    I made this using Ted's pattern. It came out really nice! There's nothing like the satisfaction of those Earth magnets clicking in place when this armor is on your neck! It's one of the simplest pieces of my entire costume (a Titan from the game Destiny), but still, one of my favorites! I dressed it up with some details and it came out really nice. It was pretty easy to make too. I highly recommend getting this pattern and following Ted's instructions, to anyone who wants to make this! I bet you'll be really pleased with your results!!

    AAAAH this is PERFECT! I need to make neck armor for a cosplay, and I don't know nearly enough to design it myself. This pattern and tutorial will be absolutely perfect! Thank you so much for this. Off to purchase and print the pattern now.

      Yeah! Unless you are trying to get into the 501st it would look great! I think it has to be fabric to get into the 501st, but like... why, is someone going to run up and touch it to see if its accurate? LOL

  • @techsavvyhero

    Very cool! That's a great idea for using magnets with foam for seams. I'm trying to figure out how to do it best with my 3D Printed armor where there is no overlap piece, but rather edge to edge. Any Ideas?

    hey Ted, I am wondering why some people prefer utility knives(or box cutters) to things like Razor pens/non surgical scalpuls personally my best cuts have been with a razor pen and a #11 blade

    • @BlueStarBrony
      @BlueStarBrony 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I think because the box cutter cuts through foam especially the thicker foams much easier. It may not be as precise as a Xacto knife but I find it way easier to cut through foam with the long blade of a box cutter. It also feels much more solid than a Xacto knife since it's blade and handle are bigger.

    • @EvilTedSmith
      @EvilTedSmith  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, what bluestarbony said... Much easier to cut thicker foam with. I do use the pin knife on thinner foam.

    • @VulpusArmory
      @VulpusArmory 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I work primarily with 1/2"/10mm foam most and every time I used a box cutter on anything other than long lines it always screws up for me.

    Is it me or does it say somewhere what the default size is if I print it as is? I use 16½ in shirts, so just wondering. Just bought the pattern! :)

      Hello. Not sure what your asking? The print size scale of the paper?

    • @dear_ibby1193
      @dear_ibby1193 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@EvilTedSmith He's asking the collar size. I believe it means the base of his neck measures 16 1/2 inches around. Hope that helps!

    This is PERFECT for Batman cowls. The common problem with them is that the head piece and neck piece are the same piece so they restrict neck movement so this is a great idea. I thought about doing this myself but I didn't know how to go about it

    Hey Ted! I'm putting together a costume using this method but I need to ask, is that brass pipe an actual tool I can go find or is it just tubing that you cut and using to notch the holes for the magnets with?

    • @EvilTedSmith
      @EvilTedSmith  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I bought this set of tubing to cut foam with. Brass tubes. amzn.to/2OHWkRj

    Hey evil ted or anyone. I love costuming and I just bought the black series darth Vader helmet. I want to make the suit but the problem is...I'm 5'5. How can I make shoe lifts that will make me the tallest I can be without it looking weird.

    Was there a reason you didn't just put the magnets in the ends of the foam, rather than adding that new piece? Was there a failed experiment before this where you tried that?

      He put it round his neck and said it felt a little too snug to allow for fabric to go under it if he needed to so he made it a little bigger xox

    Recently, for a project I needed strong magnets. And, what I was able to find at local stores was extremely limited in size, shape, strength, and availability. So, I resorted to researching potential resourses online... To my amazement, there are more than a few places that have super strong magnets, at cheap prices, any size and shape imaginable, they all ship quickly, and they keep them in plenty of stock. Now..., to keep from sounding like some kind of spammer, I'm not going to list any specific dealers, (Sorry). But, rest assured, they are EXTREMELY easy to find with a quick internet search. (I hate being vague about this. But, I don't want to be accused of spammimg.)
