I like that: "Where we normally get to the point". Got a chuckle out of me.

What are you feeling about the way the cutting edge drops down by the heel of the knife? When you re-profile the edge using a Lansky or similar sharpening systems do you think you will have a recurve in the blade? I am glad you are being objective about your feeling for the Mantra 3, which will provide a well thought out review. I am looking forward to your comparison review between the Mantra 3 and the Sage 5. Have a great day.

barry levitt Lansky should be fine, those stones are pretty narrow, something like a KME has wider stones, but others are saying it should not be an issue. Obviously a Spyderco Sharpmaker will work great. I’m trying to be as objective as I can be on this knife, and not let my Delica love get in the way 🤣

Thank you for the input. The blade grind where it drops down by the heel is bothering me.

barry levitt it’s where they had to put that little bit of recurve, so when closed you couldn’t touch it in the cut out for the compression lock. The original Mantra is a lot cleaner in blade profile for sure.

I had the Mantra 3 for one day. Returned it for many of the reasons you mention.

Thank you, for another look, and some quick early thoughts, and hands-on experience with this knife. It sure does get us talking about Spyderco, doesn't it?
    😀
I'm not a Delica kind of guy. I do like my Sage knives, and love my Manix 2 knives.
I have a Sliverax too, and this Mantra 3, reminds me very much of it. Do you have a Sliverax, you can lay side-by-side for us? The detent on my Sliverax, is awfully weak.
You're correct of course, that this pivot is overly complicated. One look at it, and a person has to think. Why put all of that extra machining into it? I am glad though, that Spyderco is going outside of their norms, with knives like these. For one thing, there is a fair-sized group of people, who want more cutting edge length, in knives of this size. We sure can't blame them for that. If a person wants the finger choil, then they don't buy this Mantra. I know, that I really appreciate the added cutting edge length I get, with my Sliverax, over say my Sage knives.

I agree..the Sage 5 is a much better option. This Mantra is not impressing me..I see you have the smooth G10 cru-wear PM2..I have that same model..and I love it! The smooth G10 slides in and out of the pocket like a dream.

Tim Gannon I thought I would not like the smooth G10 as much as I do. Thanks for watching

I wish they would have just put better bearings on the Mantra 1.
