There's no electrical connection between the lens and camera, so manual lenses are recommended. Canon and Nikon SLR lenses with a fully automatic iris can have manual control using one of our adapters.
I understand the reasoning behind this (basically using ANY camera and adapting it to your needs) but honestly, if you're working with something photography related, you're probably better off getting something like a D750 and modifying that, which may be even cheaper.
It's not about "using ANY camera and adapting it to your needs". This won't work on DSLR style cameras with much larger sensors. It's about having a small form factor camera that can be mounted to virtually ANY lens in the world (from a microscope to a telescope), recording quality 4K-30/60 and controlling your filters i.e. IR, NIR etc. It's like owning a dedicated screw driver for EVER application, or one screwdriver with interchangeable bits that does everything :) Yes, a DSLR camera with a full frame sensor will always outperform a modified Back-Bone camera in a straight photographic comparison.
PhotoGuru I understand what you mean, but if you're willing to spend enough money to modify a 500usd camera (idk how much the hero7 retails at now), you probably have access to other types of camera that could do the job better. I know I'm just speculating, and many people will surely use this as an alternative, but i just can't think of someone who is interested enough in photography not to have a dslr or a cheaper mirrorless or even a point and shoot they can use instead of this. Don't get me wrong, the possibilities this brings (being able to attach pretty much any lens) is amazing. I just can't get past what I mentioned earlier.
The original GoPro doesn't have autofocus capability but uses a 'fixed focus' lens which is still possible after modding. For run and gun shooting, drones etc there are a wide variety of fixed focus M12 lenses that will give you ~0.5m - infinity. C-Mount & SLR lenses do require manual focusing which can be assisted with the GoPro app or a field monitor.

We recommend using a C-Mount with an adjustable iris that lets in lots of light. One of our favorite closeup/medium lenses for low light is this f2.0 16mm C-Mount: www.back-bone.ca/product/23-16mm-5mp-ultra-low-distortion/
It would be really good idea to place the link on the web to buy these lenses... no se... solo mi opinion...
The lenses we carry can be found at this link, but of course you can use any C-Mount lens and more! www.back-bone.ca/product-category/lenses/
Can i send you the Hero7 and you mount it or can you send me your Adapter for self-mounting?
Hello, we don't currently have a DIY conversion kit for the Hero5/6 & 7 but we do have a conversion service if you already own a compatible camera: www.back-bone.ca/installation/
Are these lenses compatible with the Hero 7 Silver?
Our components are compatible with the hero 7 black only. The Silver has different dimensions and internal structure
i wish they release this on gopro 8.
Do these work for go pro hero 7 silver?
Just the Black model I'm afraid. The Silver and White models have much smaller image sensors so we decided to concentrate only on the Black
Can you still use the waterproof case with small/original lens
Axel Edwards nope
The image sensor is moved forward during the conversion, so the original lens sits farther forward than before. As a result it will not fit in the Super Suit with a lens.
What about its water resistance? Is its still 10m waterproof?
The camera is no longer water proof after the modification as we must remove the original lens and expose the image sensor.
Went to the site to find a kit to modify the Hero 7 Blacks I already own, but nada. Anyone else run across them or is a DIY kit just a unicorn?
We don't actually offer a DIY kit for GoPro 5/6/7/8/9 as it's very difficult for most people to open the cameras without causing permanent damage. We have special equipment that allows us to do that safely. In addition to selling complete ready to go cameras, we do offer an installation service for people who already own their own compatible cameras: www.back-bone.ca/installation/
@@BACKBONEca Fantastic. Thanks!
Can film Night time footage
I LOVE THIS, going to take a look now. BOOM there goes my credit card 👍🏻🤣
the focus problem could be solved using a smart phone as screen, is not that fast, of course, but now is important WHAT you want to do with this one.
If 900 usd is the price, i find it too steep for the limitations it gives Vs. mortal people needs.
Run in GoPro 8 ?
This is sick !! I just ordered the 8 . Wasn’t sure what to do with the 7 . This looks insane !! Why is this only being done now ???
The H7PRO has already been out for a year :-) we've modded every GoPro since Hero3 Black. Dev starting shortly on the 8.
