Page mandated bass played with a pick was a genius move. So completely fit the tightness of their attack. When Frank Bello is okay with playing with a pick, you know it’s gold.
So many bands did better versions of their songs when they did Peel sessions. Was it a better production team? Was it because they were rushed? Who knows, but I generally love Peel session stuff!
"There was a unique video shot to this version, but its not on TH-cam anymore. Upset days" What do we need to do to hunt it down? We that make up Posterity have some kind of obligation to keep this kind of thing alive
Fuck all the 90’s bands that Helmet influenced. These vatos are triple OGs and Deftones, chevelle, SOAD, Etc etc need to acknowledge Helmet was their daddy
seen HELMET several times (90's) but I got to say none better than when in 1991-92 opening for SEPULTURA & MINISTRY in S.F it was an Awesome night show. Still love these guys and Quicksand, Nudeswirl, Surgery and Sugartooth. yeah I know, only one of these even comes close to Helmet. Quicksand. DefTones were also close but ... no Cigar.
Only 4 songs were performed. I uploaded 3 of them on my old account (this one, Rude, and Sinatra). The 4th song is Your Head, which can be found in better quality on Born Annoying.
I don't like this version - it has too much static. The video posted by Noble the Heathen has it clearer. I guess cause it was ripped right from a vinyl. this version sounds pretty lo-fi and garbled.
This is peak Helmet. So fucking primal, that riff. 30 years on and it still gets full volume treatment when I hear it.
Helmet's on? Full volume. Every time
It just made me mosh in my fucking kitchen.
This is awesome but if you think this is peak Helmet I suggest you listen to Betty again. That album is a masterpiece.
Helmet was and is essential to metal
One of the first bands I admired when I listened to rock music at 14 years old. Their albums in the 90s is still relevant.
and Rock in General.
That bass tone!
True

The bass is so far superior on this version. Particularly the finale

Showin off for Mr. Peel
Heavier guitar riffs than the original.
peelier
Nick Fuentes is right about US politics.
This technically is the original I’m pretty sure, in that they recorded this before they recorded the version on Meantime.
didn't know it was possible for this song to be heavier.
Best sounding snare ever.
You know... It's because its raw is why we love it!
Many times the demo or the first version of a song is the best. And many times the heaviest.
wow - ive known this song since 92 or so, but never heard thisversion!
Daaaamn this should be on vinyl if it isn't already
if im not mistaken amphetamine reptile put this version out as a 7" with "your head" as the b-side back in '91
Indeed they did. Also, these 3 Peel songs were released on vinyl back in the '90s, but not officially. That's the source of the 3 songs actually.
It would melt
B version or studio version, it's still an awesome song. Thanks for sharing.

Those BBC engineers knew their stuff. I always preferred the Peel version of Shellac's Crow too.
'In my top ten favourite songs; play this at my funeral!'
Was just saying exactly the same.
what a great song !!! thanX for sharin' it. makes me wanna GO SKATEBOARDING

This sounds like if Rites of Spring was covering it.
So fu**ing good. Should have 2 million views
this was the version in the alternate music video.
Thanks for this.

DEADLY!

I mean, they recognize them. After all, both Deftones and Chevelle have covered Helmet songs
@smashedpumpkin3491 you right baby doll
I thought these drums might be gated but it's just really intense

I think HELMET music is weaker since reunion...
Aftertaste is where they started to lose their edge
Fuck yeah
Thanks for sharing...

That Stanier Snare.
Are these Peel Sessions available anywhere?
This drummer came from hell!!!
FNM and Helmet , essential bands of the 90's
San Andreas GTA! Hahahahha
Has the Helmet Peel Sessions been released? Never seen them anywhere.
Unsung 7" from 1991, Amphetamine Reptile Records.
But all of it, I don't know. There is compilation (also on AmRep) with other Helmet songs from the Peel sessions.

I’ll say, I’m pretty late to the party but demos aren’t polished like the final product. They’re bound to have differences in quality.
Lo-fi and garbled. That’s bad……right?
