    hey there, I'm currently looking into purchasing this bag and i was wondering what size you got, I didn't even know this was a thing but apparently it comes in xs/s/m/l for the 65. (size of the straps?? i really don't know what the sizing is for) hope this makes sense haha

    • @torithetraveler8681
      @torithetraveler8681  3 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      Thanks for the comment! I have the XS bag. For reference I am 5'2" and have small hips.
      Before I purchased my size I stopped by my local REI to get sized. They'll measure your torso length to make sure you're getting the perfect fit! The difference sizes have to do with torso length and hip size. (I should have custom ordered my hip straps since I have to pull them completely tight for a snug fit but It wasn't a deal breaker) This is super important if you're going on longer trips or carrying heavier loads. It'll make sure you're getting a good base for weight distribution.
      Kinda long winded haha but I hope this helps!

      @@juliettecadieux7222 There are some easy peasy videos here on flutube, that shows clearly where to measure on your back. That should make it easier to get the right size.
      In the end, I chose a Fjällräven Kajka 65 (male model - comes in female as well, with different hip belt and differently shaped shoulder straps), as it's got the most adjustable system as far as I know, including the width of the placement of the shoulder straps. That is a wish I've had for a long time, since I can adjust it quickly to suit me, closer to the throat when wearing less closthes, and wider when wearing many layers - far greater comfort. Maybe take a look on that? It is a bit heavy though, but I experienced that they quality of the carrying system more than makes up for a heavier pack. In fact you don't notice it at all. Another thing I have come to like, is that I can slide a ,65 Liter thin stainless drinking bottle into it's outside side pocket, from near horizontally, not only from above. So I got rid of twisting my arm in an awkward angle, while trying to put it back into the pocket.
      For example, the hip belt padding is split in two horizontally, and that was one of the features I was looking for this Spring when I decided to get a new backpack. The split design makes it easier for the padding to adapt to your body shape, not the other way around.
      Another feature I am sold on, is the way the straps on the hip belt itself is made. Instead of one wide strap sewn into the middle of the height of the hip belt padding, there are two wide straps that is actually one (folded at the clip). This make the contact point of the hip belt padding at the front lay more softly over a larger area, than one single strap on each side. Less fatigue and greater carrying comfort. Just saying ;) All in all, the Kajka 65Liter is far more comfortable than my old trusty (as one say) Lowe Alpine, despite it's height adjustable feature on that very old pack as well. On my old Lowe Alpine Cerro Torre 65+20, the hip belt is way to fat and stiff and high (wide some would say), which makes it irritating walking longer distances. Also, the shoulder straps are sometimes nagging into the sides of my neck, which was most irritating in the very hot climate, when I crossed over some of the Sinai Desert.
      Just my two cents.
      Kind regards.

    Thanks for this video, you convinced me to get the convertible daylid accessory for my Ariel AG 65 that did not come with it (apparently, the AG version came with different accessories in Europe and the US: either the lid or the rain cover, but never both). Anyway, there were so few videos showing the lid in detail. I get that if you know your pack comes with it, you don't need to see as much. But if you're in Europe thinking about ordering the lid, well... And, yes, the convertible lid is a surprisingly decent everyday pack!
    Here some info perhaps someone (in Europe) will appreciate:
    - The AG series has been discontinued (as AG, I mean). Ariel and other packs of the segment now feature the "air escape" system in the back panel.
    - There is no convertible daylid in the new editions. Surely not for technical/design constraints. My guess is they wanted to reduce overall weight (and both the AG system and the convertible daylid sure contribute some...)
    - Even if on the website this is not clearly stated, you should be ordering only the convertible lid that corresponds to your pack. I wondered where the difference was, because if it was size, that would have been irrelevant (the lid is not meant to fit your body at all). But I was told that an Aether daylid would not be attachable to my Ariel, so the difference matters.

    This was a great video. Thank you for putting it together. I will say as a word of caution, I purchased an Ariel 65L on ebay (after watching your video) and was surprised my version does NOT have a top part that converts into a daypack. So apparently that is a feature that is not included on every Osprey Ariel.

      Yes that’s correct! I have the 2020 model, the older models have a hip pack and I know they’ve recently updated the bag to not include a separate bag ):

    Good and fun review. I like the double bag possibility.
    If you want to loose all the long straps dangling around, just bring some rubber bands, roll up the strap, put a rubber band around it, and it won't catch all sorts of things when bushwalking, passing a crowded area and what not. Or bits of cut off bicycle inner tube works well too.
    Travel safe.
    Kind regards,
    Jacques

    I have an Ariel 65 AG bought in 2017 and my top lid doesn't convert to anything, it has no extra straps, i didn't actually check this until today because i haven't needed to use it as a daypack but I remember when bying it that it said it couldnavk then too. So to anyone bying this pack double check that it actually can convert before taking it home if you're gonna be relying on this feature .

    Thanks for the review. My girlfriend is wanting to start backpacking with me and we are looking at different bags for her. I wear a Gregory but she is liking the Ospreys. I've seen many reviews on this particular bag but I have NEVER seen anyone run and jump while being a double turtle! Wearing the day pack on the chest is really a pretty good idea. Any chance you can do a review or comparison on women's sleeping bags? There are plenty of reviews from the showroom floor based on specs alone , but not as many reviews from actual first hand experience. Take care and be safe!

    Hi Tori, thanks for the review! I am not sure if I like too much the daypack "hidden" in the lid, as with so much fabric material and straps inside of the lid, there will be hardly any space left to use it as a proper lid, right? Also, so many straps add quite some weight to your back at the end. If you are carrying 15-17 kg for 20 km a day, you will notice a lot those 200-300 extra grams (some grams also owing to the flap cover). Or am I being too apocalyptic about this? I think I will buy the Aura AG 65 better :) Cheers

    • @torithetraveler8681
      @torithetraveler8681  4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      There is considerably more fabric than some of the ultra light packs. I went on a mountaineering trip and actually ended up leaving the brain at base camp and just utilized the larger bag when summiting (for weight purposes) which was a nice lil hack. So far this has been a super trusty bag but you’re right, it’s certainly not ultra light. My brother has a hyperlite pack and loves it!

The fairview is great if you're mainly traveling, but as for hiking it didn't make sense to me to have my water bottle not accessible. The hide-a-way straps for the fairview were convenient but I felt they didn't provide the support I like from a bag. Also love some hip pockets which the fairview didn't have. Hope this helps!!
