I logic'd out that Pearl shattered Pink really early on, given Pearl's inability to speak of it but I also had the "Rose was Pink" theory and couldn't reconcile the two. That they BOTH turned out to be true was incredible and I was SO smug because the "Rose = Pink" theory was VILLIFIED online at the time before the reveal.

I really hated the theory but the closer and closer we got the more it had to go that way.
I had hoped I was wrong but it happened. 😅

its a small detail but i still LOVE how pearl's gem functions. pearls are created when some irritant gets inside an oyster/ clam, and to protect itself from getting sick, it creates a buildup of nacre, that shiny stuff you see on the inside of the shells. it builds, layer by layer, until eventually you get a pearl! so when steven goes through her gem, its literally going back through the "layers" of her past. its awesome

I don't see many people talking about it but GOD the soundtrack for Pink's "shattering" is so good. You can hear Pearl's piano and Rose's strings, but you can hear Pink's synth as well further symbolizing how Rose and Pink are one and the same.

You really hit the nail with amethysts reaction. Honestly that episode cemented her as one of my if not my favorite character in who show. Her growth is beautiful, and I adore the relationship that she has with Steven.

Me personally? Im TERRIBLE at predicting outcomes in shows, and so Pink Diamond's reveal came as a huge shock to me.
When i met my partner and showed them SU for the first time, they predicted the Rose Q/Pink D connection SOOOO EARLY. It blew my mind.
I love how SteveUni creates such an entertaining experience for both those of us (like me) who are completely no thots head empty AND for those who are super analytical (like my partner). We both absolutely adore SU, and im so glad i got to share it with him. Its so fun to see someone experience the show for the first time, no matter how quickly or slowly they figure out the twists

Like or hate her Pink Diamond is one of the best dead parent characters from CN because she actually gets to be a flawed character rather then a one note good or evil person.
Most parent characters who die before the story starts usually are idealized as a pure good or evil person which makes them boring.
The only problem with her is at the end of the series she was used as a scape goat in the sense of everything was blamed on her and all the living characters got second chances.
I wish the show did more with the idea of can you redeem the dead.

@nxomiiig The thing about relatable characters I feel sometimes get forgotten is to be relatable means you have to be flawed.
Pink Diamond has done terrible things but at the end of the day her choices were based on the fact she was selfish.
Everyone has someone on there life they have abandoned and mistreated, Pink is just an extreme example of a narrasitist.

I feel like that in Future, Steven was behaving a bit like Sapphire from A Single Pale Rose.
Like here, Steven CHOSE to focus specifically on everything Rose did wrong and forgot everything she did RIGHT

Really sick video, I'm sure I subconsiously clocked that Pearl feels guilt for basically being the one to start the war, but hearing it said out loud really highlights how messed up it must feel for Pearl. She is one of the messiest characters in this series and i love her for that
I love that scene with Amethyst, she really had come leaps and bounds in her maturity - going from trying to torment Greg by shapeshifting into his dead wife to now realising how messed up it is that she and the other gems who are basically meant to be adults are using this poor 15 year old kid as their support systems for trauma and problems he shouldn't be having to deal with.
I remember intially being totally blindsided by the reveal - I'd heard the theory floated but I just assumed that Rose shapeshifted into Pink Diamond, it was only the episode after when I realised "Oh wait Rose WAS Pink"

I agree that the Crewniverse did a great job in leading everyone to the reveal while still offering plenty of red herrings to make everyone second-guess themselves. I saw a lot of "Rose was Pink Diamond" theories on Tumblr while the show as airing and agreed with a lot of the neat theorycrafting....and then The Trial came out and there was just enough there for fans to momentarily go "Wait a second. Could Yellow be responsible for Pink's shattering? Could White be responsible for it, if Yellow's outburst here isn't guilt?" It was a really fun time, and luckily for me I was in the section of SU Tumblr that enjoyed and celebrated the reveal instead of getting weird about it.

I remember in college during a figure drawing class I got into a 3 hour debate with a kid about Steven universe that started with him saying the plot and twist were like ridiculously elementary and I told him bc the point wasn’t that we’re shocked to figure out pink was rose, it’s because if you start from the beginning of the season the twist is Rose was not this benevolent perfect healing being, in fact, she was very destructive to most things. Selfish. Rude. Arrogant. Childish and immature. Impulsive and all around a pretty bad person. And idek if I’d call it a twist it’s more of a slow reveal. The point was they build Rose’s image in this way that’d made to be perfectly ‘shattered’ (sorry) later when we learn about her past identity and then all the grievances Rose left behind.

