The Deep wasn't get kicked out of the seven because he sexually harassed Starlight, he was kicked out because people found out about it and Seven had to recover public trust and image.
It’s almost a perfect mirror image of what happens in Hollywood. A monster is initially exposed, no one in Hollywood says anything at first, then more and more people come out with similar accounts, then a bunch of people in the industry try to “disprove” the rumors, then more and more people come out after that. Eventually, the outpour of accounts is just too heavy for the lie to hold and they’re ousted from the industry. People then forget about all of the people who defended the culprit and life continues on as normal until the next big person is ousted.
On one hand, I can genuinely believe that the people in charge of the show believe in the messages they're trying to put out, it's just unfortunate that literally the only way to spread that message is to work with the type of people they're criticizing. Basically the Starlight situation. Trying to do as much good as you can even if you're working with people who don't share those intentions. But on the other hand, the fact that Amazon can approve of an anti-corporate message is indicative of the fact that they know they can spin that message for profit, which they are. The real question to consider is whether all this does more harm than good.
I think there is a huge amount of irony that this show is made by Amazon and that a large amount of the videos about the boys was sponsored by Amazon as well.
@@escapefromtibet2530 Less likely. I mean, they might find a benefit to having a show like this but the origins of the show almost certainly didn't come out of their PR department but from the minds of the Producers. The producers have the message and it is likely an honest one.
My whole take on the Boys doing all these different things summarized: "Corporations do not give a fuck about you or your politics. They give a fuck about their bottom line. And if their bottom line is Virtue Signalling to the current dominant political theater? Then by god they are gonna play it up as long as it's popular."
pretty much. people complain about 'woke' corporations but that's just a sign of the broadest appeal. if the broadest appeal was lynching minorities corporations would be singing from the rooftops about trees and rope
The problem with that critique is the people in those corporations really do believe the bs and drink the kool aide, they do the progressive cancer thing even if it negatively effects their bottom lines “go woke, go broke,”
The way the show shows how cooperations uses LGBT+ members for profit was SPOT ON. I laughted so hard at the line "You can't be proud on an empty stomach"
Same. I remember that one scene where they show Queen Mave and her ex-girlfriend the designs for their outfits and they say that one of them had to wear more masculine clothing since they were trying to paint their relationship in a more hetero-normative picture. It shows that a lot of big companies like Vought don’t really care about representation or being progressive but rather it’s all just a plastic facade they put up for the sake of boosting their image among the media.

Also i think ur a bit ignorant to the millions of people in the U.S. (black people, other POC, and LGBTQ+ folk) that ARE right now treated as "foreigners" in this country. There are people that have less access to food, healthcare, and opportunity than the majority of straight white people who get to live their lives never worring about things like discrimination and being outcasted. Most people just want to provide for themselves and their families. I dont think we"re on the wrong side here man but the enemy is not "the left" the enemies are those who wish to exploit us and take our individual liberties away. (i.e. corporations, politicians ) we are all just people, doing whats right is making sure EVERYONES children get to grow up in a better world not just our own. Thats what people like BLM and antifa and most on the left fight for. The motif of Homelander solemnly saying “You’re the real heroes.” Is so brilliant because, in addition to virtue-signaling using patriotism and Americana, he’s exploiting our ego and desire for undeserved praise. Even though the adulation Homelander receives is just as undeserved because he was created in a lab. His abilities were given to him and could’ve been given to someone else had Vought chosen to experiment on a different woman. It’s subtle elements like that line that make The Boys such a great show.
@@kynikersolon3882 Factors in the mother like nutrition, stress level, and exposure to extreme temperatures can have significant influences on development of fetuses.
The other funny thing is that when you look at that phrase in a literal sense, Homelander is implying that he is a fake hero. " _You_ are the real heroes. (Because I'm sure as hell not)"
By that exact logic though, DC comics Superman is also not a real hero. Superman is just a random man from the planet Krypton who gets superpowers under Earth's yellow sun. The planet Krypton orbited under a red sun. Every single Kryptonian that ever existed could have gotten superpowers and become a superhero if they had come to Earth. Also by DC comics universe logic, any human from Earth could become a superhero if they went to a planet with a blue sun. (In one DC comic that actually happened when Superman's adopted dad Johnathan Kent went to a planet with a blue sun and temporarily got Superman like superpowers.) I agree with your main point though. Homelander is only loved and respected because he has superpowers and because he lies about fighting to defend America, not because of anything he actually did. Also I also think it's true that many people really do enjoy and appreciate empty compliments.
My favourite moment from S2 was when Stormfront was saying to the kid about 'white genocide' and even Homelander made a face like 'umm I'm not sure about that one' 😅

Okoye could never be like Captain America because she already has prior loyalties to the Isolationist Wakanda while Captain Marvel has shown regard to submitting herself under a governing other than being superhero. Marvel can't just put a bunch of women together and say "Girl Power!" if it doesn't make any sense.

