Thank you for the videos, they have really helped me a lot in my patio project. I would hire that guy by his accent alone. Hard working guy who takes pride in his work.
My dad really appreciates comments like that. I'll let him know when I see him this Thursday. All the best, David www.the-flagstone-experts.com/Flagstone-Installation.html
the older fellow has some skills.....u can tell he has been doing this for a long long time...so fluent in his motions...he makes this look so easy....nice job
your welcome....im actually going to do a stone patio with natural flat creek rocks that i been gathering from my favorite fishing spots. ill probably be doing a screener stone base....set the stone then maybe sand the joints or even do some small pebbles between....would he have any tips or advice or any things to look out for? id appreciate any advice from an expert like your father :)
rotten apple We haven't used it because my dad has retired, but I have heard great things about new polymeric sands and other new products. This might help you out: www.envirobond.com/products/envirostone Take care, David
You could use much dryer mix for your grout lines ( Larger gaps) , similar to shower bed floor. By doing so , you'll use less effort cleaning and removing haze after work.
Some of my flagstones are on sand and another area is on crushed granite, both worked well. Do you think that mortar will work as a filler between stones using those materials as the base and will a epoxy additive be necessary?
Great video and tips. Nothing compares to old school experience 😉 Thanks for sharing as I have a heap of flagstone paver joints to repair and this has given me sound advice.
I have a question: I am going to do this on my arizona flagstone patio next week. it has not been cleaned or sealed in at least 8 years. Should I clean the stone before grouting, and then clean again and seal afterwards?
Mix it to where it's a little bit hard. Check out the video on this page for info: www.the-flagstone-experts.com/Flagstone-Installation.html That is the video with our entire process for laying and installing flagstone. Great luck with your project! David
You seem like lovely genuine guys but my goodness that mess is so unnecessary, wet mix and a pointing gun is best , being wet fills any voids as does this to an extent but no need for all the mess
I think he made the most comfortable knee pads I've ever seen. Maybe try and absorb wisdom more instead of thinking you can buy your way through everything.
How do you get the to wet semen of the slabs, that is going to stain...did i miss that video...semen !! lol..is to wet, slab pointing tool, with a dryer mix, and enough to work with, is how i would do it....
their still sponging it clean years later ...what a mess ...shoukd use a dry mix and pack it in joints then lightly wet with a hose on a mist setting ...that way u don't need to go back a try to remove semen staines. ..hahaha ..I mean cement!
indeed, wetter the better from the joints perspective, however , unless using a gun to place it its a mess like this, i think we all know semi dry is the easiest, quickest way unless using high coloured slabs(nightmare) but i think all in the trade know that the integrity/strength of the joint is compromised using dry, even if wetting after, ive even seen joints lift a fraction upon drying out doing that, which is a haven for weeds in time, as del boy would say "its a bark innit!"

I used your system for repointing a bluestone deck. I got excellent results, 1st time through. Thanks
I really appreciate this, guys. I especially like dad's selfmade kneepads. REALLY cool.
He needed those pads after decades of work. Thanks again for you comment. Take care, David
This was great. Years of learning shared in just a few minutes.
I'd like to point out to our blind listeners, that the gentleman is NOT saying semen.
Dose the cement not stain the flags
2:1 ration sand to cement will crack. As far as I know it should be 4:1. Suggest people check this out before starting the job.
minimum 3 parts sand, depending on width, up to 4x

Agreed
Yes thank u, I was really concerned about this. Doing my gardens brick paver and was very confused to do slurry or dry filling

3:05 "... and I guess they do an adequate job." I love it!
⁰
It would have been great if you could have put the materials and quantities used in the description / details!!!!
For completeness it would have nice to see the sponging operation.
Thanks.
Exactly the info I needed. Thanks!
where'd you get those knee pads?
Great video and tips. Nothing compares to old school experience 😉

Hi David, I learned a lot about flagstone from this video. I hope you have more stone vids coming out.
Very helpful. Sounds like Cleveland from family guy. 😊
Gripping stuff. I was at the edge of my seat.
I have a question: I am going to do this on my arizona flagstone patio next week. it has not been cleaned or sealed in at least 8 years. Should I clean the stone before grouting, and then clean again and seal afterwards?
you mention the ratio of 2 sand to 1 cement, but you don't mention how much water to use. Do you have that amount?

if you pressure wash the patio, will it drive out all the jointing work?
😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
How to make dribond
You seem like lovely genuine guys but my goodness that mess is so unnecessary, wet mix and a pointing gun is best , being wet fills any voids as does this to an extent but no need for all the mess
I use a piece of ply so much quicker to fill the gaps about a foot long
Those are an awsome pair of knee pads😂😂😂
i am sure the wife didnt appreciate you using her nice pillows as kneePads

This takes way to long grout bag is the same and a lot faster been doin this with my dad for years and the grout bag is way cleaner
Comes out sooner. Yes faster for you but a poorer job ...
It’s called pointing matey
Lots of experience doing this kind of work, but I wonder if he ever thought about getting better knee pads.
MrMike3865 Lol
Actually I think he’s nailed it. I’m sure he’s tried and used many over the yrs. With none being more comfortable n protective than those
I think he made the most comfortable knee pads I've ever seen. Maybe try and absorb wisdom more instead of thinking you can buy your way through everything.
Fanthastisch
Vielen Dank Jean. I'm glad you enjoyed it. All the best, David
I make the ratio 1000000000000000000 too 309
How do you get the to wet semen of the slabs, that is going to stain...did i miss that video...semen !! lol..is to wet, slab pointing tool, with a dryer mix, and enough to work with, is how i would do it....

their still sponging it clean years later ...what a mess ...shoukd use a dry mix and pack it in joints then lightly wet with a hose on a mist setting ...that way u don't need to go back a try to remove semen staines. ..hahaha ..I mean cement!
That doesn't give even close to the same result.

What a Bloody mess, 1= cement too wet 2= wrong ratio best to use 3x1 or 4x1 his will crack 3= make sure the slabs are dry.
Imagine turning up half way through to see that it’s amateur and looks shit
Says the tool that's never created or accomplished a thing in its life.
