Wow, that took 6 years. Unless you atomize and breath asbestos over a lot of time, there is nothing in this process to worry about. Handling asbestos will not harm you. For others who own an old car, fear not! This is a good example of how it's done. You can also pay someone else to do the scary parts for you by using the exchange services. That is probably best if safety is your first observation but there is a lot more like swedging studs in hubs, truing drums, and arcing shoes. Semi trucks, dump trucks, etc still use drum brakes. Such shops might be another resource for the labor. Keep them running!
Hi there. I am having a problem putting one of the brakes back into the wheel, or rather can’t get the wheel over the lining. Left is fine and on but right is not. Got any tips for lining the shoes up correctly?
My dad was in this trade for over 40 years. Although I didn't follow him I learnt alot from working in my school holidays with him. Any questions about brake relining I'd be happy to help
That depends, Is the lining glued to the brake shoe? I have seen a tool that shaves the old lining that has been glued on the to the shoe. If they are riveted, you can do it the same way as in this video.

@ what are you referring to? The brakes? They don’t make them anymore.
I really hope that before you filmed this you checked that the old linings were not asbestos?
