Great video. That's a nice complete kit from Clarke, and the range will be awesome! I just put a Clarke 2.9 gallon tank on my Honda CRF230F and was really impressed by the quality.
Great, clear instructional video. I love the Serow - I've had two of them - and a frequent concern was the limited range. Nice to see a practical solution. Hmmm - maybe it's time for another one?
I replaced the stock tank on my xt225 and have mixed feelings. Pros: great tank , perfect match for the Yamaha blue, and the riding position is unchanged. Cons: the petcock bolts would not line up till I elongated the holes in the petcock with a rasp, a tedious project. Most worrying was the amount of blue plastic shavings I kept washing out of the tank: pour in a half gallon of gas and slosh in about, pour it out into a coffee filter, repeat. Ten washes and still more little blue curly cues. I am relying on the filters on the intake lines. Tried compressed
Im getting ready to replace the tank on my TW. I hope it goes as smooth. Ive had it since i was 16 in 01. Lol the tank finally spung a hole. I wish i could find a mint one that they didnt want 700 dollars for
Hello Blancolirio! These videos are a treasure! Thank you so very much for making them. You have a very clear and non-threatening teaching style for the mechanically weary. Now, about the horn. While you were in there why not replace the horn perhaps with a Denali Mini Soundbomb or similar louder horn? I am thinking of doing this as my horn is presently non-functional. Not sure if it will fit in the same spot. I live in OR where I believe we are not required to run the charcoal filter. I was thinking of removing the charcoal filter and then mount a louder horn in its place. Do you have any thoughts on this? Again, thanks so much for the videos. I am looking forward to your carb cleaning/rebuild video if that is still in the works. PS I’m an NU Miner from 1985! Nevada County is Magic. I hope it does not burn up in a forest fire this summer (sheesh!).
Hello! I have an XT225 that was peeing gas, I took the carb apart (first time ever) and the carb looked good. Nothing was junking up the jets and stuff. I hypothesis that it was my petcock. But the thing is, I took the gas tank off and now I don't know which tube goes where. The shorter line goes to the gas tank but I have no idea where the longer line goes. (The longer line on the canister.) Do you think you can give me some guidance as to how the tubes go?
In other words as with other California C.A.R.B. environmental regulations they’re feel good do nothing cost raising garbage that sometimes cause more damage than they intend to help.
Do you happen to have a part number or link for this tank? I keep seeing everything but the XT 225, I found the YZ series, I find Suzuki's, Honda's, KTM but not this specific model... I see it's a 4.1 tank, I got that much
Maybe you need a more case protecting skid plate, first you get scratches on case second you get a hole and lost oil. I like your XT videos and tuning to the low budget bike.I make a skid with wider protection wings for my case ,clutch and alternator side on my KLR 250.
Hi I have a yamaha xt 350 1992 some one removed the charcoal canister do I need that for It to run also my petcock Is frozen In thee on position should I mess with that as well or Is It fine In thee on position.
I have actually been able to squeeze over 100 MPG from my 2001 XT225 being conserative and on the road. I installed (after some fitting difficulties) the Clarke fuel tank because I'm planning a Trans America Trail ride this summer. I am disappointed and it should be known that the "4.1 gallon" Clarke tank actually only holds 3.473 US gallons. I have yet to see if it is all useable. I am wondering why nobody else has mentioned this and how Clarke can advertise a capacity that far off.
Hello Blancolirio, My brothers tank rusted out and was looking to get another. How is your old tank? If you still have it would you be willing to sell it? Thanks
Hey Juan, it is Scott and Jess from the Woodsriders weekend. Jess is VERY interested in this mod for her XT250, any idea if Clarke is going to make a tank for them?
dont change the craked old intake! they are way thicker than you think the crack does not go through! and the replacements are not as good quality as originals
I had the misfortune to buy a Clarke Gas Tank for my Yamaha XT225 Serow. The quality of the Clarke Tank was abysmal and the standard of after sales attitude was disgusting. Clarke sent a different color tank to what I ordered, but when I complained Clarke were just not interested. The tank is so poorly made that the tank leaks fuel from the petrol tap because the surface of the base of the tank is uneven and not finished properly, meaning that is it is difficult to get a petrol tight seal. The metal inserts in the base of the tank, to which you mount the fuel tap, also started to come out of the tank and would not support the bolts which hold the petrol tap to the base of the tank. I have tried to get the tank repaired locally but I am having little success, so the tank may end up in the garbage bin. I would avoid Clarke Tanks at all costs, unless you are happy with an extremely dubious and poor quality product and non existent after sales service.
You are way over budget, in my opinion those bikes are ok for someone with a long dirt driveway wishing to ride to work or the market but to start putting aftermarket tanks and everything els that would make it a better bike, why not start with a good offroad bike.
Hi Adam - have you seen Juan's video of him riding the Rubicon Trail on a Serow? A small, low-seat, low weight bike like this is perfect for really technical off-road terrain. It's as close to a street-legal Trials bike as you can get really... (in States where you can't street title an actual Trials bike of course).
Hang on Adam...you'll see...$3500 tops for this complete bike and build. This build is also designed for the beginning rider to introduce new folks to our sport without breaking the bank...I figure I have over $12-13k into my KTM360EXCF...for your trails, this bike is PERFECT!...stay tuned and thanks for watching!
I used your video today to install a Clarke tank onto my '01 XT225. Thank you so much for making the video, it was a big help.
Thanks so much. Motorcycles aren't easy for the mechanically inept like me. Very helpful and well made video.
Great video. That's a nice complete kit from Clarke, and the range will be awesome! I just put a Clarke 2.9 gallon tank on my Honda CRF230F and was really impressed by the quality.
Really good video! I just need to replace the petcock and throttle cables, but this showed everything I need. Thank you!

