I love the idea of Woodie being able to carve stuff from wood. It's totally something a lumberjack would know how to do, and I love the implication that Lucy has a say in how it's done.
I'm so glad this has been implemented so well and is, for a large part, being accepted well by the community. It's such a cool way to make the characters unique and refreshing, even amongst others. They've also done a pretty good job at making players want to diversify their trees, and not all sticking with the exact same setup! :D
I really hope the skill trees will give Walter the help he desperately needs. If Klei wants him to be a primarily ranged character, now’s their opportunity to give him dps that’s at least comparable to other options, and maybe if it’s still lower he could have some combat-related support skills to give him a boost.
Thanks for the opinions on skill trees because its refreshing to not see negativity over them when ive found personally much more enjoyment out of wormwood. As the game gets a more complex endgame and likely will grow more in the future I am really excited about characters feeling still interesting.
Yeah, the Klei forums are just full of people hating on this update for all sorts of reasons, whether it be Wilson "not being special anymore", the gameplay and characters being bastardized and becoming too powerful, new players not benefitting from the skill tree, so on and so forth. The update sure isn't perfect, but it's still not a bad update, especially after Taking Root and From Beyond (which i don't really like, JustExo's video explains the problems with em really well). Either way, it's sad to see how more and more of the community's starting to rally against Klei.
i think insight should be per world, and you start out with 5 or so insight points from spawn (or maybe more depending on the day count) edit: also make insight every 5 days instead, so you could max it out by day 75 (after bearger spawns)
I really like how insight works right now because it may take a long time for us to unlock, but for new players they will already have all points before learning how to survive winter properly (if they dont rage quit and uninstall first)
Woodie didn't just get the long end of the stick, he got the whole tree too. (pun intended) As someone who liked to dabble with Woodie before the skill tree, I can't wait to see how this ends up.
The recent hotfixes has been mostly ok, especially for wormwood. If you already have various hours with a character, will you already have the skill points?
There's client side mods that can max it, for players that have already played the game a bit, the skilltrees are useful to not effect the new players 0-10 day experience, which is a goal of updates for DST/DS generally
I love the skill trees, but they have the unintended side effect of making me want to avoid playing other characters. I'm on day like 150 something on my Wilson world and I'm not sure I would want to spend that much time on a character if I needed to spend like 160 more days unlocking all their skill points after that. I think a really good way to remedy this would be to give the player insight for fulfilling certain story requirements, this would give new players incentive to progress through the game and it would give experienced players that have already played the game a way to unlock perks for all characters without having to wait 36 years (nine actual days of play time) to get all the insight racked up
That's unfortunate, the way I see it the time is essentially mainly so it doesn't significantly effect the experience of new players within the first ten days, (one of klei's goals) and there are client side mods for veterans who have already put the time in
The main things I want a tweak to the skill trees in general is a way to not cheese the timer. They brought in some task unlocked skills with wigfrid which is nice but the skipping days thing just robs you of the experience and reward of playing and learning a character.
@@minegagadoli its not,the player wont be given a list of things to do to gain insight, instead, as he naturally advances through the game (kill a boss, explore the ruins, lunar island, etc) he would gain insight
I feel like it'd be neat if insight was tied to say- killing unique bosses as that character. That way it encourages players to try out new ways to challenge themselves as that character, while being a lot less grindy than just "X amount of days survived" though, at the same time this could be difficult for new players, or they might just start begging people on public servers to kill a boss for them... Maybe like a combo between them would be the best: You still get them passively through days survived, but can speed it up by killing unique bosses so that more skilled players can get it quicker
i honestly think photosynthesis is better than the flower production flowers go into like , 3-4 crafts anyway and even then i wouldn't care about crafting most of these most of the time so it was just a way of getting rot ig , which is good but like , just straight up healing is simpler and photosynthesis makes more sense either way
The big thing that was pointed out to me was that you can feed werepigs petals for poop, so they cover both rot and poop needs. I initially thought petal production was bad until I talked to some wormwood mains about it who were hyping it up real hard, so now photosynthesis just feels like a downgrade
@@JustExo eh fair enough Idk still doesn't sound all that good And honestly , I heard quite a bit of people complaining about wormwood skill tree and the big idea that people proposed was photosynthesis So uh , I mean klei did listen but they replaced one of the perks that was fine with it , in all honesty , idk why would they replace this one that was fine instead of trying to replace fly trap , a skill that I have only heard complaints about , literally not a single person ever said it was good from what I have seen
Photosynthesis makes more sense than petal production if I had to choose, since wormwood struggles with hp recovery. But it needs to be a lot stronger. I think they should make it so that photosynthesis is significantly stronger when in full bloom. But at the end of the day, why can’t they just combine petal production and photosynthesis into one skill? Heck, they could even make it so that the more petals wormwood has, the more hp photosynthesis recovers.
