Embarrassing that I used Din’s fire once when I was fighting Dark Link two days ago. Than I realized wait I should try to be badass and beat him with only the master sword
Dark Link also Z-targets you and shares your number of hearts no matter what. But I'm still wondering why they never added a way for normal link to jump on swords.
That's because he is slowly manifesting and "downloading" (can't think of a better word) who link is. Who ever entered there would end up facing themselves. Once he is fully manifested he becomes completely hostile and will attack regardless if you do or not. Also fun fact he has the same amount of health as you do, so if you enter with 3 hearts he will also have 3 hearts.
@@ionlyspeakmeme1810 so if someone was to somehow make it there with only 3 hearts it would be more trouble for the person because just because he has 3 hearts doesn't mean he's on level 3 difficulty
Interesting notes: - While your jump attacks typically deal double damage, Dark Link's do not deal amplified damage to you, as seen in the video. - Dark Link becomes more aggressive as time passes and his model becomes more opaque. Initially he only reflects and counters your own moves but as he progresses, he'll start to strike out on his own terms. This, however, can actually be his undoing as it means you're able to block with your shield and counterattack while he's stuck in recoil. It's a short window of time and tricky to take advantage of, though. - Dark Link's taking damage animation is reminiscent of Zelda 2 - The Adventure of Link, possibly a direct reference, where this boss first debuted (on the NES). - Because Dark Link is able to counter any and all stab attacks, if you're going for an aggressive approach, it might be wise to not Z-target him so as to not accidentally stab. You'll both likely take hits more often because the strikes will come in from awkward angles making them more likely to land on each other, thus speeding along the battle. - Additionally, Dark Link's ability to jump on your sword may be a subversion of the Zelda 2 exploit that let you beat him easily by just crouch stabbing in the corner of the room repeatedly. - Dark Link has no magic ability. He does perform a quick spin attack (360 stick spin + B) in the video, but there's no energy wave. - Dark Link's health scales to your own. Extra heart containers do not give you an advantage but bottled fairies and potions do. - An undocumented kind of slash can be performed by holding the stick to the right and pressing B, a diagonal slash that is mentioned nowhere in the manual. This seems to be better at getting past Dark Link's defenses, but using it while targeting is risky because due to the changing angles of the fight you may risk doing an easily countered stab instead (forwards+B). - Dark Link can get stuck slashing at open air, much like you can, when he really wants to turn to face you. In fact, it seems that Dark Link's movements follow the exact same rules as Link's mobility does, even down to Dark Link using emulated controller inputs to determine what he does. However, there are some unfair advantages the AI gets. - Using some Gameshark codes it's possible to spawn Dark Link in the Temple of Time and switch controls with him, resulting in some interesting revelations. It reveals that whenever Dark Link backflips, he gets invincibility frames -- as with Dark Link now using Link's character models, you see him flash red (as if being hit) when he flips.
When you stop using Z-targeting and you realize the fight is easier that way, I always interpreted that in-universe as Link realizing that the only way to defeat a mirror of himself is by abandoning all form and being random in his attacks, since Dark Link is not used to anything except Link's normal fighting style.
Real players use the Master Sword to defeat Dark Link. Only wimps use the Megaton Hammer, Din's Fire, or the Biggoron Sword. Edit: Ignore what past me said. Anyone can fight Dark Link in their own way. Though I still go by my standpoint that the fight would still be cooler if you fought him as intended.
He progressively gets harder throughout the match. You can tell in the video because at first he won't attack you unless you attack, then later on he attacks on his own and will dodge a bit better, and then even later he will start spin attacking and jump attacking on his own. So the darker he is the harder he gets XD

Thing about Dark Link (if you want to fight him with master sword only) is to get him to start attacking you (when he solidifies) but you want to be the out of the range for a jump attack. Because he mimics your jump attack, you want him far from you so you can pull off another jump attack thus hitting him. To get him out of ur range, you can either do spin attack (which he will just back flip away from you creating more distance) or run away from him and put iron boots
