Outstanding presentation. I learned some things even though I've done this before. Keep it up. Thanks.

How do I do the opposite? I have FAA Authorization to fly in an area but the Geo-unlock won't work for DJI Flysafe (and there are obvious border issues at times)

Our company encountered something regarding this that nobody seems to have an answer for. Terrain Following in unlocked DJI Geo Zones. At this moment we are unable to perform our mapping mission (survey company) because although we have unlocked the Geo Zone up to 400ft, we need to terrain follow in this same area going up approximately 1,000ft from the take off point. We will always be under 400AGL but the unlocked Geozone only will allow our M300 to go 400ft above takeoff elevation. The GeoZone doesn't take into account our need for terrain following. This is a pretty big oversight for those doing topography mapping with the P1 or L1 and M300 systems.

Interesting - I believe that there should be a way to accomplish this, but would need to have more information as to the specific circumstances that you are encountering. How large is the elevation change (lowest point to highest) that you would need to capture? What type of GeoZone is being unlocked - Restricted, Altitude, Authorization, or Warning zone? Have you tried getting an authorization through the DroneZone or only through LAANC? I would be interested in exploring some options and coming up with a solution for this scenario if you don't mind sharing some of the info above.

5:34 why would the areas change based on type of drone?

We also use terrain following for our M300 RTK for LiDAR survey, we received the pop up warning that we were in an altitude zone, but according to the fly-safe site we were not. The drone would only go up to maybe 25-30ft due to the GEO zone restriction, instead of the preset 250ft which is what we typically fly from the ground for survey. I went through the process of applying for permission through DJI but it said we need to submit proof from an authority. I looked into applying through LAANC and there is no restriction in this area through FAA so of course I can't get clearance for an area that doesn't need clearance. I'm lost on this one, do you have any thoughts? I can provide coordinates if you'd like.

Thanks for watching and commenting! The first thing I would recommend is to make sure that your flysafe database (and firmware) are all up to date. If you don't mind sharing the location, I would be happy to take a look to see if I can provide any assistance.

I will check into that! The site is located just a few miles north of Ohioville, Pennsylvania between the state border and route 168. Probably shouldn't share the actual location online for privacy. There are a few airports with altitude zones and blue authorization zones in the area but this location does not fall in any of those zones. And even if it was in an altitude zone wouldn't the drone still be able to go up to the 60m cap or what ever its set at? Thanks!! @@v1dronemedia696

It appears everything is up to date on the remote. The site is located just a few miles north of Ohioville, Pennsylvania, between the Ohio border and route 376. According to DJI Fly-safe and LAANC there aren't any geo zone polygons or restrictions covering that area. The Beaver Falls airport isn't too far from there but I've flown at sites closer to that airport which were in the enhanced warning zone with no problem. The pop up on the remote at this site just says there is an altitude zone and the drone won't go above 25-30ft, but that isn't on the map either.

So in order to unlock the drone in an Authorization Zone i need to first get the authorization from FAA. But since DJI let's you unlock, what happens to those people that unlock their DJI drone without getting the OK from the FAA first?

If a pilot does not first receive FAA authorization to fly in a DJI geo fenced authorization zone, then they would be flying illegally in that area since they did not get approval from the FAA first. The drone will still let you takeoff in an authorization zone (once you go through the safety prompts that pop up on the controller), but If the pilot were to get caught flying without having FAA authorization (approval), then there could be repercussions for this.