New sub. Just purchased a 2000 XT 225 as a project bike. Really appreciate all the info you are sharing. My bike need lots of updating as well.
thanks - you have me thinking about one - but then again NJ is not the west where you have longer stretches without fuel options. :)

I would most certainly NOT use thread locker in any of the tank inserts, unless you’d enjoy the inserts coming out when servicing later.
Awesome video! Thanks!

Thanks for the video I have the exact same bike.
Are you going to do some more vids on the XT225? I am interested to see how it works with the stuff you did to it.
Jimo368 will do.
Thanks
@@blancolirio I was looking for a tank for the TW200 WHERE can I get the TANK ? :o)

Would love some links to purchase your parts, like the tank and the intake?

I bought mine from ProCycle. procycle.us/bikepages/xt225.html#bodyframe

So, 7 years later what is your experienced opinion of this tank as installed on the XT225?

You still have your xt225. Just curious I haven't seen any videos. In a while.
Koozy
So it's not for on road use anymore... after installing a plastic tank..?
H8, what size tires are you running? Heers
Loved it
Could you please give me your thoughts on which bike you prefer DR or XT i have a DR200 but im curious about the XT.
sold my XT, kept my DR...
Nuff said. Thank you sir
Has anyone put this tank in '95 serow? I cannot get the seat to fit right after the tank is installed
What front fender is that?
Hello Blancolirio, My brothers tank rusted out and was looking to get another. How is your old tank? If you still have it would you be willing to sell it?

7:51 does he rip one?
Interesting video! Did you take the FMF exhaust off?
Yes...waaay too loud.
I can imagine :D
Clean it with rubbing alcohol, it evaporates and is combustible.
How far could you go on the stock tank before refilling it
not sure a long way at about 50 mpg?
120 miles till you hit reserve, 30 more miles on reserve, total to 150 till completely empty on the stock xt225 tank.
7:50 lol
Lol too

Scott Faulk don't know yet...www.clarkemfg.com...let us know
apparently the safari 3.7 gallon fits with small reshape of the seat plastic and the tank sits 3/8 of an in rearward!
what tires were on that XT?
Dunlop D606
I wonder if that would fit a xt 250

Hi, where do you get the plastic part for carburetor on xt225? Think mine is has cracks.
Steve Yong parts number 2LN-14958-10
@@kushvich thats crazy. They want $27 for that little piece of plastic. I just bought a brand new carb for $57.
Is that a Catalina 22?
Yep 1984
@@blancolirio Living the dream. Two thumbs up.

Louver
Why wouldnt you spend the $30 to replace the petcock with a new one? At the time of this video that petcock was like 13 years old...
bubba if it still rotates nicely, and doesn’t leak, why mess with it?
You're missing an E, it's Clarke.
good catch, thanks!
7:50 Seriously?
poor old cb is getting neglected

I have one of these bikes. It is a low quality bike. I wish I had bought a Kawasaki Sherpa. Much better quality than this piece of junk.
ROB NAVAEI fix it up and ride the hell out of it....or spend 13,000$ and get a KTM...
