Starting Pincushion Flowers Seed to One Month Seedlings

My flower farm is just growing! I discovered the pincushion flower last year, but never tried to grow it. It's complete unique! Floret states that pincushion flowers "are an easy to grow must have!!". We'll go through starting from seed, include a growing tip from Johnny's seeds, and follow up with our first true leaves!

I just started 30 pincushions 2 days ago in a paper towel and zip lock bag and left in my boiler room at work (@80 degrees all the time). Less than 48hrs later I have small green poking out of all the seeds (100% germination) and have now planted them in cell trays. 🤷🏼‍♂️ will update later.

My Oxford Blue seeds that I bought from etsy look just like yours. The shells look like fans but inside there are dark seeds like the ones you have. I heard that you're supposed to sow them with the shells on.

One of the seeds have been cleaned. The other has not. They will both grow.

I’m struggling with snapdragons that want grow . Slow as molasses. I would like to be a “plant killer” with these snaps... NO patience! Great job with your scab-babies.

Snapdragons do grow super slowly 🐌! But Snapdragons are my favorites to start because they don't mind root disturbance. 😁

I notice that thinning helps with the snaps and also try fox farm and under water. As soon as I up plant they grow bigger and are ready to pinch back. I hope your next batch goes awesome!

I wish we could grow the pincushion flowers better! we tried last year and they just didn't thrive!

I can normally get everything to germinate. It's keeping it alive after that's the hard part. 😅

Yes, keep trying! I had them come up no problem in a 70 degrees Fahrenheit room under a grow light with dome on. I hope they'll start germinating soon for you.

How are they today!? I only has a few Scabiosa "Fama" that made it ... after I started them way back in feb. But my zone is not ready for a while. I think I started way too soon.

So far they're happy put in the field. They're just not starting to get a little bigger in the ground.
