    Hi, Patrick! In your Connection Type dropdown (2:30), I see you have quite a few more options than I'm seeing for myself! How did you add ODBC? Right now, I only have Microsoft SQL Server, Microsoft Azure SQL Database, Microsoft SQL Server Analysis Services, Oracle Database, Enter Data, and TERADATA. I'm able to connect via ODBC in PowerBI but not PowerBI Report Builder. Any help would be appreciated!

    Hello Patrick,
    Are any complete courses paid or free on Power BI from scratch to advanced from your end?
    I check videos based on what I want to do but I always have some loophole and would like to capture the complete Power BI operations.

    Hi Patrick,
    I have a parameter and in the query, that parameter will have duplicate values in that column. When I run the report it shows the duplicate values in the drop-down list. Will be great if someone can guide me to resolve this.
    Thanks and regards.

    Hi Patric , i am using odbc data source for connecting to snowflake database. I believe it works on direct query mode as each time query is fired against database . Am I correct ? I don't have link which supports that. Do you know anything about that ?

    Are there any benefits using this instead of Visual Studio? I only see disadvantages as you don't have source control and no support of shared datasets.

    When you show that you can create reports in Visual Studio, you have the preview button available to test the report. I am trying to create a report in VS2017 Pro am I do not have the preview tab/button available. Do you know how to enable this or can you point me in the right direction? Thank you. Nice video series BTW.

    • @GuyInACube
      @GuyInACube  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The preview button is only in Report Builder. Visual Studio, you need to just run the report. You should be able to right click on the RDL file and run that report from Visual Studio.

    Is there a way we can create paginated report, attaching the fields on text box instead of a table. If so, can you send me an example. Most of the videos use tables. What i need is a paginated report with separeted fields? Can we do that on PBI Reports? Like a form.

    Hi Patrick, Appreciate you creating videos on paginated reports.
    Are there any resources you can advise where one can go and see good examples of paginated reports. While Power Bi gave the modern look and feel, we are struggling to find good examples of paginated reports - would you be share resources where we can experience a good variety of modern looking paginated reports? (just like Power BI has data stories gallery).

    I need to make paginated reports from tables located in different Fabric Warehouses. the main table is from Sales Warehouse and all the dimension tables are from Dimension Warehouse. I'm having trouble working with them in the Power Query feature in the Paginated Report Builder so I can merge them and result in one, single data set table. (I'm hoping that I won't have to write a bunch of LookUp expressions.

    You can’t have a shared data source? What if you are switching environments from Dev, Test, Prod and you have over a 100 reports? You have to manually change every reports data source!? This can be dangerous ...

    Hi Patrick, Is there any way to pick up the Username() of the logged in user, so we can pass that to our Stored Procedure and implement some sort of RLS?

    • @BigTerrick
      @BigTerrick 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      You probably found it by now, but try out the Built-in Field "User ID". Be aware it returns different results when running On-prem vs. the Power BI Service. On-prem returns DOMAIN\UserName, and when running in the Power BI Service it comes across as the User Principal Name and will look more like UserName@domainaddress.com. I ended up building a SWITCH expression that used InStr to look for the \ or the @.

    Patrick - Thanks for putting this up. I thought the magic was that SSRS reports would be able to connect to our Power BI Datasets. With them supporting XMLA endpoints, shouldn't it be possible? I'd like to use the Power BI Dataset as my one version of the truth and give my users the flexibility to present those reports either as interactive dashboards (Power BI) or paginated reports (SSRS). Is that the direction this is heading, or will SSRS and Power BI reports pull from different places in the Power BI Service?

    • @GuyInACube
      @GuyInACube  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      It isn't yet. It will be coming. Check out the following doc for the current limitations - docs.microsoft.com/power-bi/paginated-reports-report-builder-power-bi. It just came out in public preview. There is still work to do.

  • @pukashell6170
    @pukashell6170 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    So can you connect to a Power BI Data Model? It did not seem to be an option. Will that be available at some point. Ideally, I'd like to be able to link the paginated report to a PBI report where all the slicer options can be ported to the paginated report and it prints out using the pre-filtered Power BI data set.

    • @GuyInACube
      @GuyInACube  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      It is a Premium only feature from the Power BI service perspective. Some of this is due to technical limitations of how SSRS was architected. You can still use paginated reports in SSRS or Power BI Report Server.

    This requires my laptop to be on. I'm running a postgres server on google and i just want it to refresh how do i do that? It's actually kind of ridiculous that is't not easy to do.
    When i create the reports on Power bi desktop i use odbc,once i publish it so i can share. It becomes messy. It needs my laptop to be on.
    Why isn't it straight forward to just enter credentials and it connects.

      I think this is the same as the old SSRS paginated reports, just that now its all in one platform, and eventually the Power BI & Paginated reports will be better linked, I guess. I was hoping Power BI features would take over or handle all features of paginated reports.