How do you control your aperture???
aperture adjustments are performed manually on the lens
BACK-BONE I can’t adjust aperture on my EF lens
@@Francisfphoto_ If you don't have a mechanical aperture ring on your EF lens you just need to get the right adapter. We offer a Canon EF adapter with a built in iris and mechanical control ring
why the annoying disco??
Does the stabilisation works?
Absolutely. The camera continues to behave like the original GoPro, but with the option of interchangeable lenses.
Yes the Hypersmooth works quite well. As a general rule the wider the lens the better for Hypersmooth. For medium/narrow FOV lenses you can expect it to take out vibration etc but not the big bumps. Makes it much easier to shoot handheld with longer lenses.
@@BACKBONEca I already own your older ones without hypersmooth, is probably about time for me to get a new one ^o^.
Please keep working on your good product.
Wait, is this actually real?
No 😂
Yes www.back-bone.ca/product/h7pro/
Fraction of the cost
waterproof???
That looks so cool
Any link on Aliexpress?
Our products aren't currently for sale on AliExpress but we do have resellers around the world. Check out our reseller map to find one near you: www.back-bone.ca/find-a-dealer/
Do they make this for Hero 5 black ?
Hero 5 is also available. We've modded every GoPro Black edition since hero 3
Cool idea, video well made
What about the new gopro?
Dev starting shortly!
@@BACKBONEca would be awesome to be able to some how use micro 4/3 lenses.
Is it working with Osmo Action?
We haven't developed a mod for that camera yet. Currently we modify Hero4/5/6/7 and Sony RX0 / RX0 II
@@BACKBONEca ok, thanks for reply
Dope project!!
Can you send to indonesia?
Do you lose autofocus for most lenses?
There's no electrical connection between the lens and camera, so manual lenses are recommended. Canon and Nikon SLR lenses with a fully automatic iris can have manual control using one of our adapters.
Where can I get one in the uk please
Our dealer in the UK is seesense.shop/
Pretty damn cool. But I can't afford it at all.
900 bucks
I'm looking for customized Go pro 8 :)
Just my tought 😉😂 ...but i heard the 8 has a fixed body.
Making more difficult i'm guessing
@@Metaldetectiontubeworldwide Oops ... But anyways there must be someway to improve the lenses right? like accessories?
@@LongNguyen-ik5rx let's hope 😉 ...maybe they can get around with it some sort of cage for it ...🙌
Where can I buy one in the uk please

Oh.New idea for Gopro 👍👍👍👍
What's different with lens on a hero 5/6/7 stock and where to buy oem lens for hero 7
That’s unreal!!!
It's like owning a dedicated screw driver for EVER application, or one screwdriver with interchangeable bits that does everything :)
Yes, a DSLR camera with a full frame sensor will always outperform a modified Back-Bone camera in a straight photographic comparison.
Is it still waterproof?
duhhhhh.........NO!!!!!
Wait what?
too bad you cant do it in hero 8 lens is not removable
won't stop us!
Hero 5, 6 & 7 were not removable either. A Hero 8 version will be available soon, I'm sure.
The only downside is no autofocus. :(
The original GoPro doesn't have autofocus capability but uses a 'fixed focus' lens which is still possible after modding. For run and gun shooting, drones etc there are a wide variety of fixed focus M12 lenses that will give you ~0.5m - infinity. C-Mount & SLR lenses do require manual focusing which can be assisted with the GoPro app or a field monitor.
The best photographs knowns to man where taken on manual focus systems before auto focus existed. Dont be lazy.
@@floatingrabbit3556 It's great for photos but for videos, vlogs, it's really hard to make.
this is sick, man!
So this is a kit for the 7?
We sell them as complete cameras or offer an installation service for people that already own a compatible Hero5, 6 or 7 camera
@@BACKBONEca how much is just kit for 7
Great gear, brotha!. But i should think twice of the price. 👍👍👍
Woow... this is a good innovation.
i really like it, i checked the shop, but it's too expensive, i regret it😢
I would not trust mounting those huge lens on a gopro designed for tiny lens, but its a good idea if it works, looks expensive
We recommend using a lens support for long lenses or lenses heavier than 500g (1.1 lbs)
A 4 ounce swallow cannot carry a 1 lbs coconut 'Monty Python and the Holy Grail'.
So you support the coconut, not the swallow.
