Finn and Jake’s childhood has untapped potential and I’m so upset we didn’t get at least ONE episode in the dog household (do they even have last names?)
@@teentitansrock88 I mean, that's not that far off. Side Quests is an upcoming spinoff that from the description seems to take place in some of the gaps of time in the early seasons when Finn was just excited to fight monsters and go on epic quests with Jake that'll flesh out some of the lesser used side characters. Depending on exactly when Joshua and Margaret died could probably have a few episodes with them and Jermaine without contradicting anything established too much (also Heyo BMO is apparently a literal preschool focused one, but that's more BMO moved out and learning in a new neighborhood rather than a full on younger prequel)
Germaine is a good example of “just because you struggled, doesn’t mean everyone else should”, a lot of older people seem to think their suffering is justified and that everyone is wrong for not suffering too, when really they never deserved that suffering in the beginning. He didn’t realise he’d stayed in his suffering by choice.
This is one of my favorites. The "You could've left any time" "I know" exchange and "I've really built my own cage" line hit me hard even as a kid. I'm glad the show let Jermaine grow and move on, it's an important lesson for people that are feeling stuck
jermaine also changing his entire art style; realistic to abstract (if i remeber correctly) reflects all of this as well. i remember jake being scared that jermaine was in trouble bc he always did realistic art oppose to abstract art. Realism follows consistent rules that are created for you to follow as with anything objectively in our lives. unlike abstract art where u create the purpose for. I think that also symbolizes his detachment for "whats reality" and what isnt
Jermaine is just straight up criminally underused. As far as Finn and Jake knew until the whole alien bio dad stuff started happening Jake and Jermaine were twins (never outright stated I don't think, but we see them born on the same day, that pretty much has to be the "official" story Joshua and Margaret told). Fact that they didn't even seem to go see him on the birthday is wild.
Jake's a literal wild dog and I think his alien genes also affect how sees life, time, interpersonal bonds, etc. I don't like Jake and he isn't my favorite of the bunch, but I love his character and he's well written. Anyways, Jermaine deserved so much better.
I doubt joshua assigned jermaine to watch his loot, idk he doesn't seem like the type to do that. but I think he valued his loot so much that the boys knew someone had to watch it after he died and finn and jake certainly wouldn't stick around to do that, jermaine is "the responsible one" after all. I think he was cool w/ doing it at first, maybe even glad to do it, but the yrs wore him down :0
I think it's a classic case of doing something because no one else would. Finn and Jake probably left without a second thought, leaving Jermaine to decide what to do with Joshua's legacy.
I think that could have been because Joshua saw that Jermaine is potentially more reasonable and responsible than two of his brothers so maybe he found him more trustworthy with the wicked magic trinkets of his which could potentially be very dangerous not only to the boys, but to all of their universe
Jermaine basically being in a prison of his own design is fascinating and sadly relatable at times. Its easy to end up (at least for me) acting in a way which sabotages yourself or makes you miserable, and I feel like Jermaine choosing to let it burn is definitely the healthiest choice he made. Reminds me a bit of Petey from Steven Universe, someone struggling with their own mental health, someone without an ounce of whimsy in worlds brimming with magic. Great video!
Jermaine is literally one of my favorite characters in the whole show. This episode does his character so well, I wish we got more of him but I’d rather have him be in 4-ish episodes than be in 40
You know, I never really thought about it, but we almost never see Jermaine with his brothers, not even on Finn's birthday's. Kind of sad how their relationship deteriorated until this episode. Or maybe he was just too stuck protecting the house. Or both...
Jermaine is a really interesting character and one I wish they did more with. I particularly wish there were an episode with both him and Kim Kil Wan. It’s very clear in hindsight that Kim takes after his uncle more than his father, and I feel like exploring his relationship with both would have made for an excellent episode
8:53 Jake ran off to be a criminal when he was young and likely only after their parents died he semi cleaned up his act when he moved into the tree house. No clue why fin didn’t know. Maybe he just wandered off
We see that fin was still very young during Jake’s criminal days in the BMO episode of Distant Lands. Dogs reach maturity in a few years where people take like 20 so Fin probably just doesn’t have many memories from Jake’s younger years.
Finn was most likely still a toddler when Jake was becoming a young adult because of how dogs age differently to humans. Jake is in his 30's-40's while finn becomes a teenager
ive seen and lived things similar to Jermaine, he was holding his folks values, literaly and psicologically, and that was his cage, i love that the episodes after we see him free and making a life of his own, just like jake did.
Is the reason why Jake gave up a life of crime to be Finn's roommate because their parents died and left Finn behind as a child...? I never considered it before but Jake is basically taking up the parental role for Finn despite them more living as roommates... he's Finn's legal guardian
I just think it's great he befriended the demon in his basement and they just walk off into the sunset at the end. Made doubly more fun by that demon becoming Jermaine's agent/seller for when he becomes an artist.
What I love about this episode is how Jermaine and the demon share the same voice actors with Greg and Marty from Steven Universe. You can't unhear it in the slightest.
You know, It’s hard to forgive yourself. It really fucking is. Especially when you could never be forgiven by that you’ve hurt. But I can say that this perspective has helped. Don’t forget what you’ve learned. But don’t let it control who you become.
That drink he's got, the face is a mug, it's a mug drink. It's mug beer. Also jermaine knows if his brothers helped it'd be a lot better, not baseless just crazy.
i think another thing that they allude to in the show is that parents are "products of their time" and therefore cannot be correct on all matters. The main reason for that is their dad wanting Jake to call Finn a little baby and bully him into being an adult or a man in the dugeon episode. It's even more obvious given his translatantic accent. Their father is dead, he and his beliefs are rooted in that past - what he does after (the holo tapes post mortem) are echos of the past, and must be taken with a grain of salt.
So, recently my phone started having this green line in the middle of the screen, and it covered up the P on pursuit, making the title "The fursuit of misery" lol Just thought I'd share XD
The bear costume is fun because they wave it away as his pajamas and not a dream metaphor, but there's an easy symbolic line you could draw between it and the talking teddy bear tape that keeps Bryce at bay. Jermaine had to rewind that tape every day for years while Bryce taunted him, and at the end of the episode when Jerm's old life burns away, Bryce says he destroyed the bear and both of them walk away as comrades (and stay close in their new lives). makes me think the writers had that in mind when giving him the bear jammies
Great video Jermaine, he was always one of my favorites. I feel like some music in the background of the video could help a lot with the tone your going for though
I think leaving ur kids with a mess you started and never finished yourself is a bit odd, some might call it a legacy, but it’s more like halfly Building a piece of furniture and then burning the instructions while its only half built! idk I mean he could have left anytime but already having a House is pretty nice instead of trying to find one yourself, but you should never feel like ur staying just to live up to ur parents goals and responsibilities because ur not them ur, ur own person! But if you truly do wanna try finishing that unbuilt piece furniture without the instructions its totally ur choice too.
I deeply and genuinely hated this episode and the character of Jermaine for a long period. When I first I saw this episode I didn’t absorb the conclusion Jermaine comes to, to the same extent that I took in his struggles. Now with fresh eyes and several more years of life experience I recognize that I was repulsed by Jake’s brother because I very strongly saw myself in it.
