not so much after watching your channel) how capable a stock Rubicon is.
    Thanks again. Already planning the next trip.

    Hey Guys! Sorry about the lack of trail guides (work has been nonstop), but I think I came up with a solution as I want to get you good trail info while you can still do these trails. I drive this road often, (though I haven’t been all the way up Mt. Baldy) in my 2005 Dodge Dakota 4x4 with All-Terrain tires. It’s definitely a pretty beatup trail from time to time, but for the most part you really only need 4 High for the worst parts.
    Like I said, I haven’t gone up baldy, but I’ve driven most of the rest of the trail surrounding the base of the road up baldy. Super high exposed shelf roads are freaky to me.
    Also, the trail that goes along the base of Mt. Rosa is FS 379, also called Frosty Park.

    I drove a jeep JL rubicon with a manual transmission off-road and I liked being in 4 Low off-road more than 4 High. I used 4 Low all the time even when not rock crawling. I could smell the clutch heating up when using 4 High off-road. The only issue with the rubicon is the 4:1 ratio that limits top speed. Just my preference to use 4 Low.

    • @coloradomallcrawlers
      @coloradomallcrawlers  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I get that! I don’t have any issues in 4high, but I’ll keep an eye out for that.

    • @erikschutzman2402
      @erikschutzman2402 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@coloradomallcrawlers Oh, also the jeep I was in was a 4 door jeep, and it was weighted down with 2 other passengers and camping gear, so that is probably why the jeep I was in liked 4 Low. Your jeep is probably 1,000 lbs lighter, so 4 High works swell.

      Bought an ‘07 Sequoia. It's much better for road trips; the rear axle flex is amazing and the 2UZ is hands down more reliable than the VG33ER. Down side is the weight and the size.

    So many memories.. got stuck in the ol 60 where you met up with Chris trying to rescue my buddy with a good 2ft on snow on the ground. Then had a memory of being stuck in the middle of that big field before you got to the Rockslide with 3 other guys in my 06 TJ. There used to be a road through it and it was around midnight so we had no idea where we were going. Stuck frame deep in mud and we ended up staying in the jeep until morning haha

      My work essentially forced me to GJ last year as I wanted to work (They kept Denver so short that I was constantly getting bumped so I wasn’t working consistently). I was doing a mix of my camper and staying with friends in PBurg & GJ, but my home remained in Denver. I want to like my job again so I’m thinking of permanently moving to Junction next year!