13:25 Autocraptions creatin a freudian slip, swapped gray for gay here; so we get a morally gay Rose - which is also accurate

For me Rose Quartz will always be the most impactful plot twists for me. She wasn't innocent but she wasn't as vile. I feel her tragedy was the beauty of it all. She didn't want to be associated with her family but she wasn't able to escape her past sins.

oh God I remember when this episode dropped on CN. I was beyond furious that the Rose-is-Pink-Diamond Theory was right, but it was such a good reveal, I quickly got over it by the next episode. The suspense and build up, the music, Pearl going through it, and Rose's character becoming even more complated. The writer's cooked with this one. I will say, I can think of very few characters can Haunt the Narritve the way Rose does outside of Lyannna Stark and Rheagar Targaryen do in ASOIAF
That being said, I was 16 when this episode aired, and it is a core memory because as soon as The Reveal, shenanigans ensued in my room, and I had a huge bruise on my head.
It aired when I still shared a room with my siblings, and had a bunk bed. I was sitting on the bottom bed, my brother on the floor, sister on the ladder. At the time, I was a huffing copium and was a firm Rose-Is-Pink denier. (It was obvious, but I remember really hating the theory. I can't remember why, but I really didn't want it to be true) The reveal left me so shocked, I screamed, jumped up and hit my head on the top bed, making my sister feel off the ladder and land on top of my brother. This led to both my siblings mocking me for being a Rose-Was-Pink non believer, leading to use fighting. I lost the 2-on-1, and was left with bruises 😂

I think, upon reflection, i don't really like the direction they went with the ending. It was certainly an interesting ending and has it's strong points, but imo it would have been so much cooler to see something more character based so the show could continue to discuss the impact find out something life altering but being unable to talk to the person responsible can have. Idk how easy it would have been to work the other diamonds into that tho lol. I just prefer character work to spectacle. Idk, maybe a visit into Rose's room again would have been interesting.

I still remember how it was near taboo to cling to the idea of Rose Is Pink Diamond before the reveal bc so many people were so *convinced* this wasn’t the case and it couldn’t be it
By the time of the reveal, in all the circles I saw, it was at best, a joke theory bc XYZ
I still remember watching with my girlfriend at the time and *screaming* in our mutual friend’s dorm room about it going canon
    also less related but
for what it’s worth, I really like this style of video, I found it pleasant to turn on and listen to while cooking

I've been studying Rose's reveal while structuring my own reveal in a long fic--and the biggest lesson from it was using the word "structure" to describe it. A good twist simply elaborates on a collection of tiny things that didn't quite make sense in the way the world turns. It just so happens to work perfectly when paired with a "parents are people" story.

On Amethysts reaction and it showin a ton of growth on her part, this is also one of the parts of the show where they didnt just show us; but they told us as well as a joke for the end of the convo
They just showed us thru her ardent refusal to put more of her problems on Steven, and then to rly make sure to seal the pt home for anyone watchin even half idly; Steven pts out that this makes Amethyst the most mature Crystal Gem
And yeah, she is at that pt showin the most maturity of the all the CGs; and she's actually puttin Stevens safety and wellbein first - which well, even when the gems tried that with "the test"; Steven found out and had to be the mature adult in the room rather than go off on his parental figures for intentionally deceivin him, again forsakin his emotional and mental wellbein even if not intentionally on anyones part
Very very much akin to Gregs parentin approach which forsakes part of Stevens wellbein for the sake of tryin to avoid bein like his parents were to him; which we ofc know cud nvrve happened in a thousand yrs - but Greg hadnt processed things and didnt realise there was a middleground; as is true of many who survive childhood trauma and become parents themselves
Heck, one of the reasons this whole show is so hugely important to me is the fact that sm of the storys main beats, outside of ofc the alien gem stuff (i found a weird blue cube in the forest and got morphin powers instd), echoes my own childhoods traumas and even moreso; the traumas of my parental figures and theirs as well, and theirs as well...
I still dont exactly like either of my bioparents bcuz of countless wrongs, but i can understand my biomoms choices far better thru the lens of Greg, as well as less so thru Rose (i actually vibe myself with Rose a lot instd, heh); she was the funlovin parent who neglected the basic needs of her children but gave them their wants and indulged them even when society wud call that child endangerment...
This resulted in us gettin taken away after too many other children were endangered by her choices - and it left plenty of trauma on me, and i very much blame her for choosin what was fun and what was easy over choosin our safety and wellbein
I understand why as a person she was someone who wud choose such things, but i can still fault her for not tryin to get help sooner; i can still fault her for like Rose, feelin like no one around her cud love her except for what they cud get from her... Esp bcuz she instilled that feelin in me, her defacto eldest daughter of us kids raised together; even long before i knew i was trans and intersex, was alrdy bein given the more commonly gals life and gals trauma 😅 Gender affirmin trauma for the... win? xD
Esp moreso knowin how awful the ppl who raised her and my biodad were, and how awful many of the other adults around them were; i totes understand where them neglectin our safety and wellbein in the interest of tryin to be the cool fun parent who we like unlike their feelins towards their own parents - and i get that they werent able to process these things bcuz of sm reasons they felt justified things; but they still need to hold themselves to account for it - which is smth that my bioparents sadly nvr did, nor did Rose for that matter...
Notably, on our choices, i used to binge drink like my biomom before me. The first time smth major happened and someone else got hurt bcuz of my binge drinkin; i quit, even before anyone tried to convince me to - i decided i cudnt drink anymore; and then my community around me told me they felt the same and further encouraged my sobriety and thats remained true for six yrs come April. It wasnt easy ofc, but it was the only choice i cud make; knowin the consequences of choosin otherwise, and it continues to remain such
The fact it was so simple and obvs of a choice to me was in large part bcuz of bein reraised in many ways by a lovin found family of LARPers, and bcuz of bein taught better than id been raised to believe; it was a very simple and very obvs choice for me - i cudnt imagine a life where i chose any other way, given all that led up to me bein where i was at barely 29 yrs old

