You ask for suggestions .... I am in my 70's, bought our retirement home while in our early 50's. "I" was overzealous in planting and creating shrubs and flower beds. "I" created a lot of maintenance and problems. Stay simple. Get your skirting up as soon as possible, those snakes are looking for a cool, dry place to nest. Be sure and install small ventilation fans in your skirting, at least two, one blowing in and one drawing out. These are not costly and will keep mold and mildew out, also help keep your house cool in the summer (heat rises). Do not plant anything that is HANGING OVER your house or obstructing access to it. Alway be able to walk completely around you home, in case of plumbing, rodent problems, (you want easy access for any repairs and maintenance. THE OLDER YOU GET, THE MORE IMPORTANT THIS BECOMES. Watch how the water runs and where does it pool up when it rains. Create small water catchment area where it pools and drainage to help the water run to these areas. You can have multiple catchments for dry seasons. You can plant small vegetable gardens close to these areas, also your wildlife will thank you.

May I suggest you lay down a cement pad to put your tiny home on? Because where it is now is slightly sloped. And when it rains heavily, the sand/dirt will wash away. Then your park model will shift, move & become unlevel. Just a thought.

My husband and I retired about 6 yrs ago from sea level, SoCal to mountains of Northern AZ at 5,500 ft. elevation. Getting our bodies used to working in this elevation took a little time, but we did.
It sounds like your goal is to be completely self sufficient, off-grid. Our suggestions for you are:
Look for people that are already living a self sufficient, off-grid lifestyle and pick their brain. Especially find out what mistakes they wish they had known about so you are able to avoid those mistakes, saving time and money.
Self sufficiency will cover water, food & shelter to start out with.
Water - You're in southern CA in the dry hills it looks like. Even though you have had a couple of wet weeks during the winter, usually there is a long dry summer/fall of 'fire season'. A water catchment system is a good idea but it doesn't rain there every day or even every week and sometimes not even every month. Our suggestion is to tap into your aquifer and drill a well. If you have a pond with a natural spring, you are blessed! Clean & aerate the pond so you can introduce good eating fish. Fish are a great source of protein & whether it's your own pond or a local stream/river, fishing is an inexpensive way to feed your body well! ALSO, hand on to the guts and heads for great plant food.
You can supply your fresh water holding tank to supply your home through a filter syster, directly supply your enclosed greenhouse. Raised beds and walls that start below the surface will keep you from feeding the critters that are looking for a free meal. Never stop researching to improve your supply of water.
Food - besides your greenhouse for vegetables and fruits, build a chicken coop with easy access to the eggs. Build it close to the kitchen door. On those cold windy or rainy mornings, you don't want to have a long trek for breakfast. Research the Wildlife that is indigenous to your property and area for hunting whatever protein you like to bbq. If you don't have a hunting rifle, get one asap & target practice frequently. This does 3 things; #1. makes your aim more accurate so as to not waste expensive ammo, #2. warns the apex predators to stay away #3. gives you something to protect yourself with if one of those apex predators wants to dine on your chickens or pets.
ALSO research your indigenous plants & flowers. Many are edible. You can add them into a salad, make teas, make remedies & salves, use for seasonings. Look online and purchase a book on your specific area's vegetation. Keep it in your library for future references.
Shelter - having reliable shelter includes water & power. An off-grid solar panel system & lithium ion batteries for solar storage.
Remember: tending to the things that supply your needs every day will pay off in the end. Once you have the basics down, you might want to think about expanding. A variety of animals to raise for fresh meat. And think about smoking meat and fish for the off seasons. Also learn how to 'can' your fruits and veggies. You get out what you put into your homestead.
Once you are expanded, think about some kind of sellable or tradeable items that people want or need. This will take you from surviving to THRIVING off-grid.
    We hope this was helpful.
    Jeremiah 29:11

As per your request for suggestions, I'd offer that u make that center area as beautiful and low maintenance as possible, ie a bench, some pretty flowering trees or bushes and a type of ground cover that isn't grass but like a moss rose instead so that u don't have to mow it. The moss rose is very pretty n yet u can walk on it bcuz its very hearty

These two videos that I watch for really nice I watched them bring in your tiny home and set it up. I just forgot to comment on that video cuz it pops straight to the next one on the next one I was watching you guys all your husband should I say take down the green tape off of the Windows of the tiny home and you said it took 3 hours and you said it probably wouldn't have took that long if you would have did it soon as they delivered it. The tiny home is so adorable I know you guys are going to fix that property up so nice when you guys put something down to pay the ground I will put something down that way you won't have to keep doing it every year like sometime the Rocks they're good but sometimes the rain washes them away so maybe you can think of something different something better or maybe the Rocks is what you want but anyway I'm here to be watching I love this channel already let me go on to the third video looks like another one has popped up just saying.❤🦋💙💞

Plant native flowers, that are drought tolerant, and will repel wildlife, and attract pollinators. Forget about grass, unless it is a native species. I am a California native, of seventy-four years, but from Northern California. I love what y'all are doing. Your home is beautiful, and so is your property. Remember, gardening is always an experiment. Don't fret over the small stuff, and have fun. You are a beautiful couple! Take care, and God bless!

You asked for comments well one comment is when you drill a well at least go down to the fourth pocket of water in it will save you time and trouble you will not run out a water if you do this you have many different pockets of on your property so therefore go to the least the 4th pocket of water where it doesn't cause you to run out when you have a continuous flow of water coming out of your when you drill been there done that!

But I couldn’t figure out exactly where you were with all the trees in Southern California. There’s not much vacant land. It looked like yours in Southern California so I like the looks of it would even be better if it wasn’t in Southern California or California, but that was your choice and that’s OK. I chose to move to Arizona 92 and that was the best thing I ever did. However, along the Colorado River area, everybody loves to come here to play in the river in the lake. Snowbird just come in all the snowbirds decided to stay so it’s kind of growing now there’s no place to live so I live kinda like California.

Keep pluggin ya'll you doin good. It takes a long time, but when that day comes where all that work starts paying off you will be glad you did it. Homesteading is a job that never really ends but you do have milestones where you can be happy with reaching your goals.
A donkey will help keep them snakes down. And goats will take care of the grass lol
I thought a pond and waterfall feature would be nice for the center part of the circular drive but with the rattlesnakes probably not a good idea. Rattlesnakes like rocks so be extra careful in your rock pile areas. Im rooting for ya'll

Are you doing an awesome job? Keep up the good work. Surprised you stayed in California. I’m glad I left. Praise the Lord. However there’s no perfect place to live so if it works for you, that is the thing that is perfect. However, I’m going to say, be careful on your stairs because I knew somebody stepped out of their trailer and the snake was under the stairs, so just use a little caution cause they could be under the stairs. I’m not saying this to you but just use a little caution. You got a lot to do but so far looks pretty good.

That house would be really nice with a deck built on the side. A gazebo outside and a fire pit would be awesome on that land.