That scene with the young blind hero who got his ears destroyed by Homelander was the saddest, meanest and most cruel moment in the whole show. My opinion.
Yeah, but ironically Homelander was also right. The blind guy would have been terrible in a real fight. That's what makes him such a great villain. The best villains are the ones who are technically correct. The problem isn't that they're wrong. It's that they're evil.
@@gregcullers7883 Let's hope it never comes to that. Although, from what I've seen, the show has is very different from the comics, so maybe Billy will be able to make peace in the end.

Imagine if instead they had scarlet witch take down the ship, She is one of the most powerful Avengers and if instead you showed her tearing apart Thanoses troops but having to change direction and use her powers to tare that ship down instead severely weakening her temporarily so the rest of the team had to pick up the slack.

To be fair, Wanda was the most powerful one in that shot. Thanos smacks around Danvers, and barely registers her photon blasts, but he had to activate an emergency bombardment because Wanda was about to singlehandedly kill him and he couldn't do a thing about it. Also, Wanda is the far more interesting character. We see her face adversity and loss repeatedly and keep rising above it, and developing. With Captain Marvel we get "Oh look, this woman is super powerful, and a woman! Look how bad ass and self assured she is! And she's a woman! And now she's even more powerful! Have we mentioned she's a woman?" We're told she's struggled against adversity all of her life, but never really shown it in a meaningful way. I can't remember who did it, but there was a video that broke down how they could have re-edited that film to make her story much more interesting and actually shown her growth. But as presented, we had a movie that broke one of the cardinal rules of telling a good story, Show, Don't Tell. Given her power levels in the comics, I hope they aren't as ham fisted with Monica Rambeau/Spectrum. It would be far too easy to fall into the same trap, except this time it would be "Look how powerful she is, and she's a Black Woman!", especially after the passing of Chadwick Boseman meaning they have to re-examine any plans for Black Panther and Wakanda. Yes, I'm being cynical but I can easily see a suit in an office saying "we lost the original black headliner, let's push Spectrum into production to make sure we hold on to that demographic" (If they really feel the need to do that sort of virtue signaling, and make sure they have a black lead for a movie to push forward right away, Sam becoming Cap would be best and feel the most natural) With both Tony and Steve gone, if they do a Spectrum movie it should be building her up and ending with her being the new leader of the Avengers (which she was for a while in the comics), or at the least setting that up for her next appearance.
My biggest issue with "she's got help" is that it was completely unearned. Litterally all but 1 of the female heroes in that scene were side characters from movies about men. If marvel wants to do a scene like that, that's fine! They just need to earn it first.

I love the character, but not because of that. I love the character because he's the epitome of what America truly is. It's a pretty face covering up the atrocities committed. Germany made a lot of mistakes, but at least they admitted their faults.
Homelander creating his own supervillains reminds me of the endless wars used to justify the military industrial complex. We must destroy the evil warlords created by the power vacuum that we created by bombing yet another country into a post-apocalyptic hellscape.
And sometimes the insurgent forces we're fighting are people we trained to fight for us in the last war. We trained Al-Queda to fight the commies in the 80's, then in the 00's when we were fighting them we trained some people who formed ISIS.
Do not downplay the roll of beliefs and ideology. For a time ISIS had its own magazine named Dabiq. It’s polish and and editing was on par with any Madison Avenue publication (at least it was until all the editors were killed). They published an article entitled “Why we hate you and why we fight you.” They list the reasons why with the first two being: “We hate you, first and foremost, because you are disbelievers; you reject the oneness of Allah - whether you realize it or not - by making partners for Him in worship, you blaspheme against Him, claiming that He has a son, you fabricate lies against His prophets and messengers, and you indulge in all manner of devilish practices. It is for this reason that we were commanded to openly declare our hatred for you and our enmity towards you. “There has already been for you an excellent example in Abraham and those with him, when they said to their people, ‘Indeed, we are disassociated from you and from whatever you worship other than Allah. We have rejected you, and there has arisen, between us and you, enmity and hatred forever until you believe in Allah alone’” (Al-Mumtahanah 4). Furthermore, just as your disbelief is the primary reason we hate you, your disbelief is the primary reason we fight you, as we have been commanded to fight the disbelievers until they submit to the authority of Islam, either by becoming Muslims, or by paying jizyah - for those afforded this option - and living in humiliation under the rule of the Muslims. Thus, even if you were to stop fighting us, your best-case scenario in a state of war would be that we would suspend our attacks against you - if we deemed it necessary - in order to focus on the closer and more immediate threats, before eventually resuming our campaigns against you. Apart from the option of a temporary truce, this is the only likely scenario that would bring you fleeting respite from our attacks. So in the end, you cannot bring an indefinite halt to our war against you. At most, you could only delay it temporarily. “And fight them until there is no fitnah [paganism] and [until] the religion, all of it, is for Allah” (Al-Baqarah 193). We hate you because your secular, liberal societies permit the very things that Allah has prohibited while banning many of the things He has permitted, a matter that doesn’t concern you because you separate between religion and state, thereby granting supreme authority to your whims and desires via the legislators you vote into power. In doing so, you desire to rob Allah of His right to be obeyed and you wish to usurp that right for yourselves. “Legislation is not but for Allah” (Yusuf 40). Your secular liberalism has led you to tolerate and even support “gay rights,” to allow alcohol, drugs, fornication, gambling, and usury to become widespread, and to encourage the people to mock those who denounce these filthy sins and vices. As such, we wage war against you to stop you from spreading your disbelief and debauchery - your secularism and nationalism, your perverted liberal values, your Christianity and atheism - and all the depravity and corruption they entail. You’ve made it your mission to “liberate” Muslim societies; we’ve made it our mission to fight off your influence and protect mankind from your misguided concepts and your deviant way of life.” The author leaves the foreign policy of the U.S. and other western nations for the final bullet point. As if to make it any more insultingly clear the author goes on to follow up their listing with: “What’s important to understand here is that although some might argue that your foreign policies are the extent of what drives our hatred, this particular reason for hating you is secondary, hence the reason we addressed it at the end of the above list. The fact is, even if you were to stop bombing us, imprisoning us, torturing us, vilifying us, and usurping our lands, we would continue to hate you because our primary reason for hating you will not cease to exist until you embrace Islam. Even if you were to pay jizyah and live under the authority of Islam in humiliation, we would continue to hate you. No doubt, we would stop fighting you then as we would stop fighting any disbelievers who enter into a covenant with us, but we would not stop hating you.”