I feel like this is a hot take when I say this I feel like rose never really cared about Steven and just fantasized about the idea of being something new this idea which she became in love with when she faked her death for the masses to see only to live as a new person but I feel like with Steven she took that a huge step bigger and the reason why I’m saying that is because when she decided to live her life as rose and the months she spent baring Steven it never came across in her mind or she chose not to think about how Steven taking on her gemstone and basically being a reincarnation of her would cause a Galaxtic sized target on his back from day one a double sided one at that A being a war criminal and being the most wanted figure in the galaxy and basically a shatter on sight order being in place and than B the other side of the coin possessing the gemstone of someone who millions thought was murdered and than for the shock of it all to be she never really died and her gemstone lives on through Steven like rose/pink NEVER coming clean to the crystal gems about who she really was and then expecting them to raise her child after giving them a fundamental lie of who she was for thousands of years and than to never come clean to the diamonds was the biggest offender because the diamonds during the series events were incredibly hellbent on killing rose who they believed was Steven in which they tried to do multiple times and almost succeeded all for rose quartz to never come clean endangering the ones she supposedly loved because she wasent brave enough to stand up for what she believed in as a diamond she truly was

    • @MallyMcAlli
      @MallyMcAlli 9 ชั่วโมงที่ผ่านมา +3

      I don't think that's really accurate.
The Crystal Gems had been left alone for six thousand years. They'd been completely cut off from Homeworld and had every reason to believe that, after the corruption blast, the Diamonds were going to have no more interest in Earth. They had launched their nuke, so to speak, and it's implied that after that they saw no hide or hair of any Homeworld Gems. They could have missed it, of course, we have no idea when the Cluster was planted into the planet, but the speculation leads us to believe it was after Pink's faked shattering and was a result of Yellow deciding to take her grief out on the planet.
Rose had no reason to believe that Steven would ever be in danger because she well and truly thought that, with the War ending the way it did and six thousand years of no contact, Earth had been written off. We see in "Your Mother and Mine" that Homeworld Gems believe that Rose Quartz was defeated, likely thanks to both propaganda and the Diamonds really believing that until Steven gives himself up and is put on trial.
Rose had no reason to ever come clean because she never thought her past would catch up to them the way it did. Whether or not you agree with her choices is a different conversation -- but there's no evidence in the show that she didn't care about Steven, that she didn't legitimately love the idea of "dying" to bring a human being into the world. We could argue that she shouldn't have vanished until she was sure everything was fine but she wasn't omnipotent. She made a choice not knowing what the future held, and her choice, Steven, was probably one of the best choices she ever made, regardless of how that choice impacts her friends and Steven himself.

@@MallyMcAlli Honestly i think after the movie the fandom got a bit of a trauma response because the amount of stuff that is said about her that plain not true is impressive to say the least
Like i completely get not vibing with some of her decisions but it seems like people either didn't pay attention or didnt rewatch the show and just think she was a cold heartless monster that wanted to manipulate everyone around her which the show itself shows...is just not true
