Hi everyone in this video im going to show how i make square platter out of 7" square blank, i hope you like it and helps you if you have same thing in mind to make.
That is a beautiful piece of timber. That grain! Nice job. I think you really did that gorgeous piece of wood a lot of justice. It was born to be a platter.
:) thank you George, they key is to look at the ghost form of the wood when its turning then you know when your're close to edge :) everything becomes easy with practice my friend.
Another wonderful piece Afshin - the skill you exhibit in developing a very attractive platter from a somewhat limited by size piece of wood is amazing. The grain on this piece is indeed as you say outstanding. Great job of turning it into a very usable and beautiful item. I very much appreciate your videos they are an inspiration to me. Ian Mathison
Ian your very kind my friend i appreciate your time watching my videos and im glad you find them ineteresting it means alot to me when i read these comment and keeps me going knowing that its at least useful to some people :) so thank you from bottom of my heart.
It's beautiful. Wonderful figure! I have turned square pieces and I don't know if this is a recommended practice but I use a bath sponge with sandpaper wrapped around it for sanding and with a polishing cloth wrapped around it for applying finish and buffing. It seems to work okay and the state of the bath sponge after a few uses (it is now quite ragged) gives a good indication of what it could do to fingers if you catch the corners. It's a pretty safe method as the fingers don't come anywhere close to the spinning piece. Also, because the sponge has a degree of spring, it applies just enough pressure to give a decent finish. It does get snatched out of my hand occasionally but better that than losing fingers.
That it Ron you got good method and i would agree with you that its better than risking your finger however i will let these things up to turner because whoever attempt these piece will be experience enough like yourself to be creative and come up with safe way to handle the task :)
Thank You Afshin...That is a beautiful platter...Olive wood is very unique ...You did a great step by step explaining of how to make a square form and the finishing...great !!! and different ...thanks...tm
Just an absolute beautiful piece Afshin! I've watched your videos for about a year and a half now and to see just how much your skillset has matured is truly awesome. You display such great patience with your turning and I honestly believe that could now give some of the big name turners out there a run for their money. Keep up the great work. Thanks, Mike...
I must apologise to you. I missed this vlog from last week. This wood platter is wonderful. The wood grain pattern is seriously beautiful. I love it. Best wishes
Really nice job Afshin. The polishing system bring out the wood grain and I am sure that it feels as smooth as it looks. Thanks again for sharing this with us.
Wonderful turning, Afshin and another stunningly beautiful piece of wood. I recently bought the Chestnut buffing kit but haven't tried it yet. I hope to do so soon.
thank you my friend its actually a gift for my friend's birthday :) btw you cant go wrong with that buffing kit you'll see massive improvement in whatever you use it on as long as you dont put too much pressure when buffing!
Hey Afshin, bet I can't guess who you bought that olive wood from 😊 Beautiful platter my friend, yet again another informative and great video! Always a pleasure to watch. Take care and look forward to your next video. ☺👍
I see you're using a fibre washer to prevent the chuck jamming on the spindle. One turner on here said it was a bad idea as it would cause vibration !!!!! Yeah, honest 😊 I've been using it since the 70's!
last year i wasnt using that fiber washer and let me tell you i i wont use a chuck without it now so yeah let them say whatever they want people should always experiment themself and come to conclusion themself and not by what people say.
@@glennmoreland6457 lol nah its just them people working out with music blasting off i try to not record when they are playing but sometimes i cant since i like to start turning in morning so i can finish a project by evening.
