Trains with Cabooses

- At one time, cabooses could be seen on just about every train in North America. Today, their use is very restricted, but they can still be seen on heritage railways and even in regular freight service as what the railroads call "shoving platforms". In this video, we will take a look at several different scenes of the caboose in use that I have filmed over the last decade. Locations include several different railroads in the west, midwest, and eastern US as well as Canada.

That 2nd clip, that’s the local going from Canyon Country to Newhall! Used to watch them every Saturday morning as a young kid!!! That’s awesome
I shed a few tears of joy when those old steam engines were doing their thing 👍and that last Caboose is on Marine View Drive in Everett Wa. I’ve seen it lots of times and it never goes anywhere!

These are the best ambient noise, I fill the house with them while I'm working and sometimes play music alongside. Just watched the Cuyahoga Valley Scenic Railroad line come in and out in Peninsula, Ohio last weekend and it got me hooked on train sounds again. Thought I would leave a comment to tell you how much I appreciate your recordings and anyone like you who makes the same kind of recordings.
Mainly I see them used for switching platforms now.
Wish all trains still had them.
Such an icon of the American Railroad.

Cabooses need to make a comeback
Good morning, a fantastic video from many railway companies, whether standard gauge or narrow gauge, the magnificent cabooses are simply beautiful. Very nice. Used to love seeing cabooses. It also meant the end of the train - but trains weren't so long in those day. When counting cars - 100 plus was a looong train. LOL
I think its nice that railroads, aside from scenic ones, still use cabooses :)

Surprised SRY Rail Link didn't make the list! We use cabooses for one final train out here, mostly as a shoving platform/lunchroom.

If you want to see cabooses, I recommend going to short line railroads! They will be using them as shoving platforms, and you can maybe see a crew Member, example: this video!

Now that I think of it I don't think I see cabooses on trains that much anymore.
They stopped using them in the late 80s/early 90s. they get very minimal use today

Maybe somebody here knows why the signals are still active (a few months ago) through Clearview and several other crossings. Power to the box (could hear buzzing). All of this while they were tearing out the tracks through Woodinville.
You should make a video on the CNF oil trains on the Bellingham Subdivision. I bet that would be a good watch.
I saw what I think was a Burlington Northern caboose at the end aof a regular sized bnsf freight train.

Definitely a nice variety of cabooses across the country. I also have an idea. Since your channel is almost to 1 million subscribers, I was wondering if you could make a philanthropy channel and take the ad revenue generated from it and put the money towards rail preservation projects including historic locomotives and rolling stock.

I feel like you dint really see an old caboose anymore. Brake vans aren't really a thing in the uk either bar heritage freight hauls.