i think photosynthesis is fine for what it is, because wormwood is a very passive character at his core, and being able to passively regenerate HP with little to no resource cost is quite valuable for a more relaxed (and stingy) playstyle
i agree that you shouldnt need to kill bosses to unlock perks. ive been playing woodie for the 1st time in years to unlock all this stuff, and the cane and helmet are nice enough to make woodie viable...but i still transform every full moon which is so annoying that its not even worth it. and since ive never even attempted to kill celestial champion, im tempted to just god mode rush him just to unlock it. but i dont like that idea, so really, i think woodie is just a guy that ill switch into just to explore the ocean, then switch to a character that isnt a headache
The biggest issue with the skill trees (at least with woodie for the time being) is that once you acquire all 15 skill points you get access to all of a characters abilities and strengths from day 1, which (in my opinion) makes the game onwards feel dull and lack a sense of progression.
"people are complaining that other characters have skilltrees and wilson no longer has unique perks, whatever that means" bro it ain't rocket science XD
well while i do agree it doesnt make the characters "overpowered" it does make some alot stronger like wormwood being able to craft berry bushes and saplings without even needing a shovel is quite good and even making a lureplant less than 10 days into autumn or WEEDing out weeds before they even grow to first stage (cringe joke yes) also is decent and also just creating minions that do useful stuff aka fight for you cuz yes, rob stuff on the ground that was meant to rot or attract a gobbler whether you want it to stay there or not, or create a lightbug that essentially is a longer lasting torch please note he has better abilities including auto resettign brambletraps, brightshade items doing special stuff, more efficent mushroom planters, more overheating protection, and more (i forgor what else lol) sapling, carrat: 2 berries: 4(?) lightbug: 5 monkeytails: 9 lureplant/saladmander 12 i think thats it, please list any i got wrong or missed

The big deal with Wilson's skilltree is that he has useless options to pick or are barely scraping the potential to use his abilities. Wilson basically has 7 useless skills made up from these shitty torch "updates", just compare it to any other skills that other characters have (well not the Lord of the fruit flies skill from Wormwood, but even in that case you just spend 1 skillpoint and not 7 bloody points). The alchemy section is the one I really see potential. He can basically swap out ingredients which is actually helpful, if it wasn't for all the waste of ingredients. An example: You can make 2 twigs out of 1 log (that's really good, I even used it myself in a Server with a Woodie, it is such a good combo) but the reversal of that recipe is abysmal: 3 twigs for 1 log, in no reality is that a good deal you want to make, you could craft with an extra flint an axe and be 60 times more efficient. Klei is just to scared that one could just swap out basic resources. More examples: 3 nitre to 1 gold, as if anyone would craft their 30 nitre they have into 10 gold, one should just go for trinkets. On the other hand we can make nitre out of gold which I'm a huge fan of. Gold is always on abundance and nitre is really hard to farm. There are also problems with his higher tier gem crafts. That you need 3 purple to make one orange is easy to understand. Purple gems are somewhat common and therefore justify the high cost. But 3 orange into 1 yellow and 3 yellow into 1 green is absolutely not okay. I understand that Klei doesn't want that one could interchange gems with a construction amulet. But nobody would craft their multiple high tier gems into just 1. You are better off crafting multiple starcallerstaffs or lazy foragers. Also 6 rot into 1 manure that's a joke right? Sadly no.