The superhero genre is a modern elaboration upon mythic fable tropes. It is rarely concerned with what is 'logical,' and never with what is 'necessary.' Its power comes from abstraction and estrangement. Try to look for what a scene means and represents, not how believably it plays out; start in on the story logic, and you're ice skating up a hill, Bud.
@@benmarton7849 Yes but it also relies on a willing suspension of disbelief. And It's hard to believe that in a critical moment like that, ONLY the females would be in that scene without some kind of setup from previous scenes. They could have even made it more organic by having females intercept while she's flying, but adding that group close up scene was just so unnecessary and distracted from its real purpose. Like that scene in The Boys when they beat up Stormfront, no team poses, no girls get it done, just a straight up brawl. It didn't pull you out of your suspension and kept you immersed in the fable. The “authenticity signaling” concept needs to be hyped more. It tends to fly under the radar but in reality it’s just as annoying/harmful as virtue signaling is. It’s almost a perfect mirror image of what happens in Hollywood.

Eventually, the outpour of accounts is just too heavy for the lie to hold and they’re ousted from the industry. People then forget about all of the people who defended the culprit and life continues on as normal until the next big person is ousted.

Basically the Starlight situation. Trying to do as much good as you can even if you're working with people who don't share those intentions.

By that exact logic though, DC comics Superman is also not a real hero. Superman is just a random man from the planet Krypton who gets superpowers under Earth's yellow sun.

Don't forget create a racist campaign against the refugees from places we destabilize...
Do not downplay the roll of beliefs and ideology.
For a time ISIS had its own magazine named Dabiq. It’s polish and and editing was on par with any Madison Avenue publication (at least it was until all the editors were killed). They published an article entitled “Why we hate you and why we fight you.” They list the reasons why with the first two being:
“We hate you, first and foremost, because you are disbelievers; you reject the oneness of Allah - whether you realize it or not - by making partners for Him in worship, you blaspheme against Him, claiming that He has a son, you fabricate lies against His prophets and messengers, and you indulge in all manner of devilish practices.
You’ve made it your mission to “liberate” Muslim societies; we’ve made it our mission to fight off your influence and protect mankind from your misguided concepts and your deviant way of life.”
The author leaves the foreign policy of the U.S. and other western nations for the final bullet point. As if to make it any more insultingly clear the author goes on to follow up their listing with:
“What’s important to understand here is that although some might argue that your foreign policies are the extent of what drives our hatred, this particular reason for hating you is secondary, hence the reason we addressed it at the end of the above list.

