There are so many homages to Legends. Mace Windu's shatter point ability. So many nods the Revenge of the Sith novelization. There are lines that are direct nods to it "This is Anakin Skywalker..." "This is what it feels like to be Anakin Skywalker..." "This is Obi Wan Kenobi and Anakin Skywalker...".
I really enjoyed it. No where close to being my fav canon. Thrawn still holds that for me. There are a handful of other ones that came out around that time that are higher for me as well. But this was good. Canon books have felt like they are on a decline for a while. Books like Thrawn, Tarkin, Catalyst gave me hope back in the day but recently, not that great. A few exceptions here and there like Light of the Jedi but they have been rare. At least for what I enjoy. This was most welcome and enjoyable. Hope to see more like it

Excellent 👌 review 👍👍! Glad to hear that the book is good and to see you actually enjoy doing the review and reading the book. . You got me intrigued. It has been a long time since a SW book sounded this promising. I may take a chance on this (ugh, as if I don't have a slew of novels to read...sigh...). It also seems that at least in some places it indirectly ties into "Queen's Hope" as well. Sounds like this is up there with Alexander Freed and James Luceno's stuff!

I was genuinely surprised with it.

@@TheGeeksAttic Finished the book. It was a good, solid read no doubt. I liked it, but I didn't love it. The fact that it does really read like an EU novel is definitely a plus and why I think the novel is better than it would have otherwise been. I am not going to lie, the fact that I started reading this novel at the same time that the "Obi-Wan Kenobi" series (awful, dismal, only made it through two episodes before I gave up on it) is airing, has definitely been a negative and somewhat soured me on Mike Chen's novel (not his fault at all). Anyway, now I'm reading "Shatterpoint", and let me say this, that opening monologue from Mace Windu's personal diary...is excellent 👌👍! Now, that is how you open a novel! Up next I really want to read "The Heart Of The Jedi", the "forgotten" SW novel. I managed to get my grubby little hands on a copy before it was banished once again. We'll see how that goes.

Oh man, I still need to read Heart of the Jedi too.

@@TheGeeksAttic You know, I'm just wondering how cool it would have been if they had adapted "Shatterpoint" into a miniseries. Just Mace Windu in full-on action mode, more gritty, adult oriented content. Soo many missed possibilities. I'm keeping my fingers crossed for at least "Star Wars Andor" to be good. A very different team behind it. Filmed old school. Meh...who knows...

Huh, interesting review. I guess i'll be reading a new SW novel soon then. BTW, i don't know if it's fair to claim that a SW novel is entirely devoid of real life politics, specially when the prequel era is basically a critique of the Bush administration according to Lucas. But hey, i guess i see your point. Pink capitalism can truly go out of it's way in some works nowdays, no nuance, but is nice to hear that a new book balances that out. I recently saw a cool interview Mike Chen had with Forbidden Planet. You should check it out!.

Certainly. The nice thing about this book, is that it doesn’t make it obvious that something could reflect “real world.” Some other recent books don’t even hide it.

MIKE CHEN IS DEF AN AUTHOR WHO EARNED HIS STRIPES DEEP IN THE TRENCHES EARNING HIS SPOT TO WRITE A BOOK FOR A MAJOR IP. FROM HIS BIO:
"Mike Chen is a lifelong "writer," from crafting fan fiction as a child to "somehow" getting paid for words as an adult. He has contributed to major geek culture websites (The Mary Sue..." "etc?", covered the NHL for mainstream media outlets, and ghostwritten CORPERATE articles appearing in Forbes, Buzzfeed, Enterpreneur, and more..." which is totally TRUE and proves he is ready to write his FIRST BOOK for a gigantic IP. I know Disney doesn't care anymore, but to hire a man who is basically a games journo, i guess to fill a diversity quota... smh. Hey Mike, get the bag, u aren't to blame. As for the book, meh. Im so glad I pirate everything bc I would feel like a fool paying these insane prices for mid to low tier everything this company produces nowadays. Well, you could just become a small youtuber and say hey this DISNEY BOOK is 10 OUT OF 10, you know, since it was free merch.🤑

This channel has real reviews. It doesn’t bow down to the mouse, doesn’t love everything with a Star Wars logo. Yes, I get review copies. I complain about these books far more than praise them. It’s funny that when I do give a book a positive review, there’s always a comment about how much canon sucks and the review is positive because It’s a free copy.
