Love the vid and the format. Perfect. You showed what layering up with the new paints did, and then glazed as part of your finishing touches, without glazing in between steps (which shows the the application of the paint via the advertised system).
I've been scoping out a lot of the new Army Painter line lately so I can break away from the Citadel line. Came here to say I absolutely love that particular blue Captain though, absolutely gorgeous.
From this video I can only really tell that the base dark grey has good coverage. The rest of the colours don't really test the coverage that well. I'd love a video that tests the coverage of all of these paints, given that it's one of the main qualities advertised about this new line!
As always, excellent painting. Love the purple under painting, it really sells the mini, which looks battle-worn with the way you've applied the colours. Great stuff )O(
RECIPIE: spray prime black terrestial titan (dark grey/purple) baselayer, leaving black in receses. replaces 'imperial navy' from triad system. regal blue layer royal blue layer crystal blue layer arctic gem layer bright sapphire layer plasma coil glow (effects) to blend / glaze, 2x coats to boost saturation (could use warpaints fanatic 'blue tone' / 'dark blue tone' washes all over, but would need to re-do highlights - not done in video) reinforce crystal blue highlights brigade grey thinned with warpaints stabiliser medium & water for brightest spot highlights
I'm trying to paint Ultramarines in a similar blue to that of retro Marines - from second edition. Which of these blues do you think would be best for that? I'm stuck on Royal Blue and Crystal Blue.
At the 3:00 mark you mention that the third and fourth colors are your base color options. What are colors one and two? Shadow colors? Thanks (love your videos btw!)
The Triad system was originally (and is still) done by Reaper Master Series paints. Super interested in these new Army Painter Fanatics line and will for sure be purchasing in the future. The value proposition on Speed Paints is dramatic compared to other manufacturers.
@@DonSuratos You get a lot more for your money. AP Speed gives a better value proposition to the consumer, as compared to Games Workshop Contrast... outside of a few specialty colors. :)
Great content. I really like this approach, just takes ages doing squads so tend to minimise the steps. And this works with any paint range as I have the existing AP range and unlikely to get fanatic range due to price.
I'd love a video that just tests the coverage (properties) of all of these paints, given that it's one of the main qualities advertised about this new line! Keep up the good videos!
Ahhhh… like painting all of the paints on a 3d printed model? Oh my… I do NOT do that. This channel is primarily a “painting channel” and not a review channel. 😊
Are there any plans for testing a triad in order? I like the video, but my understanding of the triads is that you use them to select the paints to base/shade/highlight. Getting a triad preview video and it starts with not using the triad system itself was not what i expected
@@DonSuratos Well, yeah? I'm not saying your video was bad or anything, it was just meant to be a question about using the whole of a triad. If the answer was no, that's fine? It was just a curious question
@@jameswithabee9315 My bad actually! I keep on doubting the triad system and it showed by using the purple here. I will try to explain in my next video why I do. But the darkest color of the triad ( I think ) did not affect the finish too much. At least in this case.
Everyone alks about the “insane coverage” , but how do they glaze? It’s good to have a good coverage, but how much does it stops you from getting smooth transitions while layering and glazing? Also, it’s pretty clear that those color cannot fully take advantage of an underpainting and the color variation brought by the transparency
So my question is what is to prevent someone from buying a bunch of white and each of the darkest of the triads? At 4.25 per bottle need to stretch my dollar a lot further. They look fantastic BTW, but even at 3.50 per paint in the complete set it is still 750ish dollars for the set, that is a lot of money when each of the triads are just a brightened version of a single color. I am buying this for the base paints not the effects paints or washes or the like. How many sets of the base triads are there, I am guessing like 30, that is a lot of money for what is essentially 30 colors and their lightened versions. Maybe I am completely off base and there is something else going on, if so please let me know.
Oh… Not here to convince you specially about the economics of buying hobby products man. Just here to show how the paints with actual painting videos. Less talking head. 😊🎨🎨🎨
@@DonSuratos that's fine, I am honestly just curious, it is a lot of money and I am looking to see if it is as it appears that it is 30 paints each with white added. If so that doesn't seem like the best value proposition. If there is something different I would love to hear it, or if there is something with the paint stability that doesn't permit that, or if some are not white thinning, but some ivory or some warms and some colds, etc. Just want more details really. The coverage and consistency seems excellent, but want to know what I am buying if 30 colors with variants, that is fine just want to know.
@@DonSuratos I asked this same question on an army painter video and they confirmed you can just lighten the darkest shade and they have 27 unique shades.
Love seeing the Flexible Triads being put to work by your hands Don!
Preordered the complete set. I’m a new(ish) painter and can’t wait to get better learning and using this system. Very impressed with TAP - thank you!
@@Bearcaved Complete set! You will ENJOY this system! 😊
You guys did a very very good job on the triad system and the color designs. 😊🎨🎨🎨
Agreed
@@BearcavedWhere did you find it for preorder? I saw some for north of $675, which seems a bit much for me to justify to my wife.

Yes! I refrained soooo much not to glaze too much to show how the paints layer as designed. Thanks! 😊🎨🎨🎨

This is just unreal painting! WOW!!
Oh also, great format. Mix and match as you see fit, but i asure you, doing this is extremely beneficial to not only us, but you as well.

Really liked this video and the new TAP paints. Would like to see more of that.
More to come! Thank you! 😊🎨🎨🎨
I have to say, this mini really does resemble a couple painting i have done. This is so my style. Love it 👏 👏
Awesome! How I wish we can post photos in replies. 😊🎨🎨🎨
Your videos are a pleasure to watch.
Wow thanks! 😊🎨🎨🎨
Good stuff. Looking forward to the release.
Thanks man! 😊🎨🎨🎨
These paints look truly superb and excellent painting Don
Thank you! 😊 Excellent paints indeed! 🎨🎨🎨
Such a cool style to Paint. So nice 👍
Thank you! 😊🎨🎨🎨
Excited to see you bend the triad system! Hyped for your next videos ❤
Actually… same! Videos next week will start to bend the triad. 😊🎨🎨🎨
The format is good, and the painting tips excellent.
Thank you! 😊🎨🎨🎨
Great video very concise but enough to show what the paint is xapable of 🤘🤘
Awesome! Thank you for the feedback! 😊
That's one of the best things about this triad system, it's a great help but it's not law that has to be strictly adhered to 👍
Totally agree! But I must say, it does helps more than I expected. 😊🎨🎨🎨
That coverage is insane! They really fixed the old line's issues!

This channel is more of a painting channel… so there will be NO video showing me painting a ton of printed minis to show coverage. 😊
Actually, I am NOT used to the coverage. I am still trying to get used to it. 😊

I have yet to try the greens 🥬 bro. Will probably have green triads next week. As I paint my Typhus 40k giveaway mini. Cheers! 😊

How do you find their whites? Wondering if they will be as good or nearly as good as pro acryl white.
very easy system¡ I hope more videos ....maybe reds??🤔. Gracias
One of the Red triad coming tomorrow bro. Thanks!
Can someone explain the AP triad system to me? I don’t get it. How do I know which colors form a triad?
Greta job Don, but i have AN answer... witch kind of sequence of color you would use for a Blood Angeles space marine?
Blood Angels is Red right?
Of course, like Ultramarines are blue...

Yeap. 😉🎨🎨🎨