Which is kinda what people tend to complain about but can't articulate completely. @@ChaplainJoshuafunny that nobody can ever explain what it is and just consider it anything right of the far left.
@@commanderclown8620Just say you're politically illiterate
@@ChaplainJoshuaJust because you are personally too stupid to grasp the concept doesn't mean it doesn't exist. It very obviously exists, seeing as many people have told their stories of getting out of it. It's very well documented too.
Virtue signaling isnt necessarily a lazy argument, it is meant to be used so as to explain the contrived and deceptive intentions of people who do seemingly "virtuous" things. Their virtue is superficial and purely meant to further their own means
Such a great show, im glad a show about how rebellion is packaged managed to get traction
amazon knows a thing or two about packaging.
tl:dr : Social psychology dictates 99% of what we do. We do things not because we want to, but because we know other people are watching us.
I'm not sure if that's entirely true.

Came here with low expectations. Got a wonderfully unbiased and well thought out socio-political analysis. Well done guys. Bell hit.
I thought that the fact that they put storefront in the Seven , knowing how she acts on social media, was a really funny move. Even sports companies like to have a select few that are a complete opposition to the company itself (while getting paid by them). It creates a realistic environment that gets people going about these characters.
to think that sincerity has become so rare it is almost impossible to spot it anymore and if you did come across it somehow would you even recognize it?
8:50 Man this dialogue 🔥

For those curious
One of the most prominent sociologists who said "everything is a performance" is Erving Goffman, and he wrote a great book on this topic called "The Presentation of Self in Everyday Life".
Its a good read
Matthew 6:2 "So when you give to the needy, do not announce it with trumpets, as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and on the streets, to be honored by others. Truly I tell you, they have received their reward in full."
Not to mention the fact that most shows that introduce a bisexual character will never then show that character in a straight looking relationship ever again. It takes away from their LGBTQ clout
This show really brings to light the danger and power of collectivism, when people structure their lives around a collective identity, like race or gender or religion, regardless if they do it through the lens of the left or the right, they set themselves up for manipulation.
Basically like how Disney pretends to push a progressive outlook, but actually panders to both to maximise profit.
The funniest thing about the show is the subtle messages such as sending certain supes to areas that they “trend well in” or the mentions of trending well with certain demographics.
Thanks for not just ‘punching left’ and actually doing an investigation !
i find it so funny that the only character who hardly ever faked anything was kimiko, who literally couldnt say anything
What really gets me is that a show about all of this is made by Amazon
The Best show on Amazon by far.
Disagrees in Fleabag
I like utopia
The Expanse is better.
Second season of "The Boys" leaned in too heavy into blood and gore and they lost the suspense from the first season. The Boys were hunted by feds and Vaught in the last episode of the first season and the whole of the second season, but the feeling of dread is almost absent from second season. Also, there are so many ex-machina moments in second season and it is only second season, while Expanse is on season five already and still going strong.
People really out here sleeping on Vinland Saga huh? The Boys is dope tho.
Have you seen Utopia?
“Hello there fellow superhero.”
This is why I love this show. It makes fun of everyone on each side. It's over the top and awesome.
It really doesnt. Its always making fun of right wingers. If you think its making fun of leftists you dont know what leftism is.
@@raze_ it does kind of make fun of leftists though like how a lot of people who claim to be liberal are actually just in it for social status and/or money but the show does definitely make fun of the right more
@@Butchass6969 I think Raze meant that liberals aren’t leftists. I could be wrong though. By the way the show did make fun of liberals but nothing further left than that.
Libtards aren't leftists but you centrist fucks can't see the difference
@@Butchass6969 - Liberalism isn't leftism. Liberalism operates under the idea that progress can be achieved through a capitalist system. Leftism is counter to that and recognizes capitalism as the root of systemic, social, and economic inequality and thus the enemy of progress. The show absolutely makes fun of liberalism, but it's doing it from a leftist point-of-view, showing us that corporations adopting the aesthetics of social progressivism are disingenuous and ultimately only care about profit and image. As a leftist, I can confidently say that no one hates rainbow capitalism and virtue signaling more than leftists do.
This is a great satire. It s self awareness of our politics, pop culture, consumerism and the whole superhero genre of both the DCEU and MCU in one. It s genius!
I only ever retain 30% of what i heard from ya’lls videos after the fact. Though the fact that my brain hurts too, shows i’m learning.....Right? Lol

A private company associating the word thug with a black man(even with his consent ) is not very wise in today's day and age
Yes, that was a great show!
"The Boys: The Truth About Virtue Signaling"
Fixed that title for you.
Fairly sure thats an integral part of social justice. So I wouldn't think it needed fixing
no, not really. their title is better than yours, because it's more broad, but still true. you on the other hand, are being too specific
It's arguably more "clickbaity" in that it slightly misleads the potential audience, but I think it's worth it in this instance.
@@512TheWolf512 Eh... even if it is, they actually hardly discuss social justice itself... just the virtue signaling. A more specific title would be more accurate.

Life is an endless string of performances... putting on uh front for others at some point, in varying degrees, is as ingrained in us as breathing
