If my nephew didn’t have the upbringing that he’s had, he could have easily done something like this, not because he’s a tall teenager, but because his parents didn’t raise him correctly.
That is exactly what will happen and its a joke.. Every coastal county here in Fla has a community service program which involves picking up trash from the beach. Especially for littering cases. The supervisor tells you to you to walk down the beach pick up trash and come back in 4 hours. The kids just go to a trash can on the beach fill up there bag and then lay out on the beach for four hours.. It really accomplishes nothing. It's not punishment. A better idea is to take away the kids phone and social media for a year. For today's teens that would be torture.
I know right? delusional. Not only that, this "child" had the lives of how many other people in his hands? People scoff at the responsibility of being a boat captain but don't realize it's not like a car where if you get into trouble you can just pull off the road and wait for help.
I’m glad this was plastered all over social media. I’m a boater and none of us would ever think of throwing trash in any waterway. Kids and entitled little snot. Drinking underage with enablers for parents.

District attorney already admitted they only went after them because of public pressure. When the cop says, "Unfortunately, I have to put you in handcuff. don't worry, it won't be on long" tells me otherwise.
The parents were just annoyed that the public saw it and forced the cops to do something. Now ask yourself why no one knows what happened next. It's because those parents made a few calls, made a few "donations", and made it all go away.
where do you think the alcohol came from? I bet those youngsters didn't buy it by themselves, it will be financed or purchased for them by the parents.

This is kinda sad. The OP seems to be angry that he was unjustifiably robbed for a wrapper. Yet is also angry that these people don't also face the same injustice.
ok, and you were cited for a civil infraction and these kids are being charged with a 3rd degree felony. I'm not sticking up for these scum kids. However, you, I'm assuming were not placed in cuffs, taken to jail, mug shot, fingerprinted, etc. But your "crime" and their CRIME are 2 different things. The public pressure is good to hopefully not let kids that attorney up get away with this.
Lawyer expected no physical arrest. Why would he expect that? A felony with with strong evidence should not be swept away by sleazy lawyers and rich parents. The boat should be confiscated.
I'll never forget when I was about 8, I threw an empty soda can out the window while we were driving. My dad caught it in the rearview mirror. There was no convenient way to turn around, but he took the time to work his way back and made me get out of the car and pick it up. I remember being so embarrassed by it. Never did anything like it again. Too much permissive parenting these days.
The parents telling us how great their kids are.. obviously if your letting your 16 or 17 year old get tattoos then they have zero control of these kids
@robertherbrand6050 The statement appears to be self-contradictory. If the parents provided permission, it suggests a degree of control over the situation. This implies that the parents had the option to withhold permission.
Respectfully, getting a tattoo at the age of 16 or 17 is legal in Florida. The parents don’t have a say. In other states the legal age is 18. I will admit that at 16, the brain is still developing and making a life time choice at that age is not a well thought out decision.

I told both my sons when they were young that if they broke the law and got arrested, I would not bail them out. My youngest son got in minor trouble in elementary school, and his punishment was a week of emptying garbage cans at the school on recess and after school, and no play time at home, only chores. Neither son ever got in trouble again.
What happened to any of them? We don't know, because they're rich, entitled, and get to make it all just magically go away. The system is literally there to serve people like them while holding you down.
Ya, police can tell you whatever they want, weather they're being honest or not. That mother would hate herself forever if she let the kid talk to him and the cop ended up getting him wrapped up in the charges.
Never talk to the police without a lawyer even as a witness only!!! I was just a "witness" once and the day after I made a statement about what I saw they returned and arrested me!!! Because I told them I ate at the Burger King before going to the store where I saw the person that robbed the store and ran out past me. Well the cop said when he questioned the suspect when they caught him he said he ate at Burger King after the robbery and then went home where they arrested him hours later. So the cop heard us both mention Burger King he went and looked at the tapes and when I walked in I didn't get right in line I went into the bathroom first than got in line to order , that was the same thing the criminal did and he knows I handed him off something I hid in the bathroom, I was like I have no fucking idea what you are talking about. Well it was enough for them to get a arrest warrant and then make up this whole story about how I was part of the whole robbery because I went to the bathroom before getting in line first , I had to get a lawyer and the case dragged on for over 4 years all because I talked to the police as a witness 😊
The keep changing definition of felony every single day. I mean, this is not a crime of the century. They need to learn their lesson and be handled. But they have made such a big deal of this to. There’s no defense for what this guy did but just because he’s tall doesn’t mean his brain is fully developed. My 16 year old nephew is 6’2” and very smart, but he’s smart for 16.

Respectfully, getting a tattoo at the age of 16 or 17 is legal in Florida. The parents don’t have a say. In other states the legal age is 18. I will admit that at 16, the brain is still developing and making a life time choice at that age is not a well thought out decision.
