Nice video
I think we can all agree playing in shoes is 20 times better then in sock
@@cagozmeme9531 Ha, yes way prefer shoes!
Great cover Mike! Quick question on the fill after the intro second time around what are you playing it's different from the drum ninja transcription? Tia.
@@andyhall9763 Ah yes, on the repeat I noticed that the fill is different, so I replicated what I heard. Cheers for paying attention! :)
Great, I love seeing professionals play drum covers now and then, always so perfectly executed and with no over-playing, brilliant! 🤘🎵🎶👍
Cheers man, yes just following the written part note-for-note here, except for the very end where the chart ran out but the music continued so did some extra fills of my own. Cheers!
@@MikeBarnesDrums Showing how without showing off. A true professional
@@steveanderson6180 Appreciated Steve. In the words of one of my great teachers..."Wanna be a professional? Play the ink!"
Actually there was often another word between "the" and "ink"!
😂👍
I never get fed up playing this song.. wonderful test and feel..
Grade 3!!!!! Wow, I've been over estimating my progress lol. Fantastic drumming Mike.
Yep Grade 3 or 4 for Trinity Rock and Pop, Grade 3 for Trinity Drum Kit I reckon. Cheers Alan!
Same here Alan, I've been playing this song (first single I ever bought) and thought I was doing pretty well! It appears not ha ha.
@@Grahamponting Thanks for watching Graham!
Thanks MIke, for someone who plays by ear you filled in some small gaps for me, cheers mate!!!!
Cheers Jake, thanks for watching man!
Mike good drumming mate, on my bucket list of songs to learn and play, you hit it for six.
Amazing ! I've just started looking at grade 3 Trinity R&P syllabus and my off-syllabus 'stretch song' I'm practising with is this one. I can play the simplified version on Jack Young's channel, but watching you play the proper version note for note is amazing inspiration. So much extra subtlety in there, and those 16th note kick doubles are a real challenge. Thanks Mike ! Rock on !
Very nice! I remember when this album came out. I'd been home from my first drum&bugle corps tour for about 2 weeks. It was about the time my high school band was starting early practices; school started in early September. This sound was blowing us all away, No idea how many times we listened to it over and over. Another drummer in school was an absolute fan of Carl Palmer, he had a replica of his set and could play many ELP songs note for note. We disagreed about some things musically... he thought Buddy Rich was no good being a major disagreement (lol). Anyway, a couple weeks after this album hit the charts, he plays 2112 for a group of us. This science fiction fan was absolutely knocked over. He was driving several of us up a mountain road late at night, I was standing up with my arms and head through his sunroof. We used to practice to this and other songs. You just sent me back to so many memories. 1976 was an amazing year... I'd only just learned how to play 16th notes in January.
Ah nice one, cheers Steve!
@@MikeBarnesDrums Thanks for triggering so many amazing memories! That year was like learning to swim in a blender.
Thanks for answering the request Mike, amazing 👍👍
Sure thing man, great suggestion!
Very well done. I like this kit and your real one as well! Cheers!
😂Here's my "real" kit!: th-cam.com/video/WVQAC1QC5_c/w-d-xo.html
Thanks for watching
That was so fun!
Great one Mike! An excellent cover of a great song!
🙏🏻👊🏻
Started playing this song in a cover band recently having last played it over 45 years ago! Dropped by to check out bass drum note placements as it gets a bit congested on the original track (to my 60 year old ears at least). Excellent job Mike. Your channel is the best I’ve come across for this sort of thing. Cheers. Ali
Thank you Ali, thanks for watching!
best one yet
Love drumming to this, thanks.
👊🏻
Wow .crazy
Superb ❤❤❤
It's amazing ..
Great Mike. Super Drumming. Greetings from Germay. Piet
Cheers Piet! 👊🏻
Wow! Very clean! Love your channel. Still working on the brick house intro from your video/lesson. Thanks for posting
Nice! Thanks for watching man and glad if you’ve found the channel useful 👊🏻
Smooth
Love this song I did this cover. You play this very nice 👍 🥁😊🎶🎵👊🎧
Great cover Mike, love air drumming to this song when I'm in the van, shame it doesn't sound any good when I'm sat at my drums!!
Cheers man, yeah loads of fun to play!
Nice!
SO GOOD!!
Good job Mike
Cheers Romano!
Great song
Yeah!
Love this song, fills actually took some practice to learn. They aren’t hard, but they are musical. Great job on the cover man.
Cheers Gareth!
Absolutely awesome Sir......yoooo da man!!!! I love your stuff mate, glad I found you when I found the Brick House intro..which I have nearly mastered ✊️🤟😁😁🍺🍺
Good stuff man, thanks for being here and glad you dig! 👊🏻
Thank you for posting this video. You have helped me so much. I just started playing the drums at age 56 and I am now 57 about to turn 58. My husband bought me a Roland Drum kit. I would like to know if you would post a song by Van Halen D.O.A.? Thank you so very much. I enjoy your channel.
Grade 3! (Throws sticks away)... love your videos, I’m a grade 2 and this seems a big step up! 😱😬
Only a rough guide! Go for it man :)

Would love to make videos along with music like this. Are you using garage band or something similar to mix? Or do you just sync up the track later to your playing? Hope that made sense.

Main man Mr. Mike Barnes, that was awesome! Thanks for performing this and sharing with the global drumming community. Brilliant bro! Just lovely!!!
Hey Mike I’ve been working on this song ever since watching your excellent video. The only measure that’s giving me some trouble is the second measure of the chorus that has the double 16th note bass drum beat. The measure is IMO the trickiest in the song. Any hints on I might tackle that specific measure is greatly appreciated!
Thanks for watching! Yes, whole playlist of hints for you here: th-cam.com/play/PLcfoni8UPb9rfMKiVUYJVO6C7lBcKZNvb.html
Cheers!
@@MikeBarnesDrums thanks your solo at the end was awesome. Sorry my request was super unclear tho… I can do the double bass no problem. It’s playing that specific measure that’s tricky for me meaning getting snare, high hat and bass to sync up. My hands and foot just don’t want to cooperate with such a syncopated rhythm!
@@shawnhorton2000 Go slow, show your hands and feet the correct combinations in order, build it bit-by-bit! Haste is your enemy, patience and repetition deadly weapons. Hint almost noone follows...if you find yourself "struggling". SLOW DOWN! Cheers, have fun.
@@MikeBarnesDrums thanks! I know you are right because that slow steady repetition has worked for the rest of the song!
How did you not get a copyright notice from TH-cam? I want to post my ow cover and not sure how?
I did get one! Video is ineligible for monetisation but still allowed to publish it on TH-cam 👍🏻Cheers.
Hey Mike how long does it take for you to learn a song?
Depends on the song! Somewhere between 2 minutes and a long time :) I’ve been playing the drums for a long time and you get faster with experience of course. And if there’s a written chart (like here) and you’ve developed music reading skills that massively speeds things up too! Thanks for watching :)
@@MikeBarnesDrums how long have you been playing
@@cormierkitchens About 27 years!
@@MikeBarnesDrums that's great
