Nancy Love's WAFS (Womens Auxiliary Ferrrying Squadron) were already flying military aircraft when Jackie Cochran made her proposal. Women in the British ATA were also flying military aircraft. Idea was novel at the time, but had already been done.
@III-GabeN-III Why are you asking me? Go tell your legislator s. Also were talking about WW2, which was still 100% male legislative body. They wrote the laws that required only the drafting of men. If you want to declare foul-play, criticize them.

There's opportunity for a great movie here. Remember A League of their own. Great movie. It could easily be switched to WASPS. I think the women of the forties could out work and had more common sense than most the men of today. Such strong people back then.

Germany never mobilized its women. BTW, flying WW2 military aircraft wasn't easy. The women who did this were exceptional. Just like the men who flew these aircraft. My favorite story about WAAFs is how the Military brass shamed male pilots into flying the B-29 by getting women to fly this huge aircraft.
That's a weird thing to say isn't it? "Exceptional" is an exclusive word. It means women are the exception to the set of men and women, the group which is very good at piloting. I don't think think this video supported that claim.
RevucumberTechUSA I think i see it differently. I agree with your definition of the word exceptional, as one of the two most commonly used definitions of the word - but the other definition would be that women then were not the normal military pilot. This group was therefore an exception - these women were the delivery pilots - and with 1000 doing this job, that means there were 1000 male pilots freed up for flying in the war. The ladies were exceptional - but it was not necessarily a positive exception. Who knows - there may have been some who would have been exceptional war pilots, but the possibility was never there. Still, they did an important job and did it well.
@@bingbung We don't really know if they were exceptional women, though I personally take that on faith, based just on what they were willing to do. But we do know they were exceptional pilots, as women pilots in WWII were very much the exception - and also the job they had was an exception to the normal assignment of a pilot in war time.
@ChuckleHoneybear if that were even remotely true then the vast majority of pilots would be female by now 😂. My older sister is an airline pilot though

Using the term "men" in that case is pretty generous.

Quick question: Was anyone shooting at them?
Only over Texas
Yes a big group flew target planes on badly maintained planes. Male pilots flew there too, but these were military pilots.

First video ever to default to 4K on youtube. Most vids don't default to 1080p, even though it is available.
They got veteran status and right to military uniforms first in the 60ties; senator Barry Goldwater pushed on.
I don't know why this was so hard to believe my wife does everything better than me, Just ask her.

Those Soviet women were more tougher than the men.
